I discovered Ustad Ali Akbar Khan when I read an interview with another of my musical heroes, Julian Bream, who described him as the finest musician he'd ever had the pleasure of playing with.

I always felt Khan Shaheb was unique and incomparable. I haven't heard Marwa on sarod before. Khan Shaheb played it superbly.

We could say the legend at its best.

We were extremely fortunate to have him as one of our honoured Patrons of Surdhwani. He will always be in our hearts.

Julian Bream said: "Ustad Ali Akbar Khan was something else." I really felt proud of our Khan Shaheb, who was our national treasure.
