If I didn't know better, I would think I was about 16, sitting up in the middle of a hot summer night with headphones on to this album while I sketched. I wore that vinyl out but thank God for CD's and even better-ipods!! I can take his music AND videos from here wherever I go and I love it just as much as did back in the early -mid 70's. I've never lost touch with that part of my music. I'll steal a line from the movie August Rush "You never give up on your music, kid". So very true!!
The instrumental of this was used as the theme/backing music to the Billboard American Hot 100 show with Mike Baker on Beacon Radio in Wolverhampton (UK) in the late 1970s.
I always wondered what this music was, now I know.
Annsara - for 2 decades Diamond got stuck in MOR Hell - with poorly co-written songs and too much production (too many cheesy keyboards and strings). Following the success of YDBMF with Streisand, Sony wanted Diamond to be another Barry Manilow when in truth Diamond was always more Springsteen than Manilow. You only have to see what Neil does when he has a guitar to prove that. Only when Rick Rubin became head of Sony did Diamond's musical direction change positively.
....Oh, this blesses my heart....*****+ he still has it....see him Oct 9 OKC...wish he was seeing me....love this precious manchild...great post, one of my favs
The "Hot August Night" arrangement of this song, complete with the long introduction, was used in a Bob Fosse Broadway revue called "Dancin'". Later, it was used in the revue based on Fosse's career called "Fosse".
THANK THANK THANK YOU!!! I will forever be grateful...great clip, excellant "work" (: This is the ONE song I am looking forward to seeing when Neil comes to my city...I can live it over and over (:

Well the truth is it's his guitar driven songs that I relate to and love best, so lets hope he never puts it down again.

For the first time in 2 decades Neil Diamond picks up his guitar and sticks it to the critics. Good for him (but shame about the last 20 years!)
