I went to Mount Angel Abbey on Retreat about five years ago. It was in the Spring and everything was moist and growing. Not familiar with the atmosphere, on the first night I did not sleep well. Wide awake at daybreak, I went outside for a walk. Grazing in the Monastery Courtyard were a group of relaxed deer, including a few wide-eyed fawns. I stopped and stared. Then I thought to myself: "what a gift from God this place is!"
Where did you find this recording? The only recordings of the monks there I can find are the the cd they released (which is more "High Chant" compared to the more Ambrosian style they tend to use) and what;s on their vocations dvd. Any help would be great.
Like what tender tales tell of the Pelican; Bathe me, Jesus Lord, in what Thy bosom ran--- Blood that but one drop of has the power to win All the world forgiveness of its world of sin. Jesus, whom I look at shrouded here below, I beseech Thee send me what I thirst for so, Some day to gaze on Thee face to face in light And be blest for ever with Thy glory's sight. Amen. (Translation by Gerard Manley Hopkins, S.J., 1844-1899)
yes this song is so very beautiful... every time i hear it i am reduced to tears and it makes my heart burst with love for God, and also it makes me love St Thomas, for only one who loved God so tenderly could have composed such a hymn; he is a brother and friend to us. Pray for us St. Thomas, that we may all love truth and despise falsehood.
Thank you for posting this! "Adoro Te Devote" is by far my favorite Eucharistic hymn. This is a beautiful video, and it's accompanied with such beautiful singing.
This is divine. It chills the soul and connects us, even for a short moment in time, to The Father's 'throne room'. Very uplifting and I love it very much. Lord have mercy on us.
Beautiful! Very beautiful! But they have sung only 4 out of 7 stanzas, skipping the 2nd, 4th and 6th. Gregorian chants are definitley the most beuautiful songs that ever existed. This chant is verry well preformed. (=

Godhead Here in Hiding (Adoro Te Devote) A Eucharistic Hymn by Saint Thomas Aquinas (ca. 1224-1274)
Godhead here in hiding, whom I do adore,
Masked by these bare shadows, shape and nothing more,
See, Lord, at Thy service low lies here a heart
Lost, all lost in wonder at the God Thou art.
psalm118verse24 1 year ago
Seeing, touching, tasting are in thee deceived;
How says trusty hearing? that shall be believed;
What God's Son has told me, take for truth I do;
Truth Himself speaks truly or there's nothing true.
On the cross Thy godhead made no sign to men,
Here Thy very manhood steals from human ken:
Both are my confession, both are my belief,
And I pray the prayer of the dying thief.
psalm118verse24 1 year ago
I am not like Thomas, wounds I cannot see,
But can plainly call Thee Lord and God as he;
This faith each day deeper be my holding of,
Daily make me harder hope and dearer love.
O Thou, our reminder of the Crucified,
Living Bread, the life of us for whom he died,
Lend this life to me, then: feed and feast my mind,
There be Thou the sweetness man was meant to find.
