Nice stuff, i just ordered a Evga a1 299, and a core i7, it's going to be sweet, also just got a evga 260 GTX, cheap! and a 850watt psu, good stuff man
the core i7s are called "quad core" because there are 4 physical cores on the processor die
however each core is capable of taking on two threads at once (hence the term "hyperthreading") and each core will appear to the os as 2 separate cores
so physically the 920 only has 4 cores, but it can handle 8 threads at once (compared to one thread per core for other cpus without hyperthreading)
how much did this cost in total if you don't mind sharing? ^_^ I know my i7 rig cost me around 1800, but I have a GTX 285 included in my rig with dual 640GB HD. How does your stock intel fan run, I know mine is like a razor X.x;; Sexy build btw with xp!
core i7 is based on the Nehalem architecture, but its codenamed Bloomfield (just like the core 2 line is based on the core architecture but has different codenames like yorkfield, penryn, etc.)
Nice build! Only 3 Problems I see. First of all, run Vista 64. I know, most noobs don't like it because they don't know how to tweak it and lighten it up, but if you use Vlite to trim some shit off of vista 64, you will be pleased. Otherwise, 1/2 of your cores are being wasted because XP can only use 2. Not to mention DX10, which all the newest drivers are being made for. Next, is the wireless mouse/kb... laggedy lag slow no good for gaming. Lastly, OVERCLOCK!!! Should hit 3.8-4.4 GHz Easy.
you have a nice system...I would get 3 graphics cards and a 1200w power supply...I also recommend you get western digital velociraptor,
anyways that is a nice system...my system is almost done. I am spending a little over $3000 on it its pretty nice, if any one wants to hear or read anything about my components just PM me. =)
nice budget pc in vid, but as far as your setup edge160 since you want to run the new core i7, id recommend tripple channel memory (3x1GB) and the 400watt may be enough, but would be a low minimum id say get a 500+watt (also the one you specified is 20+4 pin, get a 24 pin main connector for the gigabyte board)
oh yeah i love how you chose xp, if u wana play crysis you can get the very high hack which is like 5- 20 fps faster than the regular so now u can add AA, Af or higher res...
The XFX GTX 260 Black Edition is the best 260 there is, it beat the GTX 280 in a few games. Get it, its cheaper & just as good.. Unless you have the money, then get a GTX 285
My friend had the GTX 260 Core 216, wasn't too good for him, I hope it's better for you. So you know, I am Taiwanese and since you said "when I went to Taiwan", I guess your Taiwanese. Looks like we are rivals though, I just ordered my Phenom II 920 and I have a 4850. Let the games begin!
your house looks amazing, your Asian so you most likely have an amazing job to afford to build such a great gaming rig and pay your mortgage. by the way how much did you buy your house for and how much did all of those parts cost?
Oh my God... Im sooo jealous of you man that computer is going to be the best thing in the whole wide world... Wow I wish I was you lol. I don't have any support from my parents so I have to stick with my 2002 Win XP computer with 60 gb of HD lol!!! Well... things will get better in the future... Im only 15 years old so I hope my future gets brighter :D. My uncle told me that in summer he was going to help me build one and it might look just like yours! :D
There's nothing wrong with his choice of components. The core 216 performs just as well as a clocked 280, and the P182 is a great case to work with (just read up on all the positive reviews on it), and OCZ makes good RAM.
The only thing I'd like to point out is the memory choice. Not because they aren't Dominator's, but because tests show that running 6GB actually gives a nice performance boost over 3GB, at least in games.
Other than that, solid build man, don't listen to the haters.
haloo . i think the xp recognizesing the gpu + the rams . i think so am not sure i jast try to help . and i love you set up but am thinking if its stapl or not ? , and the psu is it good ? ,

6GB DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHz - 2X2GB+2X1GB
ATI Radeon HD 4350 512MB
640GB Serial ATA 2 Hard Drive 7200RPM
I have 200 dollars left. do any of you think I should upgrade a certain part?
The mother board has one pci-e slot and two pci slots. 350 supply watts. Thanks guys holla back!!!

depends what your priority for your comp is for
if it's for gaming, you might wanna check for an available upgrade for the video card
otherwise, you can upgrade the cpu
ram and hard drive are fine, no need to change tht

Does hyperthreading work in XP ? :S
I'm abit confused about it, as in, will the processor show as 8 cores under XP?
Cheers.
tommywomble 2 years ago
yes for both ;D
azncompgeek94 2 years ago
I saw that the 920 is quad core on the box.. Is there like 2 "sections" on the cpu with quad cores in both thus making 8 cores?

clock speed alone doesnt determine speed...just so you noe
the core i7 at stock clock can easily surpass a high-end core 2 quad @ 3 GHz, let alone pentium ee

Does the Evga X58 overclock good and is it stable?
What lights does the board have? Does the start/cmos button have lights? I'm very interested on the lights like the 750i and 780i.
ojomow 3 years ago
well i havent really started overclocking extremely high yet (prolly around 3.2 - 3.5 ghz only)
the mobo has most lights that the 780i has (power, hdd activity, post lcd that also functions as a temperature reading, standby, dimm)

im just a high school student with parents not too fond of gaming...so this computer is mainly for multimedia authoring and such ;D
i was originally going for 6gb but was on a tight budget, but i might throw in more in the near future
by the way, i dont know if you're aware of this, but in my 32-bit xp, only 2 out of the 3 gb ram is recognized
my dual-booting 32-bit vista recognizes all three though...
