actually, I found out about this mystery myself. It turns out there is a switch just inside the door that when something pushes it (namely, the door), the light actually turns off. You can actually push this button to turn the light off yourself. (the fridge I found it in had it on the roof/ceiling of the fridge.) Ed actually stood there all night opening and closing the door, and might have actually found this switch. or not. If he was looking, he'd have found it.
