  • I'm Malay and I'm so sick of people assuming we can't speak a word of English. Pfft.

  • Yo, same here. It depends who we're talking to. This accent comes naturally. Probably because we're influenced by TV programmes we watch? BTW, why do you know how to speak chinese >< lol and your chinese accent is kinda local!

  • Lol! It is funny to see you here. Why I don't see your "Ab...ail" in your video?

  • Uh reality check. No Chinese or Indian would ever talk to a Malay like that. They'll probably get lynched.

  • this is the uniqueness of Malaysia! we're very creative in creating new things especially language. i'm Malaysian, and I'm PROUD!

  • @ConfusedSponge not really....almost all the chinese in malaysia speak chinese malay accent like this.

  • @NJBZX So, he's Chinese? I thought he was originally from some other country.......

  • @ConfusedSponge yes, he's malaysian chinese. that's why he know how to speak malay with chinese accent. :)

  • @zahirtrio7 Actually, he's talking about the majority. If you're not one of them, he didn't mean you. I know you are a Malay and Malaysian. I am too but most of his points are the right ones. I am not protecting him but let's just ignore the insults and try to understand his points.

  • The Malay guy doesnt speaking malay ==

  • I am a Malay and I prefer to speak English with people of different race ever since I was in school, probably cuz I find it easier to engage in conversations with them as they seem more comfortable like that. Recently I went for a trip and it was upsetting that we seemed 'divided' into two groups. It's hard to keep everyone stick together when half of the group choose to speak chinese with each other while others dont even hav a clue what they're saying (even when we're dining at the same table)

  • DONKEY!!!

  • halo Singlish guy.. visit "Rankings of countries & territories by English proficiency - EF EPI" use google search.. do not aggravate the other country if your country (Singapore) has problems and the WORSE in English Language and your country is not listed in Rankings of countries & territories by English proficiency...... u all feel more shame because Indonesia is listed in ranking but not your country asshole dumbass..!!

  • No offense dude, ya sound more like a Singaporean than a Malaysian

  • I laughed so hard! So true about the 3 races. Though on my defence (I'm a Malay) Malays nowadays prefer to speak in English when talking to other races. Though like anyone else in Malaysia, we usually speak Manglish as in 0:38 with all the 'lah', 'meh', and 'ha' when not in formal occasion. Except for the elderly.

  • I do have American English slang. and I do worked at Hotel before as receptionist and also operator. My assistant Manager said, don't do slang. Don't fake ur language when answering a phone / greeting guest.. In my heart I said, Yayaya.. wateva.. aiyaa...

  • It's hard not to 'lalalalala' HAHAHAHA. Insanely true.

  • hey ... question ! I am a chinese kid in Malaysia , currently 14 (teen I suppose ... I not really sure about it lol) and I have a question ... no offence but are you a foreigner but officially local of MY ? just curious your face gv me a feel of difference ... I can feel it , since I kinda talk like Americans too ... you know ...

  • malay tongue is naturally can adapt other language. thats why when malay speak english, not so obvious manglish compare to chinese or indians. even arab people impressed with malay arabic speaking.

  • wow, you are a cool guy, man :)

  • Duhh, i was in class just now, im a new student there, my teacher was an Indian, and im Malay, At first i thought he's a nice guy and also profesional looking, he treated me nicely, and was happy that i could be-friend with him, but then in the English class he asked me some questions that is.. Awak tau apa 'Plane'? Government tau? Try eja, kalau nak pinjam kamus, ambik kat meja saya... And i was like... What the... im 16 btw, most of the student there are Indian and Chinese.. embarrassing..

  • lalalala LOL

  • Its hard to imitate the typical Malay English accent (unless you're Malay), that's why you couldn't do do it. The Indian accent was is a bit too India-ish. Plus its that not hard for Malaysians with good English to do an American accent and your American accent didn't sound completely original either. Stick with your 'standard' Malaysian accent.

  • not like that.... that "LAH" we just use between malaysian people like indian talk to malay, malay talk to chinese, but if we talk to foreign people that come visit malaysia.. we will change our english accent..

  • OMFG hilarious..........but where's the real native manglish accent?

  • I think your malay accents is fine.. Most west malaysian people can't speak the proper malay actually. They just add in 'i-think-i'm-cool' accent in their accent while speaking it which is very irritating. And I think, speaking in any accent of english is fine because that's proves where we come from, aye? But of course a better pronounciation & a proper english would be better (: cheers.

  • MAN, was that one really good American accent..... Just why is it so hard to pronounce the 'R' without rolling your tongue or making sound like some 'throaty r' in words like: WORD, HARD, WORK, FORWARD, FURTHER, FARTHER.....

    Fala serio........

  • hmm, some part of it is like offending malays,pe ni bro??

  • Comment removed

  • I feel for you man. I'm Malaysian/American/German. I get "You're faking your accent, you should sound Asian/German." ALL the time. The last time I visited Malaysia, it was still pretty much EXACTLY like this and somehow, I just slipped into it.

Though I've heard it's supposedly getting better, isn't it?

  • ur indian accent is bad

  • Hey, Im from malaysia, where do you live.

  • we always put "lah" when we talking even in english.. hahahaha ^^,)

  • @silentorange15 he is singaporean always use "lah".. :-)

  • lakiey t0k kdk 0wg gila~

  • Does it really matter if we dont have a proper English-like accent, or at least speak English in the way it should be?

Because even if you asked an English man to speak Malay the best he could, he would never be able speak it perfectly. Same goes to Malaysian.

  • That sounds Singaporean XD

  • haha, this made m laugh because i am having the EXACT same problem. i speak with my own accent, i don't have any malay, chinese or indian accent, and stuff like that. some people bash me for not showing my real identity and stuff. it sucks! the accent came naturally and i am lying if i just don't be myself. :)

  • hahaha...... nice one! im malaysian chinese, i dont speak good chinese or english either, but it really doesnt bother me. the point is, we speak becoz we want others to understand what we are thinking, and they are listening to what we are trying to deliver, thats it. well, say u are trying to communicate with a 4 y/o kid, using such perfect language is just too much coz kid only understand their languages. malaysian are flexible, trust me, we are perfect in any languages!

  • LMAO this is awesome dude! nice imitation of the chinese people and indian people!!

  • No offense but i think paku&belacan and ben bradshaw speak malay better than you. :)

  • of kos la like this meh , but yeah , thats keeping us close together u know

  • I agree with you unlike a lot of people here. Most Malaysians speak pretty crappy English. I mean come on, we study English for a minimum of 11 years, and yet, there are plenty of people who can't even speak with decent grammar. And people who claim that you're faking, does that even matter, speaking good English isn't about the accent, it's about the structure of your sentence. Saying "Later, I meet you at Mamak lah" just doesn't cut it.

  • the example of Indian speaking is actually from "INDIA" people u idiot..that is not how malaysian indian speaks English..dun try to judge other people cuz nobody is perfect u retard..here goes an example: even if trying to be perfect in "English", but u still look like shemale...

  • fuck u whatever ur mother name..what kind of group u belong too?PARIA or ? fuck ur self!! u look very fucking stupid...

  • Screw kamu lol

  • Its hard not to " lahlahlahlahlah " LOL

  • come on lah... even in UK,less than 5% speak standard english...what is defination of proper english...?? speaking like american means speaking proper english..?? we should be proud of our english accent, even my Englishman teacher said that.. english is wide..everybody will have their own accent of it..

  • bhahahahaha :D

you guys laa, so funny laa..

    haha

  • dude yuo sound so much like my cousin

  • I have been living in Thailand for so long, plus I speak Spanish, my Englissh accent is terlible.

  • it's hard not to lalalalalala. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

  • i think this guy is chinese

  • i'm a malaysian 'lah'

  • haha..u cant do malaysian accents at all man..ur indian accent is more like indian from india not the one from malaysia..and malay do have accents when they speak english..example dr mahathir..ur chinese accents also din work out..u shld stay with ur american accents..its not like we malaysian dun understand at all what you're tryin to say here..

  • hahaha Ben!! screw kamu balik!! Funny and disturbing video.

  • lol this is so cool

  • I think you were born in USA or Australia and not Malaysia. And probably one of your parents is mixed white. Am I right?

  • I think Chinese was almost spot on, but the rest, bleeeh.

  • Its hard to not, 'lalalalala' xD

  • Your chinese accent, out!

  • let me tell u now...

    ur neither here nor there..

  • I forgot to mention, you'll get a malay accent if you eat BELACAN... u want a natural chinese accent, take tofu and stuff into your ears... n then if you want indian accent naturally, wash your face every morning with curry or dal !

But I think the solution for you is Sambal Belacan up your ass !

  • U know what can get your crap American accent out ... ?

Go and eat BELACAN ! If it doesn't work, add chilli and stuff it up your ass.

  • I strongly agree with you as I'm in the same circumstance as you but shame on me as I tried to change the british slang into Malaysian english so that I can communicate better with my friends!! It's very hard as you know it's wrong but you just have to do it!

  • Dud3 I can sooo r3lat3 with u!!!!

  • LOL!

  • lol i do talk like that. xD

  • your accents are terrible but it drives a good message. when you go to the UK from malaysia, you will realize how non-stereotypical certain perception of accents are and the only way you don't have an accent is if you are mute.

  • MAN YOU'RE GOOD

  • i have indian and chinese frans....they dont sound like that.....u might have make it too stereotypical....:)

  • i agree with them..u do sound fake :P

still..ur english is better than most of them i think

  • lalalalala LOLOLOL

  • I have an American accent. But the way you figured it out was like you were toying around the accents of Malaysia.

  • Haha malaysian humour. But seriously speaking, I've never actually heard such intensely stereotypic accents from anyone in my town in sarawak. In fact, I remember it sounding a bit like yours. But isn't it mostly due to american/canadian tv influence?

  • the hell with it. the malays are blur? come on you cant say like that aint mate?

me dinnae ken what you're trying to say. you just sweating me plates of meat mate.

  • You missed the typical chinese and the cool wannabe chinese :P

  • It's funny how people will make fun or mock you on the way you speak english. The thing is there isn't a universal Malaysian accent. Why? coz we're a plural society(dont know if i'm using it right). The way you speak english(or any other language) depends on your background.

  • Most often(though i'm generalising which isnt good btw)Chinese speak like chinese, Malay like Malay, and Indian like Indian. And people who intermix more with other ethnic will surely be influence in some way. Just think it this way....semua orang cakap Bahasa Melayu sama ke? Tak kan? My nenek is orang asli and she speaks malay pun macam orang asli and my datuk is chinese and speaks in a chinese accent. My dad speaks in Malay accent and same goes for me. As long as people understand you.Its good

  • screw u! screw kamu! lol..i rather not to speak english infront of my frenz, u noe y? dey think im faking my accent! i'm malay, but my malay accent is sounds terrible bcoz my mispronunciation of some alphabet letter ..but in english, it sound soo gud, so dey think im faking it. SCREW 'em ALL!!

  • so what with the accent if the message (what you want to say) is conveyed.

  • Haha.it's very funny .You're very wise, videomaker.BravoI have been waiting to say to the Indians and Chineses in Malaysia who speak English ''Heei.what the the hell of English are u using! If you ain't really able to speak with real English(real pronunciation and accent like native speakers) tak payah cakap English laah!U tak payah berlagak lah!If an American talks to you in English, you tak akan faham sepatah haram pon!Because they use a lot of idioms and slang!Unless you have learned it a lot.

  • haha..so cool..this is not racist !

  • screw u!

  • lol. epicness. xD Made me laugh. >w<

You're defiintely not faking your "default accent", your Chinese accent had a few giveaways and your Malay was like Chinese-speaking-Malay type... Malay.... xD

can't say much for Indian accent. I don't hear it much but I loved it! xD

  • bhaahhaahah!!!

  • Your Chinese dude accent is horrible. XD

  • hhahaha..that's so freaking funny..im a malay n i dont talk like that..some peeps say that im these brats talking with an accent but im seriously not..they say i have american accent??lol..love the video so much..

  • Your Malay slang sounds like Chinese guy wanna talk malay... ha ha ha ha!!

  • lol ur chinese accent is crap

  • Punjabs! Lols.

  • Errrrr, your Indian accent sucks. You've been in Malaysia SO long and you still can't fake an Indian accent?

I feel sorry for the Indians who watched this.

  • lol..true dat..u so gud laahhhhhhhhhh..XD

  • FUNNY VIDEO...

    I'm Malaysian..

ya Malaysia will aslways add LAH,,LAH ,,,LAH AT BACK WORD..]

    THAT's us..

    good job man

  • @lukelyh89 u-huh, something like that....

  • screw kamu!! lol!

    what are you anyway?

you have the skin tone of a malay and the eyebrows of an indian.

btw your malay accent was quite bad.(sorry)

  • @TheJoshFernzGuy hahaha. i'm neither of that you mentioned :P it's quite interesting to see people try to figure out what i am.

don't worry bout the malay accent. i've been told! hahahaha!

  • yeah.. u sound much better in your natural accent... it seems like u tried very hard to pull out the chinese/indian/malay/manglish accents, and u barely succeed.

  • when malays speak english they do have accent but it's not as obvious as indian or chinese english accent. either that or we're so accustomed to hearing malay accent it's not noticeable anymore. i think malaysian malay (based on riau dialect) doesn't have stressed pronunciation of certain syllables so when they speak english the accent is not noticeable. a malay friend of mine from kelantan speaks english with thick kelantanese dialect.

  • hahaha... yeah i know many malaysians who speak like you. when i was young, i did thought they were faking it, but when everyone at their home talks like that, u cant blame them.

neway, the malay guy part, u really failed it. It totally sounds like a chinese speaking malay. haha. nice try.

  • accent accent fake it fake it sure sure ha ha. u dont need to emphasize evrything evrything.hahhaha

  • I know what you mean. Apparently I have an accent too. I know what you mean. It's sad. T_T

  • what is the point of this video?? I find it really annoying... :D especially the looping part... and why the MALAY in the video cant speak in English?? is he Mat Rempit or something?? sure look like a geek for a Mat Rempit...

  • hahahha i like the last part when ur friend denied it was his accent but he freaking sounded that way!!!!! lol good job!

  • u don't understand all of that and u stayed in Malaysia for so many years. u better pack u thing and move to usa.

  • pantat mak ko la babi

  • are you mix?? and you are right!! depending who are you talking to, i have alot of chinese frens who don't understand much english and i ended up speaking broken english with them so they can under stand me.

  • @mentoswatthehell haha. yeah i am mixed. i know what ya mean. at one point i used la alot cuz i stayed with friends who used it lots. :P

  • Don't care what the Malaysians think but to lain-lain like me, this is spot on.

  • You, Benedict, just became my top favourite among Malaysian youtubers. ROFL. I am from Malaysia too btw. Having a similar accent with ya! Hahahah

  • Everyone has an accent and it really depends on the society that surrounds you plus the media as well. I sound somewhat like you but with a stronger hint of an american accent. I think that's because I am from this small little town in Sarawak where hardly anyone speaks English except my family, so my accent came from all the american shows I watched as a kid. I am guessing its around the same for you.

  • Lol, dude, i know what u mean...

  • erm... why is he repeating everything? ... 3/5

  • skru kamu! LMAO!
