  • A beautiful song sung so eloquently by a true icon of this country. So sad to see Ireland has lost it's way and seems now to be a nation of consumers in an economy rather than a community. The nonsense fascination with celebrity/x factor will not be treasured by future generations.Luke Kelly and bands like the dubliners and bothy band will.

  • great luke and ronnie gone as well ,so god why did they all split up though dissapointing . bless.

  • 8 people are fucking idiots, you can see the passion that drove him to sing one last time for us, and that deserves to be appreciated even tho i hate to see him that way.

  • a beautiful song sang by the great Luke Kelly

  • Magnificent!

    What a performance?

Luke, I only really started to listen to you about 8 months ago.

I feel so fortunate to have recently found and appreciated your beautiful voice and unique interpretation of so many wonderful songs. I should have listened to my darling brother George all those years ago!

    It's never too late!

  • Unique, love listening to this song

  • The summation of his whole life in his voice this day. Who could not love him?

  • I can't believe that there is a dislike button on this song. without being intolerant, I can not understand how you can dislike this song?! This is just pure emotion and It always gives me so much!

  • @MetalMidgard Yes, I do agree. This was Luke's Swan Song. Who could dislike it?

  • It´s so sad. What a great man. RIP Luke.

  • You can just see the sadness in all their faces.... very moving.

  • I remember my father telling me how he met the Dubs in a Liverpool Hotel bar back in the early seventies. He enjoyed a late night drinking session with them. Hopefully my dad has 'crossed paths' with Luke again.

    RIP Luke.

  • Kelly did Luke ever do a version of craigie hill?

  • everytime i look at this video i get emotional such passion

  • Such a powerful and pleasant voice. What a legend!

  • Hon how how can this man always put me in good form whenever i hear him sing????

  • I don't know why but the tone for this song sounds sad. Beautiful song sung by a talented singer. May he Rest In Peace.

  • fantastic singer, May he R.I.P,

    he had talent to burn.

  • Good song. It is sad that Luke Kelly died so young.

  • His voice may have slightly changed but the passion and strength remains untouched. R.I.P. Luke, the greatest interpreter of songs

  • Top notch comment by rhwh668:-)

  • I love Luke Kelly so much, and watching this, you can see the pain in his eyes. He knows that he is dying, and that this is his last performance, but he still sang beautifully and heartfelt as always. God bless Luke Kelly and God bless Ireland!

  • god bless luke.our greatest export

  • Best singer of all time I would compare him to musicians worldwide

  • Is this not a scottish song?Luke does a good version .

  • @airigid it's either Scottish or English. But Luke had a Scottish grandma so he may have learned it from her.

  • its amazing! though his condition Luke sings with unchanged strength and voice! Beautiful!

  • At this time my alltime favourite.

But like to comment I like every member of The Dubliners. Who where in the past as the memebers at the moment. I went to them a week ago in Groningen (The Netherlands). Even how Barney sung with his soul. And his banjo playing of course.

For me all of them made and still make The Dubliners I've been in Dublin once. But when I hear The Dubliners it reminds me that a part of me is still in Dublin and Ireland. Probebly it's my heart.

  • luke kelly was nearly beat at this stage by a brain tumour.......but he still sang, and sang well. Singing was his way......and no more should be said.

  • @tony10696861 to start with it was the Ronnie drew group, then Ronnie changed it to the dubliners that was in 1962 , Luke didn't join till 1965 .

All said Luke was amazing , but it was Ronnies group .

As with the Beatles you can't just pick one out , a group is a group !

  • @63frankie Well you're the one who called it "Ronnies band". I agree that you can't pick one out of a group, all I said was that Luke was my favourite.

Actually Luke was a founding member along with Ronnie. They were originally called "the Ronnie Drew group", although I think that was more by accident than design. It was Luke who suggested they name themselves "the Dubliners". Luke returned to England for a couple of years in late 1963/ early 64 and re-joined the group in 1965.

  • A friend just gave me this link.

Immediately loved what I was hearing, then I saw the comment from the person who posted it.

Just so sad to hear that Mr. Kelly was gone before I even got to listen to him.

  • @albar76 it was Ronnies band !

    So so sad !

Never forget ceiran ,Luke or Ronnie !

  • @63frankie Ronnies band? I dunno about that. don't get me wrong I love Ronnie, but Luke was special. "The best we've ever had", to quote Ronnie himself

  • what date was this performance??

  • @fla1990

    Late 83

  • 7 People have no Heart !!!!

  • Miss home, miss Luke, great, great man of perfect words and tone.

  • only one luke kelly a brav e man sadly missed as are all the dubliners saw them many many times always a joy to see them and listen to their unique voices

  • @yorkshirelass46 very nice comment bit of class.

  • what makes it even more beautiful is that his band knew he was dying as he performed this, look at them, they are desolate. i'll be happy to die just to have seen this

  • this is the most beautiful / saddest thing i have ever seen!!,

  • pure poetry

  • I fell in love with this song from the first time I hear it :)

  • @moistplinth930 agreed

  • This one reason I love being of Irish decent. Irish people can create beautiful music like this.

  • i choke up every time i hear this

  • nice command but with time as it goes round and around to show us all as how we are, we WILL still have luke and the boys and the new boys to sing the lands love out there :) never forget those how are brave enough to stand up and sing there hearts out for our GREAT land and show this wide world why our small country stands all others to show that we the Irish are the soul of this PLANET! nice tune

  • This is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. So proud to be Irish:-)

  • Elvis Presley died at age 42. Luke died at 43.

I'm a big fan of both, and I find that fact interesting. Granted, much of the cause of Elvis's death was self-inflicted, whereas Luke died of the complications of a brain tumor.

I'm a 21 year-old American, born a generation after Luke Kelly made his mark in the hearts of the millions. However, I take this music as my own, because it is part of my heritage, and it is of a time I cannot visit again, but wish more than anything to do so. RIP Luke

  • I must away now,I can no longer tarry,

This morning's tempest,I have to cross,

    I must be guided,without a stumble,

Into the arms I love the most

cant get better that this really...

  • long time gone from us, but never forgotten.

luke kelly, a true nations great

  • Even when he looked his worst he sung like a god, blessings upon you luke and may you and every other member of the legend that has been the dubliners never be forgotten. . .

  • i useta here my mom singing this in our garden at home

  • irelands bob marley..r.i.p.

  • im from ohio i like this music

  • For a man that was very sick and on his death bed, i do not know how he got the strenght to pull his wonderful voice out once more for this song....best ballad singer that will ever grace the earth, Luke Kelly Respect..

  • I just noticed, after hearing this song for probaly the 30th time that Luke sounds a bit like Ciaran in this articular vid... strange.

  • best export we ever had was talent like this

  • Comment removed

  • I left my home last year . Co, Kildare after 33 years. What keeps me going is the dubliners, christy and Planxty to name a few. Ireland will never be the same. like it was years ago . Lov life my follow Irish ,

  • @plugerss don't lose the pride lad we will still fly the flag wherever that may be.

    .

  • this is why ireland is the best little country on gods sweet earth, never mind the imf, ecb, money and greed which has cast our wonderful island into such pain and torment!! luke kelly is iconic and his music will be with us forever and in him we will find our way back from the pain and torment!!

  • there is not another like him he was and still is brilliant pity i could nt have seen them playing live

  • Are there any more videos from this specific concert?

  • I have lived in many countries , but nothing makes me more proud than to be Irish and to be from a country where our music sends shivers to your very core. We Are a great nation and a great people and altho at times things look bleak i take comfort in the fact that we are loved, respected and envied the world over. Never forget your past and always be proud to be Irish, because no country comes close to what we have ;)

  • @dayo121 cudnt have said it better!!!!!!

  • @dayo121 God bless Ireland and Irish people.

  • @dayo121 great comment.

  • @dayo121 here here

  • @dayo121 love Luke and his voice....and yes you can be proud......

  • What could be more moving than this? a dying man -a master no less- singing the lines "I must away now.... "

  • @kerpin09 this song brings a tear to my eye every time i listen to it,as u said a dying man singing "i must away now"....heart breaking

  • I haven't watched this in a while. How can something so terribly sad be so completely wonderful at the same time? Poor, dear Luke fading before our eyes, yet so brave and dignified right until the end. It's almost a spiritual experience hearing Luke sing those sad, prophetic words, his voice strong and clear, as if to defy the end which he knew was near. I believe that all sad things have a certain beauty about them, and this performance is proof of that. RIP Luke.

  • Unbelievable vocalist, my all time favourite and the only song (video) that can bring tears to this grown man's eye...

Irish Blood, English Heart - Fletch

  • This is a very sad beautiful song and Luke's kind

will come not again. He does look "so tired" and "oh so weary".

We were lucky to have had him for as long as we did, though far far too briefly.

God bless Luke Kelly,a great Irishman-a great artist.I am sure that The Dubliners along with the rest of us miss him. R.I.P.

  • Six people have serious mental issues!

This just tears the soul out , hauntingly beautiful man

  • MAGICAL RIP Luke

  • Sad wee song, What is it about?

  • gr8888888888888

  • A generation ago we gave the world Luke Kelly, Liam Clancy, Paul Brady, Planxty...now we're known for Jedward, Westlife, Ronan Keating, Bryan McFadden. In a way it's kind of fitting, culture always reflects the society that spawns it. The Celtic Tiger turned us into a bunch vapid, greedy, self-aggrandising muppets with no culture

  • @TomthatiscalledTom Sad but true. I'd love to be able to contradict you, but seems you've it pretty watertight there!!!

  • @TomthatiscalledTom you hit the nail on the head, these had passion for music and not show boating. you can just imagine thses guys going for pints after this show and reflecting on there life together cause they knew what was around the corner.....kellyoneill we owe you a lot of gradittude.....without your videos this would be forgotten....i raise a toast........to luke

  • @TomthatiscalledTom So true but could be said about society as a whole, I am an englishman who Just loves all the great singers & groups you mention, there were of course many more that you & I know of. This particular Luke Kelly performance of the Night visiting song is, in my opinion, a masterpiece & when you think of the events [R.I.P Luke] that followed shortly after so poignant. I believe Ireland still has the culture but it is being overwhelmed by all the hype & promotion of rubbish.

  • @Teddyb1939 Well yes, I think it's not just Ireland, it's across western society generally. There's always ben a division between performers who just want to make a quick buck and those who want to say something about life. But there seems to be apathy now in our culture and a belief that we're just here to be consumers, nothing else. It's not just infantilised music , look at cinema, television or the newspapers, it's assumed we're all idiots, only interested in sex, sport and celebrity
