dave you're probably aware that the htc desire isn't the greatest gaming device.
I purchased the phone just about a week back and am a little disappointed with the lack of gaming capabilities of the phone. Do you think the android 2.3 update will bring smoother graphics and better gaming in general to the phone? I'm kinda confused right now. :S
@PlayStationHidden Well the Desire has been out for some time now. The Desire HD is nice and fast, good for gaming. In answer to your question though, yes I think 2.3 will speed things up on the gaming front.
Sure, the desire HD is new, and may also be a little improved than the original desire, but the fact is that most people including me cant afford a new phone every 3 months or so. Manufacturers like Samsung/HTC really should give all the benefits and updates to the older phones as well, because as they like to say, " it's been YOU".
Hi can i just say that i've really enjoyed your videos on the HTC desire. Your very clear and informative! I'm getting the desire tommorow and these videos have helped, thanks! :)
G'day. I found your videos by chance and think they're really well done and easy to understand; thank you!
I've recently purchased a HTC Desire after using WM6.1 and active-sync. I find with the current HTC sync application to laptop (XP pro) that it only does calendar and contacts. Is there any way I can get my tasks, and a copy of my email (MS Outlook) folders onto my Desire (as I did with WM6.1)?
Two questions.. Is the USB connection plug and play? Like can I connect it to any computer (almost) regardless of OS without installing any additional drivers and transfer files like if it was a regular USB stick? I have this ability on my old SE k800i, and really like that I can use it with linux etc.
2) Does its media player support Winamp playlists? Again my SE does this, and I like that I can just transfer my playlists.
thanks for ur reply. i have got one more question. how can i install APPS directly onto SD card. whenever i try to nstall an app, it is directly storing on my phone memory. it is really annoying,,it always displays i'm running short of storage. currently it is showing that i have jus 10-mb left,,,but i've only installed few apps that don't even exceed 60-70mb overall,,,,,,,i was kind of wondering, where the 500mb of phone memory has gone which the HTC has specified???
@davomrmac Would it be worth it to buy the htc desire outright and use wi-fi as the only source of internet. or do the back ground wigidts take up internet that i will have to pay for?
@BigNadz23 Widgets that pull data whilst your outside will need internet service from your provider. You will need to pay for this or have it as part of your contract.
@BigNadz23 I just bought one of these and I do not use the service providers internet. Using only the wi-fi is perfectly adequate and causes no problems, during set up it gives you the option to turn off the 3g but you can turn it back on at any time .......... hope this helps :D
Recently i've installed Launcher pro beta on my desire, it really looks great. But some of the widgets which were installed on HTC sense are not showing up when i tried to open in launcher pro, eg,,the HTC clock widget, HTC photo frame, Friend stream, News widget etc,, could you please help me how to figure out these issues
@kartheekzzz Sorry for the short response, but it might be an install error. My suggestion, uninstall and see if all goes back to normal. Or see if there is an update to the app launcher.

Hi Dave, you have got a great series for Desire coverage.
I'm currently a iPhone user and am looking to get an android phone, with the desire being top on my list. The only question I have about the desire before jumping platform is does it support push (contacts, calendar, mail) for exchange, as it's a pretty big deal for me. Would greatly appreciate it if I could get an answer.
dose any one know how u sort the text and ringtone out been into sd card and put the mp3 into media ringtone and notifacation folders ringtone works but text dont any tips or advice as i have been lookin around the net and tryin diffrent set ups on the htc desire but its got me stumped thankz
my battery doesn't seem to last more than a day. I have down loaded a task master app but it doesn't seem to make a difference. Any help would be gret as i lov the phone but i have found this dissapointing.
thanks for the video and the answers. my question is about the screen. Do you think screen has a special coating protects from scratches ? or shall we use additional product such as invisible shield? if so How capacitive screens work with such folio on the screen?? cheers
@ardabayer It is glass, very resistant to scratches. I fitted a screen film to mine anyway and it still works fine. All my videos have the screen film in place.
the screen looks horrible if you're outside. got a legend and it's the same. its fine indoors but once the sun shows.... it's a lot worse than on other phones.
is there a way of shutting down my folders? meaning if you hold the house button you have a few folders which i think has not shut down... cause its killing my battery life... example.... i go on facebook how do i close it down... let me know thanks
The most important question for me: Is it right that the HTC Desire does have massive speaker (the rear speaker) sounds problems? So if you talk to someone using the speaker, the quality is very, very bad? And is it possible to fix it via software or is it even an hardware problem?
@Whizzkitt Not a silly question at all. The voice (mic) and incoming sound (ear speaker) quality is very clear. One of the better ones I have heard. Only the external speaker lets it down a little with slight distortion at max volume.
as i have always used windows operated HTC phones my biggest concern is wether i can still sync all my appointments and contacts from outlook which is windows operated with the HTC desire. everything else on all the videos i have seen looks magical with this phone and i am only held back by this one question. Can you please clarify for me. Cheers
Hi, can you please clarify if the desire has animated weather scenes on the main screen, like the htc hd2 and hd mini?? From the videos that ive seen it doesnt look like it does...
While you can't launch an app from within one you can press and hold the home button to switch to a running app. Give it a try and see for yourself. I happened to discover it by accident.
Could you do tests on Battery life and it's 3G connection. Will it has problems like Nexus One when you hold the bottom of the back cover, the 3G connection reduce to EDGE?
What is the audio volume like through earphones? Lots of people are saying it is very quiet and does not match up to an Ipod or Iphone. Can you confirm this?
Thanks again for this collection of videos, I have watched all of them and they are all very helpful. Please write back to my question, Cheers :)
@MrPotassium The volume through the headphones is a little quiet, but plenty loud enough really. With my Sennheisers there is a noticeable improvement.
However, I'm wondering about Bluetooth and WLAN. The Legend can't use Bluetooth and WLAN at the same time cuz they share antenna. Atleast that's what I've heard... what I want to know is if this "problem" exist on Desire aswell?
on the last point of multitasking, you can switch between running programs by dragging down the taskbar at the top which gives you a list of currently running applications.
@patasenko89 Speaker goes pretty load (see my music playback), quality is good on all but the highest volume where it distorts slightly. Headphones are OK, but can be bettered by spending £15+ on some Sennheisers or similar. The phone feels really well built, nice quality, the back has a nice tactile feel too.
I'm a winmo user, but I am seriously considering getting one of these. It seems to be an awesome handset, but one of my largest issues is text input. I SMS alot, and I really do prefer the T9-style typing (on screen) I can get on my htc winmo (diamond) over the other screen keyboards (of all different variations). I have never owned an Android phone so this is quite the mystery!
What kind of input-keyboards comes with the Desire, and can you get more from the Market?
@Varghjarta it has a t9 dictionary type too and im an ex user and i love the t9 on this. its better than qwert because the buttons are very large in potrait mode and allows you type easilyand quickly. The prediction is even better then nokia. Typing is a piece of cake better then the iphone thanks to the t9 keyboard.
@xcox84 Well, I have consistently got two days between charges. WiFi, Network and Handset Standby were the biggest drains on battery. The app Layars drew 9% of my battery though even when not in use. You can check all these in the Battery Info. At the end of today I will try to remember to update this again with another days statistics.
@xcox84 I listen top mucic 1.5 hrs a day, have all updates on to fetch every hr with email being every 15 mins, all updates via 3g, also have a live wallpaper on which is known as a battery drag, i also make around of an hours calls a day. phone comfortably gives me a full day with 15% battery left at bed time.i can easily turn a few things off and make this last two days.
If you hold in the home button, it will bring you up a list of 6 most recently used applications, it's worth installing an app like killtask to make the most of your battery and speed u your phone.
I have a question on memory usage how many applications do you have installed and how much memory has been used so far is 512 mb enough for applications?
@Axe9445 I have 92MB left. Total apps installed are 42. That includes things like Weatherbug 2.16MB, World War 2.32MB, Spotify 2.36MB, ShopSavvy 2.3MB, Photos take up 10MB, Maps 7MB, Layars 3MB, Internet 7.6MB, so plenty installed.
@Axe9445 not an issue to worry about mate. i know some tech guys mentiond thsi concern in a few reviews but its a non issue. i have had two android phone desire and hero and neither came to a point where the number of apps downloaded caused an issue. the hero slowed down when multi tasking but that had nothing to do with the storage space for downlaaded apps but rather was down to the fact that the hero had a slow processor which couldnt keep up with the multi tasking capabilities of android
Hello Dave. I'm not sure I like your videos 100%, because now I just have to go a buy a Desire phone... You just cost me like 400£ :P. Seriously though: You mentioned the live-wallpapers and the Android Market. You know if there are more live-wallpapers on the market that can be downloaded?
@davomrmac Quick reply and to the point. Thanks. I'm off to go buy one right now. I hope store is still open on a saturday. (lol did I just sound like I just bought a phone based on its live wallpapers...? I heard they drain the battery. They look nice though.)
@Rogue0DK He he, yes you bought it just cos of the pretty wallpapers. Regarding battery drain, my two day quote has been with a live wallpaper, so maybe some drain it more than others.
@davomrmac Hey where do you live Dave? Where ever it is, you are much more lucky than me. I live in Denmark, and after visiting like 100 different stores, I can safly say that it's damn near impossible to find the Desire here. Most suppliers wont have it untill the end of the month!
I'll try online stores next. Some stores did not even have a date set for release yet :(
Hey Davomrmac. Great vids. But could you please cover some of the basic phone functions, i.e. dialing, receiving calls, notifications, sms, email. These are the most used functions, but as far as I can see they are not really showcased. Thanks!
With regards to the cover art issue; when you apply cover art in iTunes, as far as I know it stores that cover art elsewhere independently of the music file. Try saving the cover art to the tag itself (a program like Media Monkey allows you to do this) and it might work- certainly solved the same problem on other phones. Let us know how you get on.
I haven't seen any coverage of the most basic functions of this phone, i.e. making calls, receiving calls, notifications, messaging, email. Can you please cover this in video. Thank you for your great videos!
hey Dave, i think your videos are so useful! i was wondering if you can set passwords to the phone texts, images or just a general phone password for the main screen, also, is there a way to make sure your texts don't appear at the bottom of the lock screen? :) thank you,
I stumbled across this insane video entiltled Htc Desire Multitasking Chaos! (Greek) that demonstrates the multitasking capabilites of this phone. Thx Dave for answering my question re accessing programs.
@ the multitasking thing, if you hold down the home button for 2 to 3 seconds a screen will pop up with your 6 most recently used apps so if the app you want to go to is in that list then, you can multitask :P
can you multitask on this device, for example, run an instant messaging app, switch to music and switch back without having to log in again in the instant messaging app?
Thanks for your awesome videos. I have a question for you
1. Some people with the Legend says that the bluetooth support for headphones doesnt work when wifi is activated? What are your thoughts on that with the Desire, Can you please verify that?
I think I saw a video for HTC Sense where if you held down the home button instead of pressing it once, it would take you to a little window where it would show you up to 6 apps/programs which are currently running, but it was displayed on an HTC Hero so it may have been taken out of the desire's interface. Seems a bit weird to take out a multitasking option which was on previous phones from the same maker.
@JA15XD When on the home screen you press the HOME button and it zooms out to show all your screens. If you press and hold the HOME button a pop-up window shows your six most recently used apps.
Your videos are epic! Also, what is the speed at which the screen changes to and from landscape and portrait view, in a previous video it seemed very slow in changing from portrait to landscape.
Hi Dave. i like all your vids, you put a lots of work in it. just few questions is your handset debranded and if so what languages are avable, just wander if you could check if there is any easy way (like for example in iphone) to swich between languages while typing. thank for your help, Marcin
@ruty1978 You can change the language of the keyboard whilst typing, I see English, Spanish, French, Italian, Nederlands, Norsk, Polish, Portugese, Svenska, Turkish and two I cannot even read :) :(
Thanks for all the videos, I was still wondering a few things. What size Mini SD memory card did the phone come with? I've heard that it would be 8GB but I saw a 4GB one in one of the vids. Also could you possibly show some web browsing experience on the phone, or was this already in one of the previous videos? I might of missed it.
how do you move pictures and videos from my desire to my laptop, i have been using the usb cable but nothing happens..thx

However, I'm wondering about Bluetooth and WLAN. The Legend can't use Bluetooth and WLAN at the same time cuz they share antenna. Atleast that's what I've heard... what I want to know is if this "problem" exist on Desire aswell?
Eroiish 1 year ago
@Eroiish seems fine on mine

I Love your videos, thanks a lot! What about configuring other Mail accounts like GMX? Is it possible or do I need other applications for them?
kamerundia 1 year ago
on the last point of multitasking, you can switch between running programs by dragging down the taskbar at the top which gives you a list of currently running applications.
Agamemnon2357 1 year ago
@Agamemnon2357 I cannot see the running apps in my notification bar.

Hi Dave,
I have just got a Desire, i like it but am having trouble using a couple of features.
Can you get the satellite view on the maps app?
And I cant seem to add my sim contacts on the peoples widget.
Really love the vid, very informative.
xdashs 1 year ago
@xdashs When in Maps, press the Menu button, then tap Layers, then select Satellite.
Not sure on the Sim contacts question anyone?

Hi, how are the speaker and headphones (also 3rd party) volumes? How loud are they?
And, how is the phone feels? Does it have a hole to put strap on it?
patasenko89 1 year ago

Thanks, love the reviews!
Varghjarta 1 year ago
@Varghjarta Take a look at my part 4 video on Camera & Texting, I show you the keyboard options. And, yes more are available in Android Market.
davomrmac 1 year ago
@Varghjarta it has a t9 dictionary type too and im an ex user and i love the t9 on this. its better than qwert because the buttons are very large in potrait mode and allows you type easilyand quickly. The prediction is even better then nokia. Typing is a piece of cake better then the iphone thanks to the t9 keyboard.

Hi i thinking buying the phone. Can you tell me something about the battery life? With 3G on and off standby.
Thank You.
xcox84 1 year ago
@xcox84 Well, I have consistently got two days between charges. WiFi, Network and Handset Standby were the biggest drains on battery. The app Layars drew 9% of my battery though even when not in use. You can check all these in the Battery Info. At the end of today I will try to remember to update this again with another days statistics.
davomrmac 1 year ago
@xcox84 I listen top mucic 1.5 hrs a day, have all updates on to fetch every hr with email being every 15 mins, all updates via 3g, also have a live wallpaper on which is known as a battery drag, i also make around of an hours calls a day. phone comfortably gives me a full day with 15% battery left at bed time.i can easily turn a few things off and make this last two days.

Can you have separate work and personal address books, calendars?

Can you use the Desire as a WiFi router like you can with the HD2 ?
Spacenut77 1 year ago
If you hold in the home button, it will bring you up a list of 6 most recently used applications, it's worth installing an app like killtask to make the most of your battery and speed u your phone.
sebmason 1 year ago
Thanks first of all for the great vid
but i have to mention that your wrong when you say switching directly to another application isnt possible, so multitasking isnt possible!
Try pressing the home button for a few secs then there will be a menu where you can choose all the apps running in the background!

@AlexBlau2203 Yes, I have covered this in another comment. Thanks for the update.

Hi thanks for the video.
I have a question on memory usage how many applications do you have installed and how much memory has been used so far is 512 mb enough for applications?
Thanks
Axe9445 1 year ago
@Axe9445 I have 92MB left. Total apps installed are 42. That includes things like Weatherbug 2.16MB, World War 2.32MB, Spotify 2.36MB, ShopSavvy 2.3MB, Photos take up 10MB, Maps 7MB, Layars 3MB, Internet 7.6MB, so plenty installed.
davomrmac 1 year ago
@Axe9445 not an issue to worry about mate. i know some tech guys mentiond thsi concern in a few reviews but its a non issue. i have had two android phone desire and hero and neither came to a point where the number of apps downloaded caused an issue. the hero slowed down when multi tasking but that had nothing to do with the storage space for downlaaded apps but rather was down to the fact that the hero had a slow processor which couldnt keep up with the multi tasking capabilities of android

@Ghazan Great comment, thanks for adding this.

Hello Dave. I'm not sure I like your videos 100%, because now I just have to go a buy a Desire phone... You just cost me like 400£ :P. Seriously though: You mentioned the live-wallpapers and the Android Market. You know if there are more live-wallpapers on the market that can be downloaded?
Thanks, and keep up the good work.
Rogue0DK 1 year ago
@Rogue0DK There are loads of Live Wallpapers available in Market.
davomrmac 1 year ago
@davomrmac Quick reply and to the point. Thanks. I'm off to go buy one right now. I hope store is still open on a saturday. (lol did I just sound like I just bought a phone based on its live wallpapers...? I heard they drain the battery. They look nice though.)
Rogue0DK 1 year ago
@Rogue0DK He he, yes you bought it just cos of the pretty wallpapers. Regarding battery drain, my two day quote has been with a live wallpaper, so maybe some drain it more than others.
davomrmac 1 year ago
@davomrmac Hey where do you live Dave? Where ever it is, you are much more lucky than me. I live in Denmark, and after visiting like 100 different stores, I can safly say that it's damn near impossible to find the Desire here. Most suppliers wont have it untill the end of the month!
I'll try online stores next. Some stores did not even have a date set for release yet :(
Hey is yours for sale? :P
Rogue0DK 1 year ago
@Rogue0DK :) I cannot sell you mine, liking it too much. However try Clove Technology in the UK, they may be able to ship to you.
davomrmac 1 year ago
@davomrmac Thanks. I'd like a danish version however since we have our own very special "Viking" letters we need in addition to the normal ones. ^^
I was j/k about buying yours. I wouldent sell it either if I where you. lol
Anyway thanks for the info.

@Rogue0DK yes you can get more live wallpapers

Hi! Thank you for the videos. Can you please show me the swedish keyboard, in both compact qwerty and full qwerty. That would be very nice! :)
Hessi93 1 year ago
Hey Davomrmac. Great vids. But could you please cover some of the basic phone functions, i.e. dialing, receiving calls, notifications, sms, email. These are the most used functions, but as far as I can see they are not really showcased. Thanks!
mpe0426 1 year ago
Does the Music player feature the "Cover flow-ish" landscape mode of the HD2?
lekland 1 year ago
With regards to the cover art issue; when you apply cover art in iTunes, as far as I know it stores that cover art elsewhere independently of the music file. Try saving the cover art to the tag itself (a program like Media Monkey allows you to do this) and it might work- certainly solved the same problem on other phones. Let us know how you get on.
Arterion86 1 year ago
Do you use invisible shield or something ?
KILLNBUILD 1 year ago
I haven't seen any coverage of the most basic functions of this phone, i.e. making calls, receiving calls, notifications, messaging, email. Can you please cover this in video. Thank you for your great videos!
mpe0426 1 year ago
About your last answer here, you can enter your last opened apps by pressing long on the Home button from anywhere.

hey Dave, i think your videos are so useful! i was wondering if you can set passwords to the phone texts, images or just a general phone password for the main screen, also, is there a way to make sure your texts don't appear at the bottom of the lock screen? :) thank you,
Jay

Can I access the stock Android launcher in the HTC Desire?

can you show multitasking and games
PSPGlover 1 year ago
@ the multitasking thing, if you hold down the home button for 2 to 3 seconds a screen will pop up with your 6 most recently used apps so if the app you want to go to is in that list then, you can multitask :P

Hi Dave how easy is it to download a film onto the Desire?
Planesailing53 1 year ago
@Planesailing53 I connect via bluetooth or USB to my Mac, mount the SD card, drag films across.
davomrmac 1 year ago
can you multitask on this device, for example, run an instant messaging app, switch to music and switch back without having to log in again in the instant messaging app?

@The45DegreesProject Yes you can, see magma9495 excellent response about this.

JA15XD 1 year ago
@JA15XD When on the home screen you press the HOME button and it zooms out to show all your screens. If you press and hold the HOME button a pop-up window shows your six most recently used apps.
davomrmac 1 year ago
Your videos are epic! Also, what is the speed at which the screen changes to and from landscape and portrait view, in a previous video it seemed very slow in changing from portrait to landscape.
JA15XD 1 year ago
@JA15XD Sometimes it is very fast, other times slow. I think it depends how much is running at the time.

Hi Dave. i like all your vids, you put a lots of work in it. just few questions is your handset debranded and if so what languages are avable, just wander if you could check if there is any easy way (like for example in iphone) to swich between languages while typing. thank for your help, Marcin
ruty1978 1 year ago
@ruty1978 You can change the language of the keyboard whilst typing, I see English, Spanish, French, Italian, Nederlands, Norsk, Polish, Portugese, Svenska, Turkish and two I cannot even read :) :(

Thanks for all the videos, I was still wondering a few things. What size Mini SD memory card did the phone come with? I've heard that it would be 8GB but I saw a 4GB one in one of the vids. Also could you possibly show some web browsing experience on the phone, or was this already in one of the previous videos? I might of missed it.
Thanks :D
