I know Derren Brown can easily pull this off, however I agree this video does have some falsity in it. No way Derren would endanger a womans life like that and leave her hanging for that long. the whole basis of the trick is to convince her that her legs can't move and to make her believe it is natural. she won't panic because that's part of what holds her there. i've seen similar hypnosis tricks in person. if she feels like she is grave danger it will fail so calming her is important. that shouldn't discount the possibility of him using actors. however, as i said before, i've seen similar demonstrations. it does work.

If you watch what he does, he steps on both her feet and pushes her down into the ground from her shoulders, then affirms her position by giving her a sharp nod (whilst looking in her eyes) and setting her shoulders.

It depends whether he had an opportunity to "work" on her beforehand, in some way. The indirect, or "wrapped" suggestions usually have to be "buttressed" by a scaffolding in different modalities. There seems to be not much time for that, so the direct suggestion may be more appropriate. As I said, we may not see the whole story in the clip.

I'm sure - I used some software to enhance the sound, remove some of the noise - the only word Im' ambiguous about is "Stop" which could well be "Stuck" - which would be an interesting linguistic pattern break (confusing the brain by using an inappropriate word, but then not giving them enough time to actually analyze what was wrong about it - a bit like saying "The baby seems sleeping" - the brain can't quite deal with it under pressure)
