The band was The 2nd Incarnation of The Short List; Geoff Whitehorn Gtr, Leonard "Stretch" Stretching drums, Jerome Rimson bass,. Nick Pentelowe on sax, Cathy and Helen BV's , myself, Tim Hinkley Piano/Oragn and Chappo of course. This was the band that blew through Europe from 1978-1981 and IMHO the best of the many later versions of The Short List.
Fantastic ! The lengendary red boiler suit and all .... Roger Chapman Short List " Live In Hamburg" is a great slice of vinyl if you can find it ..... Boz Burrill ( King Crimson ) played sax on the LP.
Chappo 4ever!
A bunch of fine musicians getting their groove on. This is the kind of live show everybody dreams about and those women can sing back-up in my bed anytime..
Didn't know Chapman back in 1981 (aged 16 then). But I remember sitting in front of the TV hoping this appearance will never end. ;-) Nearly 3 hours, just thrilling...
i used to learn geoff whitehorn´s solos from the live in hamburg album. i did meet geoff while i was playing at the frankfurt musikmesse sometime in the early 90ies. i was playing at the di marzio booth, when geoff walked by i stopped and said, hey geoff! you made me practice, man! he said: thanks. then keep on practicing!;-)))) coooool dude!
Chappo is one of the best musicians! I saw him often and he never stopped playing, the maximum was more than three hours, changing his shirt seven times
I`be been there (I must been a little bit younger than today ;-)) ... Chapman played until the morning comes outside the Gruga ... absolutely phantastic .. if one thinks about today`s concerts where after 1,5 hours its over and out .. Chapman seemed to have FUN to play there .. and we`d also listen to it and had a great party ... wow.
This is the best setting for Geoff Whitehorn as far as I am concerned and know of,
his tone is exellent and the atmosphere is perfect for the the flow of his notes!

Boz Burrell played in a later version of The Short List. Particularly on the double album "He Was, She Was".

I was at this show in the Markthalle in Hamburg. Nobody can get the crowd going like Chappo.

Buntmeister is right ! No Gruga-Halle without Heh heo Heo from the crowd... :+)
Anyway, Chappo is fantastic ! Thanx for posting this video.

Confirmed, it is not grugahalle, I have grugahalle on tape, and the intro to this song is very different

still good stuff, but no match for what chappo was doing in family; by this time he had definitely gone into "simpler is better" mode.
too bad he`s chosen to remain there ever since...if you think this is good, check out family`s "good news - bad news" on youtube for an eye-opener...

Very refreshing music. And I recond this is a elativily modern Chapman at work? Hero in 71-74 with Family?
