I've watched all 4 of your videos and I am amazed at how much is produced in such a small space! Thank you for sharing your knowledge of aquaponics. Your work is truly inspiring! Especially to me, as a Pioneer of One Community Ranch, an open source sustainable community. Our group is looking for members who are experienced in growing organic food by aquaponics and permaculture to support a new way of living. We welcome you to our website! Thanks again Grace, Olive, and of course, OC cat! ;)
Mahalo for the video. Dr. James Rakocy and Dr. Wilson Lennard have done a great job presenting at the International Workshop on Aquaponics and Tilapia during August 2010 at Hilo, Big Island of Hawaii. To learn more about the workshop and to watch many free, full length presentations from that workshop go to AquacultureHub website.
Sorry,... but what is in "grow bed number three" at 4:17 ? The plant in question Was on the other side of Zucchini? I believe it is the north side.... It seems you got distracted with the peas & cucumbers (Rightfully so!... a great story) .... I'd love to know :)
Do you use any nutrients at all with the fish in the system. I am going to add fish tanks but I am worrried about giving up my nutrients i grow my plants in. can you tell me what your PPM readings are. Also are supplementing your light so taht you can grow summer crops all year around. What a nice set up and I'm sure so much time. Its good to see such a great system in place.
@watercatwn6535nd Hi you don't add nutrients but you may have to ad chelated Iron. You can tell if it needs iron as the leaves start to yellow from nutrient deficiency. Iron helps the plants uptake nutrients and trace elements. You can also ad some seaweed extract just make sure it has no additives in it. Aquaponics is a bit of a compromise plants need a ph below 7.0 to up food. Aerobic bacteria need ph. above 7.0. Hence a compromise.
if u have ever seen popey the salor man cartoon and he eats the spinach and his muscles grow...well its fake, spinach does the opposite,it has a mineral in it that slows down the growth of muscles XD
but AWESOME areoponics greenhouse u guy have. How long did it take u to complete it?
Dear Flipwilson1: This is the first time I've ever planted anything; so I wanted to be successful. The "little greenhouse" insures lots of humidity. I spray the seeds every day and give them lots of TLC. It worked really well with our first planting. I also have a seeding-tray under heater which I will use this time as the weather has cooled down quickly this fall. Under heat also is very beneficial for the seeds. Thanks so much for viewing our Greenhouse Tour Video and sharing your comment.
Dan: Thank you for your comment. We so appreciate it as encouragement is a great motivator. We're learning as we go so you could describe this as an OJT experience; and we're loving every minute of it.

Thank you for posting this. I have a small hobo system made from recycled material, and I just put the seeds in the system and watch them sprout.
What is the necessity for the small greenhouse to sprout the seed?
