  • this is so fucked up

  • just wrong

  • this made me cry. though i would've cried more if it were people... but still.

  • okay... i really wanna be a marine biologist who studies sharks and i want to be able to do that when i get older. and i so want to do that. jjust because your a girl doesnt mean you cant really like sharks:)

  • Disclaimer: I am against illegal fishing(poaching) and Im against the wasteful act of illegal shark finning. That being said illegal shark finning does not occur in the United States. The US fisherman is the most highly regulated in the world and should not be thrown under the bus by being included with the shit that is shown in these videos.

  • this is so sad. all through this process, the sharks are still alive, from when they're fins are cut of, til they're thrown back into the water. since they can't swim, they sink to the bottom of the ocean and either bleed to death or are eaten alive. this has to stop, before they're all gone.

  • SatANIST PEOPLE IN THIS WORLD:::::what you expeczt? they are killing people everyday so who cares about sharkes? cmon wkae up people ...this is Devils world...

  • Shark Fin Soup IS...China's national dish....China's shame.

  • We have let the coloured genie out the bottle and it’s gobbling up space and all the earth’s resources.

A catastrophe lies ahead for mankind. A catastrophe George Lincoln Rockwell predicted in WHITE POWER!!!

  • Very Good Work for the Video!!!!

Is very Crueltly, No respect for the Ocean!!!!

  • No War But the Class War!!!! Natural Selection , Survival of the Fittest

  • No War But the Class War!!!!

  • fuck you all..STUPID FUCKING ASS HOLE PEOPLE..BUSTED!!!!!!!!!!

  • im not saying dont eat sharks, but i think you could at least kill it before you cut off its fins and not place it back in the ocean to bleed and drown to death while the saltwater burns the crap outta the exposed skin

  • HERE IS SOMETHING EXCITING IN MY COUNTRY !! ONE SMALL PLACE IN CANADA

Brantford, Ont., population of roughly 90,000, is putting itself on the map as the first Canadian jurisdiction to ban shark fin.

In a city council meeting Monday night, Brantford councillors voted unanimously in favour of prohibiting the possession, sale and consumption of the Chinese delicacy, aiming to set an example for the rest of the country.

  • Con't last post. As much as man ruins and decimates our earth ..it is also man who can stop this and work to save this destruction. This is my voice from Edmonton Alberta Canada...a place that is far far away from an ocean and from sharks but none the less a voice... a voice for sharks

  • For people to think that finning has no effect on our oceans eco-systems...well it's just plain ignorant. The only way to stop this is by spreading the word..letting people know what restaurants are selling shark fin...use your voice Let your government know. Let people know what ccountries are doing such as Costa Rica...The black market on finning is a billion dollar industry...spread the word.

  • I think killing sharks to eat them is ok but it`s not ok if you drop them back into the water!!

  • I remember going diving in the great barrier reef, and I came across a reef shark that had been finned, and this poor animal couldn't swim at all, and it wasn't even struggling, it was just giving up. I held that dying creature's head in my arms as it tried to breath, it kept looking up at me, and I was literally in tears. When it finally died, I returned home a man of shark conservation. It sickens me to imagine that over 100 million sharks die like this every year.

  • All that death for a tasteless soup that has zero nutritional value. Look it up: Shark fin soup is tasteless and completely devoid of nutrients. What a bummer. When I see stuff like this I sincerely hope we wipe out our own species sooner than later.

  • i just want to drop kick all your faces!

  • I'm an asian and I hate shark finners. They should die.

  • sharks are my favourite animals and when I see this vid my heart will burst in pieces

  • A beautiful video, thankyou for sharing this and speading the word :)

  • And Number 2:

Sharks are Apex predators and control the Balance of the Oceans. Almost half the world relies on fish protein as part of their diet. Most fisheries are already overfished and in danger of collapse, each year there are less and less fish in the oceans. If sharks populations are destroyed like they are now, food chains will fall out of balance and collapse leaving even less fish for us. In a world with growing populations this is going to be a serious problem.

  • There are two main differences:

    1. Is it really necessary to fin them while they are alive and let them sink to the bottom of the ocean and die a slow death. Sharks make no noise so they cant scream, imagine if they could make a noise how they would scream as they were having the equivalent of their hand and legs sawn off while they are alive. Surely no one or anything has done anything so bad to deserve such torture?

  • Did u see Japanese fishing boat shoot to the international fishing patrol boat which has no gun equipped, when they were caught illegally slaughtering in artic whale protection area? The Animal Channel broadcasted this "whale War" about Japanese violation. Sad.

  • You see?? Its muslims who kills

  • @STFU123Fuck 1. That makes no sense 2. It is a delicacy, that doesn't mean only rich people can afford it. It just means its part of their culture. 3. It isn't fake on the street, if you think it is you're just ignorant. 4. I never said only chinese people eat it. 5. No shark: the ocean is dead. Take a 5th grade science class, even they know everything is interconnected. Plus, only 5 people die WORLDWIDE from shark attacks, vending machines kill more people. Wanna get rid of those too?

  • @STFU123Fuck 6. It's Caviar, learn to spell, which is sturgeon. Do some research, only some sturgeon are endangered, the species that aren't are the species used for Caviar. 7. Sharks are a vital important to the oceans as the top predator. All life on this planet relies on the oceans. If sharks go extinct, the whole oceans, and by extension, the world will be put off balance as the world we knowhas basically been built around the existence of sharks for the past 400 million years so yes it does

  • @STFU123Fuck 8. learn to type and spell correctly if you want to get a point across, and maybe get a little bit of a thing called an education.

    9. next time watch the video and do research before you comment on things you know absolutely nothing about

  • @STFU123Fuck - you're ignorant. read a book you dumb fuck.

  • @STFU123Fuck - you're ignorant. read a book you dumb fuck.

  • @STFU123Fuck 1) You are an IDIOT!!! 2) If you are Chinese, now Chinese people really scare me!!! 3) Did you went to the school?.

  • @STFU123Fuck ... Hey Fuck, if the Chinese didn't eat it, no finning would go on. Shark fin soup is a vanity to say 'look how posh I am....I want so much to show off' .

Chairman Moa was right to basically ban it.

  • @STFU123Fuck your a fucking dumbass, u dont even get the point...

  • Can't even finish fucking watching this video, it's sick! cruel

  • wasteful cruel bastards............weak as piss aussie government get fairdinkum for a change........ act instead of sitting on your hands..

  • ohh God...please be merciful on animals ...they can,t speak ..poor animals

  • if you youtubers watch the film sharkwater itll show you the truth about sharks and that shark finning is serious please stop this madness!

  • the racist comments make me as sad as this video and are part of the stupidty that blights mankind, the same as those who treat animals this way. please just delete their comments and report them to youtube. they distarct from this serious issue

  • Mate, stop saying "no racist comments", just delete them. Racist comments act directly agains the cause for sharks, but many trolls are doing them in purpose because they want to intentionally taint your attempts. No more warnings.... delete and report.

  • im the president of animal protection org. "" USA Earth Rebels"" .every1 remember ""95 % of all animal cruelty in the world is done by Asians or for Asians"",and that is the most important sentence to say out loud.

  • Poor sharks, they can't scream or do anything to express what they feel when their fins get cut off and people take advantage of that. We kill millions of sharks every year but if a shark attacks a human being (which does not happen very often and most of the times it's not even a deadly attack) it should be killed immediately. What about these people, shouldn't they be punished for killing such beautiful creatures in such a horrible way...?

  • At this rate there won't be any sharks left what a selfish thing to do just for a bowl of soup.

  • The mindless creatures who have no right being in the human race, will pay for what they have done sooner or later. Life has a way of giving back to you what you deal out. Sit back and wait for the reeper LOLLOLLOLLOL you deserve all you get!!!!!!

  • I've seen the movie Jaws and Steven Spielberg understands that sharks are vicious man eaters. This is payback.

  • Sharks are very important to the ecosystem of the oceans. Without them the filterfeeders and plankton eaters will become rampant. This will dramatically decrease the worlds ocean's plankton which supplies the Earth with 1/3 of it's overall oxygen. We are going to be responsible for our own demise.

  • Any racist comment just take attention away from the issue here. The extent of the decline in shark numbers is obscene and will only change If countries like China, an costa rica allow limits to certain species of sharks and numbers. An independent organisation must be introduced soon as I feel the goverment/s have done to little to late. Few people understand that many sharks require 20+ years to be sexually mature enough to produce other sharks. How many will be left in another 20?

  • @thewatchman2009 i completely agree about an independent organization. The only organization I know have that has attempted to address this issue is Sea Shepherd, however I don't think it is their focus.

  • @thewatchman2009 Have you ever heard of a spiny dogfish? The spiny dogfish were over protected ten years ago and since then have become so abundant as to destroy the rebuilding of many other commercially viable species such as cod, haddock, lobster and a myriad of other species. Today if you put out 250 hooks for cod you catch 250 spiny dogfish. Finally the NMFS raised the limit to 3000lbs of dogfish a day which can be caught within two hours.

  • @Erinsprideseafood These dogfish(sharks) are fully utilized as shark fin soup in china, scherllocken in Germany and fish and chips in the UK. The dogfish are sustainably caught with little bycatch and strictly regulated by the NMFS yet you look to hurt law abiding fishermen by banning soup? Many of the photos being spread around of 100s of shark fins are actually dogfish fins. These photos are used to shock the public. You people need to educate yourselves and not buy into the lies.

  • @Erinsprideseafood You bring up some good points regarding S. acanthias and overpopulation of this particular species. However, you are only talking about one species under regulation by one country and is not a great example for your defense. You need to realize that the real issues are much larger. Fisherman in Costa Rica or China will take any species; silky's, dusky's, hammerheads, and they do not care. You are not the only fisherman out there and not everyone fishes the way we do here.

  • @squalus18 Exactly why you need to seperate law abiding commercial fishermen from Pirates. 99% of you tube vids throw all fishermen under the same bus. The mostly misinformed enviros are horrified to watch me unload a ton of spiny dogfish from my boat and think I am personally wiping out the shark population. We are not putting a dent in the dogfish population nor are we wiping out an endangered species...yet we are treated as greedy criminals.

  • @Erinsprideseafood What you do though does not fall under the category of "finning." You are utilizing an entire fish and using the meat itself for food in a sustainable fashion. And that is where both the public, scientific community, and you need to do a better job of communicating. But I think that when hopefully shark finning does become banned, and shark bycatch issues are reduced significantly; People only have the dogfish to look at, and they will understand the management implications.

  • The wasting of the shark meat disgusts me as does the absence of forethought... its evident that fish populations cannot sustain this harvest, yet we continue.

  • @Smartass11111 Sorry for spam, accidentally double clicked post. Don't mean to cause problems, just want this to end.

  • Comment removed

  • What they are doing to sharks is Cutting off there limbs and throwing them in the water to drown.... We can do that to the shark finners! Cut of there limbs and throw them in the water!

  • No Racism but all these people on these videos are Sickos! I hope they all die in a hole!

  • Dear God, that was horrible.

Screw wolf-lovers, this is much worse.

  • Not for the first time I 'm a shamed to be human, 'cause this is not human at all! Mankind destroy's it's own earth with everything on it. It is so sad, I always cry when I see this! So cruel! :'(

  • 1:42 should of threw him in tbh

  • LET THE SHARKS GROW UP AND MAKE THIS ILLEGAL!

    SAVE THEM!

  • This happens all over the world and then what happens when when there gone? It'll be like the wolfs, 70 yrs till they released the wolfs beck into the parks. This stuff needs to be on commercials, not no Enzyte shit and hydroxycut. People need to kno whats going on in the world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This happens all over the world and then what happens when when there gone? It'll be like the wolfs, 70 yrs till they released the wolfs beck into the parks.

  • mutha fuck sorry but i hate fucking zip heads gooks chinks pieces of shit whatever you want to call them wut ever the fuck they r philipino or asian wutever they r they a dousche bags with tiny dicks so the kill helpless sharks

  • @cprproductions123 no racism. its completely innacurate, its not just people in Asia, its all over the world. Don't blame one race

  • @cprproductions123

I agree with Smartass11111.. No racism. Please. I'm Asian and yet I don't like what I'm seeing in this video. Why don't you just share this video to your friends instead of making rude comments.

  • Horrible. These are beautiful living souls. We have to stop this!

  • "Sharkwaters" is a MUST SEE movie. Bravo Rob Stewart for making this movie and taking the risks to do the same. Finning is illegal in some countries but enforcement is obviously non existent due to payoffs and threats. After all who would want to do battle with the Asian Mafias.

  • the kids were laughing ); i love sharks i sharkboy

  • China is going to become the next "world power" in the world...oh boy.....what is this planet going to be with the chinese in the front line of everything......Asia is just a bad place all together.

  • im ganna probably buy a very big fish tank and keep 1 or 2 baby sharks so atleast they wont be completely extinct just incase if they do ever get that close to dying out

  • what sick people could do that? and that kid was laughing HORRIBLE! :(

  • @mitcherater i think he was crying

  • I'd like to cut of the arms of the guys @ 1:33 und throw them into the ocean

  • was soll man da noch sagen bei solch traurigen Bildern ........die Menschen sind grausam

there's nothingto say by seeing such sad pictures .........humans are really brutal

  • Poor little dudes, I lost it at 1:58 when shark blinks. Its soo sad to think thatmy grand kids will only be able to see these beautys in some mueseum:( open your eyes people, we are 64,492 + all the other people watching, can't we stop this? Hang lose brother people,===> Encinitas, san diego, california , USA (I'm two blocks from oceanside pier)

  • i cried while i saw this video... its a shame to be human.. thats so disgusting.

  • @charlieiwakiri maybe you should watch the whole video before you comment. If you do you will see how little attacks there are world wide compared to the hundreds of millions of people who enter the water. A more accurate statement is every time a shark loses it's fins, it dies leaving the ocean with one less shark to keep the ecosystem in balance.

  • @charlieiwakiri when God created man...the Angels declared war...

  • how about doing that thing to them killers?

cutting their hands, that will be the cost in return of doing this inhuman deeds!!!

  • this is just sad...this wont stop until theyre all gone... but guys u know this is being done all over the world right??? stop being racist and look at your own country first before you say stupid stuff in this thread im pretty sure there are at least a couple of species per country that is being treated with cruelty. like turtles, sharks, lions, tigers, whales. open your eyes people and stop being ignorant...we humans are the main reason while all this is happening...

    DON'T YOU DARE FORGET THAT!

  • @kmchale12 It is true, it happens all over the world. Asia is the main market, however that isn't where most of the finning happens. It is very common in places in South America, especially in places like the galapagos which are known for their sharks. Finally someone who gets it

  • @Smartass11111 thx, i killed it tho i was so pissed i messed up the last sentence it tends to happen when there's tons of things going through my mind...

  • Comment removed

  • @kmchale12 watch the movie: shark wather.

  • fuckin chinese ... i kno u said no racist comments but cmon . god i hate chinese people and yes its becos of the MANY shitty things they do as a whole. i kno that "a few bad apples" cant account for every chinese but there are soooo many of them they dont even have room in their own fuckn country . the goods they export are toxic (!!) , they eat and some of the most bizarre rituals (shark fins, bird nest soup, the mythic monkey brains). theyre like a goddam plague that just keeps growing

  • @jogu78 When I said no racist comments i meant no racist comments. They are not a plague they are people. And it's not only Asian countries that are doing this. It happens all over the world all the time. The main market for it is in Asia, but i've seen it on the menu in many places in the U.S.

  • @jogu78 The fact that you recognize your comments as racist should say something about how you think and how you know you should think. Race is not a real thing. People came up with it to hate large groups of people and to maintain hegemonic power structures. Your "hate" as you call it, isn't real.

  • is shark meat not profitable? why not just keep the entire shark and eat the meat instead of cutting off his fin, and leaving him to die in the ocean? This seems very wasteful.

  • @musicofthesoul85 selling shark meat is not profitable for fishermen or fisheries. With all the costs needed to get it on the market, they end up losing money. Plus, there is a good chance that because of pollution the meat would have harmful amounts of mercury in it. That is why they only cut off the fins.

  • pussies...all of em. put em in the water with some sharks

  • How can you do this with a smile on your face thats disgusting.

  • Leave the sharks alone, they are smarter than humans.

  • stop buying chinese goods... i don't buy NOTHING chinese

the chinese have love for only one thing.... money

everything else can go to extinction as far as they are concerned.

  • This is just awful! It's the Asian culture that's going to clean out our Oceans! From the large Tuna to our Sharks after they deplete our oceans of them they will find something else! Makes me sick that they actually believe that Shark fin soup is worth the death of all these wonderful creatures!

  • to all the people who support this insane crime, i will find you and cew on your face. They only "attack" us out of mistakes. eevery one makes mistakes. If you can make mistakes, and not die 4 it, then they should have the same writes. BIG BROWN POOP IN YOUR SHORTS!!!!!

  • WHY DESTROY SOMETHING SO BEAUTIFUL! This video made me angry and sad!

  • Wow! This is terribly sad. Almost bad enough to make you stop eating meat...

  • I think THATs ↑ the wrong way..They think: Its only an animal. it cant feel.

  • You say it still happens in the U.S. PROVE IT. You make these bold statements but you don't have any proof. Therefore you assuming it is happening here. Your exaggerating proved one point. You don't know what your talking about. Still waiting on the names of those books and articles. Or were you exaggerating then too? It's so hard to tell with your sarcasm.

  • @crabmanfl It happens in the U.S., no matter what you think. I can't give you names because I've read these accounts over the years, i'm sorry i don't keep a record of everything I read. And if our conservation boards are filled with ignorant people like you, we're screwed because obviously you are not concerned with protecting these animals, you just seem to want to give that impression. Open your eyes, people DO break the law and there IS a market for this stuff.

  • @Smartass11111 I It doesn't happen here. You have had a couple days to prove it and you couldn't. As for our conservation boards, there are people from the Ocean Conservancy, Duke University Marine lab, Maryland DNR, Georgia DNR, NOAA, CCA, Mote Marine Laboratory, Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center, and the Humane Society of America, and fisherman from many states along the east coast. If you would like there names and numbers I would be glad to e-mail them to you.T.B.C.

  • @crabmanfl Please don't belittle a group trying to find a way for fisherman and conservationists to make fishing safer for these animals. I'm doing something to make a difference. What are you doing? As for ignorant. I've never called you a name, we may have a difference of opinion but I have not stuped to that level. Obviously people break the law, but commercial fisherman have more to loose then the recreational fisherman. We can't make money if were in court.

  • @crabmanfl I got to know, If you have read these articles over the years and your 21 years old, how far back do they go? It should be easy to dig up ONE. Just ONE. You can't even do that. You make bold statements with no proof, therefore you are not a reliable source. Please go to a NMFS meeting and learn something. Like the truth.

  • @crabmanfl You are being ignorant if you actually believe absolutely no one in the country ever shark fins and sells fins, whether they are recreational fisherman or commercial fisherman. And arguing that it doesn't happen in the U.S. is pointless and defeats the whole purpose of the video I made. The point of the video is to get people to help save sharks and spread the word. It doesn't matter if it happens a lot in the U.S. or not, it happens ALL THE TIME in many other places in the world.

  • @crabmanfl And ignorance does not mean stupidity, they are completely different things. And who cares if i'm not over 21? It's not like you're completely dumb until you reach 21. I'm still in high school, so what. It doesn't mean I don't know what I'm talking about and it doesn't mean i haven't researched this subject for years. I do know what I'm talking about and I've been researching this stuff for years. So yea, i'm not able to make a difference.

  • @Smartass11111 Your still in high school at 21. You should change your screen name from smartass to dumbass. You don't know sheep sh*t from apple butter about shark fishing. Do you even live near the coast? I bet you live in Idaho and have never seen a shark in the wild. I've tried to be respectfull up to this point and try to inform you that you had it wrong. Now the gloves come off if you want to continue this debate. I'm done with trying to inform you. Respectfully have a nice day

  • @crabmanfl Oh, alright, let's be immature here. I never said i was 21 asshole. I said i was in highschool. I said it doesn't matter if I'm NOT 21. And I do live on the coast. I got scuba certified when I was 15 using my own money, I bought gear using my own money, I've paid for over 30 dives using my own money. (not allowence money, money I EARNED from work). And I paid for a 3,000 dollar scuba diving and marine biology camp in the BVI for 3 weeks using my own money.

  • @Smartass11111 in your profile you say your 21, asshole. Or are you exaggerating again? You do not know alot on this subject, you make alot of bold statements on this subject that you cannot prove. By the way it's spelled allowance, get it right or you'll be 22 and still in highschool. I would bet my last $ Mommy sent you to summer camp, that job was taking out the kitchen trash. When you get older you will realize just how much you didn't know at what ever age you are now.

  • @crabmanfl it says 21 cause i made this account & this video 3 years ago which is under the age you have to be to make an account. My job was working at a movie theater, the only thing my mom did for camp was drive me to the airport and drive me home. Believe what you want.

  • @crabmanfl At least I'm not a middle aged guy who subbosably is on a conservation board who can't find anything better to do then browse youtube insulting people and acting like a 12 year old who's balls haven't dropped yet who just wants to feel tough.

  • @Smartass11111

    WHAT THE?

  • @crabmanfl I have seen a shark in the wild. I've also seen many, many different types of underwater ecosystems and I've seen how they work. I've done community service at the marine mammal center for a year, and I've also helped with research in the caribbean. I assure you, I'm not a 21 year old in high school. I'm a 17 year old in high school who's acomplished a lot for my age. I also know a lot about this particular subject.

  • @crabmanfl NO WHERE in my video does it say shark fishing happens all the time in the U.S. In fact, I don't even MENTION the U.S. at all. And if you think shark fishing does not happen anywhere else in the world just because it isn't a common occurence in the U.S., then you are sorely mistaken and just proving my point. You claim I haven't done anything to help the cause, well I made this video, i've done countless hours of community service, I've changed many people's opinions about sharks.

  • @crabmanfl Now, please, enlighten me, how much did you accomplish when you were 17? Just because I'm 17 doesn't mean i'm dumb, it doesn't mean i don't know what I'm talking about, and it definately does not mean I am not passionate and that I don't do what I can to help.

  • @crabmanfl Being on a committee for fisheries in the U.S is not stopping shark finning, it's not going to stop shark finning around the world. And back to you're original comment saying that I should do a video on the slaughter of cows or something, i'm not going to. Cows are not threatened, many sharks are. Sharks are also a keystone species, which means they are extremely vital to the survival of whole ecosystems. You could argue the survival of the oceans depends on the survival of sharks.

  • @crabmanfl sharks have been around for over 300 million years. Many species in the ocean have evolved around the existance of sharks. They are top predators, which means they control all the species below them on the food web. If sharks die out, there is a good chance the oceans will undergo massive chance. And as I'm sure you know, life on land is very dependent on the oceans then too. So if the oceans chance that much, so will life on land.

  • @crabmanfl We are in the middle of another mass extinction. The difference between this one and all the others is we caused it, it isn't nature. We've polluted, over fished, hunted species to extinction, and destroyed ecosystems all over the world. All I am trying to do is spread the word trying to save a vital species and one species I happen to be very passionate about. So in a way, I am trying to make a difference. If you want to make a video about cows go ahead, I don't care.

  • @crabmanfl But don't watch MY video and one of MY attempt to spread the word to save one species that a majority of the human race hates because of movies like JAWS. All I am trying to do is show people that sharks need our help and that sharks are not the mindless man eaters many people believe them to be. So please, stop trying to stop me. If you really are a conservationist, you're a terrible one, cause all you seem to want to do is prove me wrong, when all I am trying to do is help a species

  • By the way, What ,"Various books and articles" are you getting this info from? You say there have been tons of reports of people seeing this in the U.S.. I'm calling you out on this one. PROVE IT. Post a link to that source. It's been banned here for 10 years. As for people doing it for a little extra cash. No wholesale dealer would risk his license by buying from an unlicensed fisherman.

  • @crabmanfl I exadurated to prove a point. It still happens in the U.S., no matter what you think. There is always going to be people breaking the law. and in case you didn't know, which i'm sure you do since you are on two conservation boards, shark fins are popular not in the U.S. but in Asia. And there is always a way and always a buyer. But once again, because it isn't common in the U.S. doesn't mean it doesn't happen anywhere else. And it doesn't mean sharks are not in danger any more.

  • As for regulated on paper. NEWS FLASH. Shark fishing is now 100% observer coverage. This means we have to take an observer from NMFS to count every shark and identify the species. We also have to have a Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) on the boat at all times so the Feds. can see where we are at all times. This is monitored by satellite. If the Feds don't get a signal, we can't leave the dock. You saying there is little enforcement in fishing shows how much you don't know. Continued

  • @crabmanfl yes i'm sure every single commercial fisherman is exactly the same... and i'm sure the feds have every single person who is not a fisherman who shark fins for a little extra cash on the side. and i'm sure in every single country, the government takes the same measures as ours to protect wildlife... and i'm sure just because it is more controlled than i thought in the U.S. means that it doesn't happen anywhere else and there is no need to protect the not declining shark population.

  • @crabmanfl in case you didn't notice... that was sarcastic

  • I'm not generalizing off one place, I've been a commercial fisherman for many years. You said I needed to do some research and I'm just trying to inform you that I know what I'm talking about. Unlike you, I'm actually in the industry and I sit on two National Marine Fisheries conservation boards. I get my info. first hand not from, "various books and articles", you've read. Continued on next post.

  • As far as Great Whites I've lived here for almost 40 years and not one Great White has been landed here in that time. Yes they winter here with the Right Whales. The object of commercial fishing is to make money. You can't do that if your in court fighting charges. The risk is too high. By the way you did make a nice propaganda vid.

  • @crabmanfl so basically you are going to generalizing shark finning and shark hunter based on your experiences in one place in Florida... news flash, the world is a hell of a lot bigger than florida and the united states. Just because its not as big in the u.s. does not mean it doesn't happen elsewhere. In fact it happens in many countries, especially 3rd world countries that border and ocean.

  • I've actually done hands on reasearch on the subject, I worked on a commercial shark boat out of Mayport Fl. for two years. Reasearch the cost of a Directed Shark permit. About $8,000.00 to $10,000.00 U.S. Noone is willing to risk loosing it and the Feds. are at the dock more times than not. We also get paid for the bodies or, " plugs", and on small coastal sharks they are worth more than the fins. Now the regs. say all sharks must be landed in whole condition. Continued on next post.

  • This is so horrible...how would people feel if sharks chopped off our arms and legs and tossed us into the ocean? No wonder sharks are afraid of us.

  • There is waste in the processing of any animal for food. Only about 55% of a cow actually is consumed. Please make your next video about that. Getting info from seashepherd about shark fishing is like getting info from Phillip Morris about cigarettes.

  • @crabmanfl i didn't get my info from sea shepherd. I got my info from various books and articles i've read about the matter. the only reason sea shepherd is in this video is because they were involved in the movie that i used clips from. And i love eating meat, i eat it every day. sorry.

  • @Smartass11111 Your video is misleading, if you got your info from books and articles you would have noticed that shark finning is illegal in America. Also, shark fishing in the U.S. is one of the most regulated fisheries today. Large costal shark fishing may not even open this year. As for Great White sharks. They are a federally protected species. This means no take what so ever. You don't mention that. Get some info from NMFS, and post both sides.

  • @crabmanfl my video is not misleading. do some research. Just because shark finning is illegal doesn't mean it doesn't happen. and shark fishing might be one of the most regulated fisheries on paper, on that doesn't mean that is what actually happens. NEWS FLASH no everyone follows the law. In fact when it comes to fishing, there is very little enforcement of any laws or regulations. and the u.s. is no the only country in the world. (continued in next comment)

  • @crabmanfl many countries have made shark finning illegal, but very few enforce it, and the few who do have very little enforcement. if you do some research you will see there have been tons of reports of people IN THE US seeing shark finning from various parts of the country. And yea Great Whites are federally protected, but once again, there is very little enforcement. Just because something is illegal doesn't mean it's protected.

  • no respect for life.

  • This is so horrific... it bought tears to my eyes... I dive with these wonderful creatures and think shark finning is such a wasteful and cruel practice.

Well done Hawaii for banning shark fin products... Lets hope the other countries can follow suit. Humans are the worst animals on this planet...

  • this makes me cry. f those people who don't give a shit and who can watch this with no heart. you are ignorant and aren't seeing the facts. i cannot believe this is going on and has been. this seriously pisses me off.

  • ce ne sont que des gros enculés de leurs races c est une honte......

  • If you really want to save sharks, you have to EAT MORE SHARK!...Think about it. Except for the fins, sharks meat is not popular or expensive. If you really want to save a shark, you should eat as much shark meat as possible ( not the fins )..then demand for the meat would increase and the value too, then the fishermen would haul 50 whole sharks to port instead of 150 lousy fins. Save the sharks, eat more shark meat.

  • @soulcheck4all r u kidding me? the way to sav sharks is to stop f-ing killing them! its fucking nasty that anyone eats shark anywaz! hav u even tried shark? plz reply

  • @SuperCamarolover...nope, I am not kidding. What's so nasty about eating shark. It's just another fish. If shark meat had more value, the fishermen would haul the whole sharks to port instead of just the fins. The reason they leave them to die is because hauling hundreds of fins is cheaper than taking the whole shark. And yes, I eat shark once or twice a month. I've eaten whale and horse too. Horse tastes better than I thought.

  • Ok longlining has nothing to do with this. Longlining is primarily used for swordfish/tuna/cod ect. Most longliners just cut the line and let sharks go, some tag them and set them free. The hooks are designed to rust away in a matter of just a few weeks. Sharks are what pisses a longlining crew off becuase they're making no money off them, alls that is happening to the shards is getting a free meal and a lip piercing for a couple weeks.

  • @g00dg0lly even if sharks aren't the target, they still get caught. long lines have no way of catching only the desired species, they catch tons of others including sharks and turtles and these extra species can die, keep in mind they r tied down to a certain radius on a very strong line. They panic when caught and can easily get entangled and strangled. and yes many do make money off sharks. did u not watch my video at ALL past maybe the first few seconds? shark fins sell for a lot of money.

  • @g00dg0lly why don't you watch the movie Sharkwater, before you talk about topics you don't know all the facts about

  • @g00dg0lly First of all why do we need to catch sail fish and secondly why do you need to use a 6 mile line to do it would it not make much more sense to hunt them individually

  • @g00dg0lly when a shark is caught on a long line it drowns, they need to swim to breath. So yes it does have alot of impact on sharks.

  • @g00dg0lly actually people working with the shark fin industry do use longlining to catch sharks. a shark fin can for for as much as $300 a piece and shark fin soup can go for $100 a bowl. long lines and actually reach up to 60 miles. imagine how many sharks are killed with only one line.

  • 3:28 WTF?

  • Fuck all u idiots living in china Vietnam Malaysia japan Singapore Korea and all other small eye people!!!!! Find something else to eat retards!!! Why not eat trout and cod like everyone else in the world and what's with them stupid kids at 30 seconds??I hope they get molested and the fishermen get their arms and legs cut off!! Every single fucking one of them and u know what? Il laugh when I see it.

  • Since that ass hole love the sharks so much why not feed the sharks with his own flesh.

  • @KVLai HOW BOUT YOU YOU SOB!!!!!!!

  • @KVLai and whats that supposed to mean? u stupid asshole what did the sharks ever do to deserve this? i dont understtand how this is still going on, even if it does make money, what happens when there are no more sharks? why am i even explaining this to u, ur a human as well as i), the most selfish, destructive, and careless species on the planet. what good do humans do for the planet, what ecnomic chain do they help or support?
