ok. is anyone else seriously freeked out by how one of the choices looks alot like the tenth? side burns, skiny, crazy hair. I guess it is possible that russel wanted to refference it by making david look like him and david liked the look so he stuck with it but still....
I've always loved the second Doctor and have thought of him as one of my faves. I love the "Stop! Your making me dizzy". He is exactly the type of character I would imagine the Doctor to be. Tom Baker and David Tennant also seem to manage to get that balance of seriousness and fun.
@theblehguy1 was this the only outside-the-Tardis regenration? maybe that's why he needed a nudge. OK, PT went to JP outside the Tardis, but the time lords did that
Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I thought that loads of material from Hartnell's last serial, The Tenth Planet, had been lost, and that only the regeneration survived? Where'd you get the other footage?
Doesn't the first choice look like Leonardo da Vinci? And the second a *gasp* black man? A black Dr Who? Very daring for the 1960s! But he's right - those choices were all awful! What he ended up with was definitely the best by comparison, and at least he can live with it (eventually).
I think the 2nd-10th doctors have been much more adventurous and do more interfering in the dangerous affairs of others (saving the worlds and all that) which is why they end up dying far more often than the first.
UNIT!! Hey, thats funny. I'm too young to have scene the original doctor who series, but i've watched all of the RTD series and i love it! This is all cool to see. Thank you very much!
no watch the sarah janes adventures i cant remember wat episode it is the second one with the bane and the brigader is like 60-90 yrs old same actor though lol
ps i am 12 and have watch all episodes and a few apparently lost ones lol
The important thing to remember is that the 12 limit is an *artificial* one imposed by the Timelords/Rasillon; in several different stories (Trial of a Timelord; The Five Doctors; Keeper of Traken (thru) Castrovalva, et al), it was made clear that Timelords can have more than 12 regenerations. In The Five Doctors, the council dangles a new life-cycle of regenerations in the Master's face as incentive to aid the Doctor; The Valeyard exists between the Doctor's 12th and *later* regenerations...
Ah cmon, we all know this legendary show isn't going to end with the Doc reaching his twelth regeneration! This show has been going on for many different generations... I'm sure something "special" will happen so he'll live for longer and longer
i think to be honest, Timelords can only choose once.
The Doctor lost his choice because it was forced apon him in The War Games. Romana managed to choose hers and so did the Master in Utopia, hence saying "if the doctor can be young and bold, then so can i" hinting that this was hic choice for that renewed life cycle.
@aparent300 Yeah, it's so sad that the BBC destroyed a lot of DW episodes and younger fans will never see Who in its entirety. Shows how short-sighted they were at the time. Oh, to borrow the Tardis and nip back in time to grab some of those films before they were junked!
I want to thank you for putting these videos together, but you may want to re-watch Spearhead from Space. The Doctor doesn't steal the clothes from a gentleman showering in the other room. He steals the hat and coat from a visiting expert and the rest of the outfit he finds in a nearby locker room. (Just had to say that. Otherwise, I quite enjoyed these!)
I had always figured that the TARDIS sensed what was about to happen, and flew itself out of there. Or maybe the Doctor pschically connected with it and asked to to go. Or something like that.
It's funny...Tom spends the whole episode smiling :) The scene where he pulls up in Bessie for the stuff to stop the robot was funny...all you see are, ahem, teeth and curls :)
Why is it that most people think, hartnell's clothing changed when he regenrated? If you look at Patrick's clothing at 1:53 to 2:00 you can see he is still were Will's clothing.
It is stated quite clearly in many "About Time" almanacs, DWM archives, official websites, and even several cited sources on wikipedia (not that wiki = absolute proof) that the 1st doctors clothes change during the first 'rejuvenation.' Go to the official BBC DW website and look at the POWER OF THE DALEKS photonovel. It is quite clear that the color of the Doctor's pants change, he looses his white vest, monocle, hat, and scarf, and his spotted cravat becomes a bow tie.
As far as the idea of the TARDIS being involved in the regeneration, it was probably just helping him out on the first 'go', particularly given the implication in later novels that the Doctor spent some time trying to hold off his regeneration.
Actually, as far as the Doctor's age goes, we already have clear proof he's probably lying about it; the Seventh Doctor states that he's 953 immediately after his regeneration (Personally, I think the Ninth Doctor took his comment about "900 years of time and space travel" and just considered THAT his age, ignoring the 200 or so years before he acquired the TARDIS)
He complained about his ears sticking out in his fourth incarnation... imagine how he must have felt when he first caught a glimpse of pair number nine!
Actually, it's been compared in-series to the Dictator of the alternate Earth the Third Doctor encountered in "Inferno", prompting some speculation- even for the Doctor himself- that the dictator of that world was an alternate version of the Doctor himself.
They didn't think he'd done anything BAD, they just prefer to take a 'hands-off' approach to the affairs of the universe and objected to the Doctor getting involved like he does.
I actually think that the first regeneration is one of the best. Creepy music and sound effects, very unnerving. I also think the effect of merging the two faces is very good, especially for 1966 - his face actually appears to change rather than just fading from one actor to the other, like 3 to 4.
If I recall correctly, I think he also went on to appear as Chancellor Goth in "The Deadly Assassin", a Time Lord who was allied with the Master in a scheme to become President of Gallifrey.
haha bless patrick troughton "oh well he's too old, well he's just too fat isn't he, no he's too thin, that ones too young oh that won't do at all" lol
ya, reeeeeeeeeally old... but he looks like a puppy in that one episode with David T. where He's with The Master and he's aging The Doctor. When he gets to where he's really short and looks like an alien, that's when I want to give him a doggy treat. I'm just just kidding ing
True, but in an Interview with Matt Smith On the Doctor Who Website, he says he's playing a 950 year old time lord so he may just be lying and know how old he is
That doesn't help much since the Seventh has called it at 953 ^^; same with the fourth as 743 and so on - the doctors age changes so much because he simply can't remember - Romana pointed this out more than once lol
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
the 2-3 is actually wrong because the 2 doctor's and the five doctor's took place after war games For Doctor 2... SO HAHAHAHAHAHA... I KNOW MORE THAN YOU
Have you thought about the season 6B theory? That the 2nd doctor worked as an agent for the time lords during The Two Doctors and The Five Doctors? Read it up and you will see, as the production notes says on The Two Doctors' DVD it "neatly cuts across all continuity errors". Try reading up before you criticise. Don't be such a bloody child too.
I always found the Troughton regen quite creepy and trippy haha! I love to watch the Doctor choose an outfit though, just proves even aliens play dress up ;op lol. great vid!
This is the first and only time that the doctor's clothes regenerate as well as his body.
Some have claimed that this is actually not a pure regeneration but a technologically aided 'rejuvination'-having to do with the Tardis or something like that. Well, thats what they said at the time. Hey, it was their first time and that period of the show was full of continuity errors that were never retconned IN THE TV series.

He was tried at the end of The War Games and was banished to earth in a new body.
Teh, lol I bet you thought the Sixth Doctor regenerated at the end of The Trial of a Time Lord...

Don't be such a bloody child too.

did the 2nd doctor regenerate with the 1st clothes on?
shaolinwisdom 3 years ago
This is the first and only time that the doctor's clothes regenerate as well as his body.
Some have claimed that this is actually not a pure regeneration but a technologically aided 'rejuvination'-having to do with the Tardis or something like that. Well, thats what they said at the time. Hey, it was their first time and that period of the show was full of continuity errors that were never retconned IN THE TV series.
