You are distorting my words. You're that guy. It's a beautiful song and if you're so right you would be doing more than just preaching to people who already love the Lord. Go after the ones that don't know what's up. You're turning people off by your zealistic attitude and misguided interpretations of their words. Do not respond to me. I know what's right and wrong.
For anyone who may be searching for a biblical understanding of the gospel and salvation, I would highly recommend checking out the scribd website that is listed on my channel.
I normally don't comment, and I am not a Bible scholar or theologian, but I must offer my understanding, and pray it may help someone else to accept in faith the words of our Savior at the end of His Passion. At the moment that He took on the sin of the world, perhaps not only did He voluntarily offer up His life, but the part of Him that was Divine, since God, according to scripture can't bear sin & to complete His work, He also took on the doubt that we all, as humans, have felt.
Eli Eli lama sabachthani? (My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?) - [Matthew 27:46 and Mark 15:34]
This was spoken by Jesus as he died on the cross. THIS is your messiah? Your "savior" obviously did not understand WHY he was dying, otherwise why else would he ask his father why he abandoned him as he died on the crucifix? How can you say Jesus purposely died for your sins when you he did not even understand the purpose of his death since he didn't understand why he was dying?
Trust me, I have read Psalms 22 many times. But that still doesn't change the fact that he asked WHY he was being left to die. That meant he WANTED AN ANSWER. That proves he did not know what his purpose was and WHY God did not save him. It doesn't matter that what he said was a "prediction." It doesn't change the fact that it was said. Why would Jesus, if he knew the reason he was dying, ask that question? Just to "reference" Psalms even though he already knew why? That doesn't make any sense!
He was taking on the sins of the world. In doing so, he cried out in the same fashion that King David (author of Psalms) did.
How many people do you know of now who cry out the same way as King David?
Jesus was referring to the prophecy (which is an extremely powerful prophecy) and at the same time taking on the burden of every sinner that was, is, and is to come.
The apostles knew what it meant. Otherwise, they would have bailed on Jesus just as you have done.
@xS1C His father looked away when he died on the cross. As any loving father would. He made the ultimate sacrifice for us. We are sinners and he let his son be born to endure the agony of death, to defeat it, so that we may be able to go to heaven and have the eternal life he promised us in John 3:16.
@taylorprofico Another display of Christianity stifling rational thinking. You just said that any loving father would let their son be murdered on a cross. I guess that would mean if a father saved his son from being killed it would show he didn't love him? Your thinking is very backward. It is frightening, really.
@xS1C uuummmm... sorry but you are completely wrong my friend. At the moment He said "Eloi, eloi, llama sabacthani?!" was when the entirety of sin fell upon Him and soon after was put to death by His death. The cry we see is not the cry from the Son of God but from sinners, at that second, Christ and God were seperated for the first time in eternity because of the sin. Jesus totally knew why He died, your face in the mirror. That's why He came and He knew that very well... ^_^
Christ is perfect, but he is also human, feeling human emotions. In Luke 22:42-44 Jesus says, 42 “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.
Jesus had feelings, but he didn't have doubt. In order for Jesus to be the perfect sacrifice God he had to be separated from God
@xS1C actually Jesus knew EXACTLY what he was saying. The scripture you quote, Christ's words, were a quotation from the Tanakh (the Old Testament to Christians). Every word He spoke on the Cross (indeed everything about the Passion Narratives) was said/done to fulfill the Law and the Prophets of Hebrew History. The reference you made is Jesus quoting Psalm 22:2. This is PRAYER at its best and is our example to pray - even in the face of death. God Bless.
BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE, God does not hear the voice of the unbeliever. BE SURE YOU ARE THE SON OF GOD. felling it does not make you. You need to know for sure, WE ONLY DIE ONCE. It's heaven OR HELL
SINNERS PRAYER:
Dear Jesus, I know I'm a sinner. I know my sins condemn me to Hell.
Please forgive me of my sins. I accept you right now as my savior to take me to Heaven when I die. THANK YOU, for saving me. AMEN
Glory to the one who is, who was, and is yet to be. He is the Alpha and The Omega. Always was and Shall Remain Forever. May those who now refuse His out stretched hand...realize in time......that He is the Way, The Truth, and the Life.
the more i learn to daily die to myself which is what picking up ones cross daily
and following Him is really all about, its even more than its not about me, its all about Him. its realizing that the last thing ANYTHING in life is about is me. mercy mes music is not just about salvation as an escape hatch. they vividly describe the living God who has dramatically transformed my thoughts and life. john 14;6 is just as true today as 2000 years ago. Saw em' for the first time ever on Sunday, I admit they are not my favorite Christian band but they have made believers of me after seeing them live. These guys are the real deal. Not only can they write tremendously touching songs, but they truly have a heart for God. I Can Only Imagine sounded heavenly as it reverberated throughout Coors Field. I hope everyone in Denver heard that!
Thank G-d Ever Creative One for blessing these musicians with the creative energy and the right words, the joyful sound that sets free the captive soul.
Bless the hearers with knowing in their thinking hearts. Touch your heart and tell yourself: Jesus Reigns.

Read Psalms 22. Jesus is quoting the Psalm that predicted His crucifixion.
This is a common question for people who don't understand but it is very easy to remedy.
Psalms 22:1 "My God my God why hast thou forsaken me? Why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring?
Skipping ahead; 22:16 For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have enclosed me: THEY PIERCED MY HANDS AND FEET.

He was quoting Psalms 22. I used to wonder this myself until I realized that a lot of Psalms was foretelling the coming of the messiah.
