  • I like his quack!!!!!

  • I love Danny Kaye. He always made me smile.

  • @Conoraus NOOOO!!!!!

  • I use to watch this movie all the time. Love it. Thanks for posting

  • vladimir weiss is a good listener

  • swans are part of the duck family, its why the young swans are called ducklings, as for the story- regardless of who lost their hair, boy or girl. its a story of how a child can be made to accept what they are as long as they do not think they are alone in their dilemma. its called compassion and empathy. children want to feel part of something and when they feel different or made fun of because of something, it is their whole life. great story and hope all the nay sayers start to show kindness

  • @stroh013 Sorry just gotta say.. a baby Swan is called a Cygnet :)

  • @CloFlatt =that is the technical name, like we are homo-sapiens, but commonly called human beings. got it? lol baby swans are commonly refered to as ducklings...or chicks. just replying to ur correction of a simple explanation

  • 35 years ago I washed my daughters hair in gin and it worked.

  • Having your head shaved was generally the only remedy for lice infestation, so it was a major thing for all kids. This happened right up until maybe 30 years ago when better medicated shampoos came about. Everyone knew why you had to have it done, so you must be dirty.

  • How the Fuck does a Duckling turn inta a Swan?

  • @rottysteve You don't question these things!

  • love danny kaye what a star i miss the feeling films like this brought.

    magic.

  • I did a ballet show to this song. I was the Ugly duckling. :)

  • My heart has just melted, how soft am I???

  • I like the part where the kid sings.

  • Awww, so precious!!

  • i remember hearing this song at a puppet show of the ugly duckling at legoland when i was very little! <3

  • That was so sweet.

  • This film should be shared with all of the children in hospital.

  • i did the ugly duckling song at my camp.

    i like this song.

  • I'll always love this part. :)

  • A deeply moving tale of hope and redemption. I saw this movie when I was 6 or 7 and my mother used to sing this song to me. Every child, most especially those most cruelly mocked or abused, deserves to hear and believe this message. What an extraordinary combination of talents Andersen, Kaye, and Loesser made, and what a gift they gave to the children of the world. It's up to the rest of us to keep giving in whatever way we can.

  • I love this part of the movie!!! :)

  • I love this song and the wonderful talents of Danny!

  • Frank Loesser is just one of the greatest songwriters in history and for all time. He'd have been 101 years old this month (June 2011). This score, like his Guys and Dolls, is just packed with famous numbers. The theme song is as witty as a children's song could be: Table to chair "I did not say I would marry you but I would like to sit down" is just brilliant. Inchworm and Anywhere I Wander are about as beautiful and haunting as any tunes can be. Loesser wrote Baby It's Cold Outside too. Superb

  • You know, I've always had the feeling that that scene would have been more poignant if the 'ugly duckling' had been a girl. I feel like girls have a bit of a close attachment to their hair, and would have been more upset over losing it.

  • @SuperKawaiKitty The ugly duckling is a 'boy' swan, told by Hans Christian Andersen. Not a girl! Do you think you know it better than the author himself? ;-)

  • @SuperKawaiKitty Not in those days. Even when I was small being bald was about the worst thing that could happen to a kid. Boy OR girl.

  • @SuperKawaiKitty Well, that's pretty steroetypical and ignorant. This is a CHILD, who was being taunted by his peers for being different... that is IT. Doesn't matter if it is a boy or a girl.

  • @SuperKawaiKitty I feel boys might be just as traumatized and humiliated. Boys' peers can be as unkind and merciless as girls'. For my son, shaving his hair off would be like being mutilated. Yes it grows back, but what a blow to his self-confidence if he didn't agree to being shaved. This little boy was adorable in the part. But we can disagree!

  • does anyone know what this film is really about

  • OGM IT'S AANG THE LAST AIR BENDER!!!

  • @MultiThecomputernerd Don't you mean "Ong"

  • thats awesome god i love this.. you are a great decendient

  • good joi on the sogn 329,363 selah

  • HC Andersen and Danny Kaye were both wonderful minds and creators of their time! Best ever anti-bullying story... <3

  • This scene often gets me bawling.

  • Oh My God! The bald kid! Its Aang! THE LAST AIRBENDER!

  • I have always had the impression that Danny Kaye must have been an amazingly good hearted, gentle, man.

  • Is that thing a girl or boy?

  • The best! :)

  • i dont know anyone who can make that good of a duck impression

  • Thiswas eminems favorite song when he was a baby lol

  • I loved Danny Kaye back in the day -- still do. He was a special caring talented man. Love this clip from the movie. Thanks --

  • i remember this from when i was a child... i sang it to my first child and plan to sing it to my next child.... it's a feel good song that i know this cruel swearword filled world could do with more of.....

  • Bring the duck with you

  • danny kaye the best ever i loved all the stuff he did amazing actor a credit to the film industry

  • Can't we all just get along

  • @Moysauce22 fuck you ur sad

  • @Moysauce22 you're the pathetic one. Really!!!??? What was this statement about? Were you joking, cause it was very distasteful. Grow up and get out of here!

  • @Moysauce22 I've seen some more of your antics on here and I can't believe you haven't been blocked!!! What gives you the right to act like this?! You're a very pathetic soul. Satan has a true hold on you! All these words only from him through you. Go somewhere else and stop bad mouthing some of the most wonderful works of art and life!!!

  • @kaptainkrunch123 Who are you to tell me that some figment of yours and every other pathetic Christian's imagination has "a true hold" on me? You are sick.

  • @kaptainkrunch123 Just let it go. He's a troll. He lives to instigate conflict. The more angry and frustrated you become with him, the more entertained he is.

  • @Moysauce22 He had ringworm man, not cancer. Did you even watch the video.

  • @xdarkfirex What an even bigger loser! Who gets ringworm? I hope he died from it...

  • @Moysauce22 You've actually managed to troll some of the people here.

  • @ZomBLord I'll take that as a compliment.

  • @Moysauce22 If you're a regular visitor of 4chan, it is.

  • @ZomBLord Trust me...I am.

  • THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HANS CHRISTIAN ANDERSEN!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @rubberduckDKify YES IT DOES IT'S FROM THE MOVIE HANS CHRISTIAN ANDERSON CLUELESS FAGGOT KNOW UR FACTS

  • @XlucyXmusicX just because it came from a movie doesent mean that its real LOSER

  • @rubberduckDKify All of this "reality" we experience around us is but a projection from the mind of God/Spirit/Creator---a "movie". And do we not create our own movies in our minds every moment of every day, which we then term "reality"? Einstein pointed out that if there were no "God", mankind would have need to invent one. Hope you're enjoying your movie!!

  • @campbellcenter That's a belief called solipsism. It's actually very sensible, considering that the only thing that is certain is "I think, therefore I am."

  • @rubberduckDKify Though the song is from the movie. Ugly Duckling the story is from Hans Christen Anderson look on wikipedia.

  • @xdarkfirex uhm i am not tottaly stupid :)

  • @XlucyXmusicX OMG HIS NAME IS SPELLED ANDERSEN!!! Okay, otherwise he would be Swedish... :-)

  • @AyanaLai wow ur slow...

  • @XlucyXmusicX No, not really...

  • @AyanaLai yeah took u 2 months

  • @XlucyXmusicX Look at the names Honey, the, now, three comments, i've uploaded are pretty close in time..

  • hc Andersen had a touch life and then this has nothing to do with him first of all he had a LONG nose and BLACK hair! there where no singing back then. this is just CRAP! o.k maybe he sings good but that all this SUCK! DENMARK4EVER!!!!!!!

  • Wonderful !!! :)

  • HE was so sweet.

  • One word for Danny Kaye:

    ENCHANTING!

He has a voice that touches the heart of every child young or old.

  • Comment removed

  • beautiful:)

  • 9 people have no musical taste!

  • so how funny how busta rhymes took this and put it in a song

  • Found a Bizarre fact out today, I've loved this movie particularly the ugly duckling song, well Danny Kaye died the day I was born... March 3, 1987. scarily coincidental

  • @lcplBozeman Same day and year???

  • well F**ck the swans! if you didnt like me then ill stay with the ugly ducks lol

  • the only thing NOT to like is that it is not longer. about another 30 sec at he begining when the constable is FROWNING at the cobbler.... GREAT MOVIE!

  • I was in "Hans Christian Anderesn" long before being cast as Mouseketeer Lonnie on the original "Mickey Mouse Club" (1955-59). I was cast as the Ugly Duckling but my mom and I did not want to shave my head, so the role went to Peter Votrian. I am related to Hans through my great, great grandfather, sea Captain Karl Eimer Andersen (3rd cousin) who emigrated to the U.S. Thus, I did a number of publicity shots with Danny. I am the very blond boy in a Turquoise Shirt and a HUGE Yellow tie (YUK!)

  • @lonnieburr Thank you for sharing this information, how very interesting for you, and for me what a wonderful gifted person was our well, your, Hans. I grew up with these stories, I am sure they contributed fo my love for phylosophy & the Spiritual. Once again, thank you. (I have put this on f/book a couple of times, this time I am sending it to a friend for his daughter to listen to, she is young.

  • @lonnieburr guess what i go to an acting school called pace and yesterday i was told i was playing the main part the ugly duckiling i was overjoyed we're doing a modern version of the ugly duckling in a school setting

  • @lonnieburr really? That's quite interesting. I would love to be affiliated with such a heartwarming movie. I'm afraid I don't know when this movie was first made, but since I've known it all my life, it has to be at least fifteen years old. How old were you when you were cast? I'm a bit of an aspiring actress, and I love this movie, so I'd like to know please. ^_^

  • @lonnieburr I can't tell you how jealous I am that you got to be a part of this wonderful film!

  • wow. i had this on an lp growing up.. i still remembered all the words.. yikes.

  • A real tear-jerker! Lovely.

  • @MultiGeraghty I have to disagree. This was a pathetic attempt at sympathy. Tears for how boring this was maybe...

  • @Moysauce22 You clearly have no heart. It was a sweet song, containing a "moral" and it was performed by a genius. GET OVER IT!!

  • This movie was always so touching. I loved the kindness and the warmness of Dany Kay and the music. I still love this film today.

  • when they picked danny kaye they picked the right person for this role bravo hollywood

  • @hookuspookus529 Yeah, Daniel Kaminsky was a multi-talented entertainer and nobody could have played the part so well!!

  • Wonderful memories!

  • Today is the National Storytelling Festival, so I am sharing one of my most favorite storytelling movie moments!

  • Today is the National Storytelling Festival, so I am sharing one of my most favorite storytelling movie moments!

  • Thanks for adding this!It was a joy to see again after all these years!

  • I think one pat on that kids behind was enough - but not for ol' grabby hands Andersen, he had to get greedy .. and just look at that smile on his face afterward.

All these women in town and this guy spends his time talking to kids all day.

Looks like the local police are members of the towns NAMBLA chapter as well.

  • Michael Jackson's favorite movie.

  • i dont no why people have to look for bad things in everything {pedophiles} sigh. when this film was made it was better times. I will always love danny kaye films they played a big part in my childhood.

  • I've been looking FOREVER for this song and I finally found it :)

  • wonderful, grew up listening to all of these and i love them :-) thank you for posting it

  • where would i find this movie?

  • @cksgirlforever I found my copy on Amazon. :) I love it.

  • Sang this to my daughter and then to grandson when they were small...an all time favorite with my family!...my father had the LP record and it was one of my favorites too. I am of course from Copenhagen originally.

  • I love this song..

  • I watched this after i was first paralized and it made me feel alot better!

  • I love Danny ... He was sooooooooo talented ... one of a kind ... RIP dear Danny

  • Ideed he was amazing so many talents in 1 person and funny as anyone could be

  • @FreewheelinPhrank Where in the movie is he shown as a pedophile?

  • Man this dude sure liked to hang with children allot ... wonder how many went missing in that town.

  • @FreewheelinPhrank dude you need to go get another hobby other than ruining amazing movies and stories with your nonsense comments. You know very well that this movie was made in a different time that was not worried about pedophiles raping little kids. This was made to entertain and give kids and adults something to smile about.

  • Definitely one of my favourite childhood movies of all time. I'm glad I was a kid when these movies were still re-run.

  • omg i have this on video

  • the bald guy...its..its.. THE AVATAR!!

  • @bubbly221 Hell yeah homie!

  • @bubbly221 No relation to Aang, really!

  • @bubbly221 But I see why you say so.

  • @Moysauce22 your a fucking arse hole you dick, your the one ruining the world

  • @swarism Yeah, okay dumb ass bitch. Get back in the kitchen and make me a sandwich.

  • @Moysauce22 lol really sandwitch xD

  • Where do you find the sheet music to these songs?

  • doesn't that poor man realise he's teaching a pointless lesson to the future of evil, lex luthor?

  • @Wishworks Very funny, wise guy. But no lesson is ever totally pointless.

  • Great entertainer. Don't have any like Danny anymore, unfortunately.

  • Not so ugly after all.

  • I have the record.

I still play it to this day and love it.

Bravo Danny Kaye for making the boy feel important, because he is.

Too many people pick on kids these days.

Everyone is important and have a god given talent that needs to be discovered and used.

  • @WillsPills56 Danny Kaye was a very special person who gave so mcuh of himself Such a pity there are not more Danny Kayes` around. I too have this record and Tubby the Tuba, and yes at my age I still enjoy listening to these old numbers. This is music and entertainment at its best

  • @steinwaygrande1 Good for you! I love and sing this stuff too.

  • he called the boy ugly! :(

  • @zinazina11 No, the boy felt ugly because of kids laughing at him and he told him a story about he was not such an ugly ducking to give him hope. We all need that sometimes.

  • i love him so much

  • Used to sing this to my children and do all the duck noises to make them laugh. Great song ! lol

  • I love how the little kid looks like he wants to either cry or punch him during the first half of the song, then his smile at the end was so bright and happy.

  • I love this movie, can never get tired of watching it

  • What a classic song

  • I love this movie

  • im not such an ugly duckling, you are!

  • just lovely

  • SO cute!

  • There's nothing wrong with the boy. He IS beautiful! Not he WILL be! He just doesn't know it. He's just bald. So what.

  • Happy 205th birthday Hans Christian Andersen :) !!! You are always in our hearts.

  • lyriiicsss

  • Danny Kaye was the best ! There'll never be another like him.

  • @MsBedwell Its sad to say there will never be any good actors and actresses like there use to be, same goes for musicians like Glenn Miller or Louis Armstrong. Danny Kaye is one of the best and we miss you dearly :(

  • @TankGun90 You are so right! I doubt most of the younger generations will fondly remember most of what passes for music these days as they get old. Oh, there are some good things and people out there but they are in small numbers.

  • @MsBedwell so true. I love him! Whenever I feel down or am sick, I watch his movies!

  • love the bassoon playing too

  • i was born a swan......now im 45....im an ugly duckling......hans help me!

  • I loved this song as a child and sang it to my own family. It took a while to believe that an ugly ducking can become a swan. Sometimes you have to believe before you can see. I loved Danny Kaye, especially in this movie.

  • @pris613---Indeed, they do! Thank you for taking the time to post a response.

  • onelilbirdie: you are most welcome. These are the memories that sadly sweeten in time. We are really lucky when such people come into our lives.

  • i have to giggle, this character reminds me so much of my old friend adam knechtel....always a word of encouragement for all and an attitude most infectious....rip ark

  • onelilbirdieL What a lovely compliment for your friend. He probably touched more people than he ever realized and such acts of kindness make the world a better place.

  • They don't make movies or movie stars like Danny Kaye anymore. What a loss to future generations!

  • my favorite song from this movie was Danny Kaye singing " Copenhagen". had the record when I was 15 and wore playing it. great movie

  • 4 of my favorite movies as a kid: "King Kong", "Hans Christian Andersen", "The Adventures of Robin Hood" and "Buck Privates".

  • the only one being stupid here is you.

  • I lost count of how many times I saw this film when it first came out! I stopped at 20!!

  • im doing this play this christmas!!!

  • there is no voice like that of Danny Kaye.

  • i love this movie. amazing music, amazing actors and amazing story!
