There are 3 modes, They are "On" "Parking" "Off" In that order. The answer would depend on how you are tapped into your vehicles power. Example, if the device loses all power it will not go to parking surveillance mode and just turn off. This might be what happened to you. The question is do you need parking surveillance if not turn the feature off.

you ever have a problem with the parking mode not turning on? it does it once in a while for me.
my cars a hybrid so it has like two different shut down phases, that might be the reason.
