The cops for whatever reason didn't do shit despite only being assembled a few blocks away so what did they do? They went to the campus and took it out on the students. In any case, the cops will very often attack peaceful protesters if they don't have a permit or if they're "disturbing the peace," doesn't matter if they're breaking shit or not.

Some of the protesters were violent, some were not. The police did not damage the local community by throwing rocks and bricks. The protesters did. You can't just let people run around and do as they please without consequences. They have to be held accountable for their actions.
