Yep, Blue Fins deffo looks bad. There seem to be a lot of novice divers - lots of hand and arm waving around. Sweet video, amazing visibility as well.
@richard23videos - True but they don't check certs and don't tell you that you are going to 130 until you get there. I think a lot of people are surprised and trust the guide. Still, the Dive Masters I had there were great. It was a wonderful trip.
@MrCoalie1 just "open water diver" .. I was unaware we were supposed to have a deep dive certificate before going deeper than 100 feet until well after the dive.
@jobeus You don't *have* to. Its just recommended. There are no laws out there stating what you can and cannot do. You just won't be able to hire gear or get air without a dive cert.
Very cool video. I can't wait until I'm certified and get to do this! I like this video especially because the quality is really good for a under water camera. what kind of camera were you using? Thanks!
Canon Powershot S80 w/ an underwater casing. I think there's better ones these days, but it was awesome for the time. Unfortunately I lost the camera and am stuck with only the case. =\
My other memory of the Blue Hole was how cold it got so fast on the descent and how it suddenly felt like a sauna once we ascended above a certain depth on the way up. I also did not have a lot of experience at beginning of the trip and was overweighted, but by the end of the trip I had gone from 18 pounds to 12 pounds.
I dove the Blue Hole this past August. Was on the Sundancer II, a liveaboard. I don't recall seeing fish down that deep in the hole. Saw a couple on the way up though. For me, the worse part was our first safety stop, 5 minutes. It felt like an eternity to me.
It really annoys me the way diving tourists sign up for 30m+ wreck dives etc. when they are clearly not able/experienced enough to do them, and then expect the dive master to guide them through it when they screw up and start panicking. If you know your not experienced to do it and look after yourself, don't do it.
i only got 4 dives in and went reef diving but im only 14 so that explains it lol we werent able to do the blue hole because of the little time we spent there *Sad face* hope to see it again!
I dove this last year at age 15 with my parents. I only had 20 dives logged and I did it no problem. We dove with Amigos dive shop in San Pedro and hit a max depth of 140 ft. I didn't think there was anything challenging about the dive. There is NO current. I didn't even need a wet suit, i just went in my trunks. This is a great dive and i would recomend it to anyone. Breath taking scenery
Decent dive, we stayed out on the reef and got there long before the punters turned up from the mainland.
Max depth was about 35 metres, you can quickly drop that deep because the visibilty was decent and the natural architecture so massive!
Unfortunately, we surfaced to more than friendly Bull Sharks who were circling us because the fuckwits who had turned up chummed the water. Me and my dad surfaced back-to-back as a result.

Technical diving is
deep dives (more than 90 ft cause narcosis is likely to get you in this depth at least),
another breathable gas mix other than compressed air (Nitrox, Heliox, Trimix),
covered environments (caves, wrecks/sunken boats/ under ice...) in all their levels,
special equipment (double tanks, side mount, dry-suits, rebreathers, etc.)
And then, there's the operational part of diving (mechanics, filling tanks, give service to different equimpent)
deutschely 1 year ago
Hi!
Well... defenitely a Deep dive is techical diving.
There are recreational diving and technical diving.
Recreational is Open Water 3 levels which include in order:
sea up to 18 mts or 59 (60 is ok) ft if you are advanced, and if you are strating its no more than 12 mts - 40 ft
lakes (altitude diving),
and nocturn dives in both sea and lake.

EVERYONE is narced at 100ft. Some handle it better than others. By furiously kicking and being negative in buoyancy this diver is showing that he/she may be too narced to realize that they need to add air to the bc. Blue Fins may have made it back to the surface, but endangered themselves, the dive masters, and the other divers in the group in the process.

"Not her fault". True, to a certain degree. This is what is known as a "trust me dive". New divers don't know what they don't know and blindly trust the dive master to keep them safe but not taking responsibility for their own dive plans. This is an advanced dive and should NOT be attempted by newly certified or out-of-practiced divers. The dive ops are negligent for not only allowing it, but encouraging it. It's all about the money.

A lack of buoyancy control is what happens when the dive ops take unqualified divers 140ft and expect them to dive the plan safely.
