  • .25 inch of pure cement will seal the outside.

  • Use asphalt emulsion, about 3-5% by weight as an additive when you make the adobes. It is water based and works well to give water resistance to exposed adobe. You can also use it as an additive to a mud based plaster applied after the building is up. Alternatively use lime based plasters for a more resistant scarificial coating.

  • Thank you for the information,

  • Cob less the straw, not rammed..

Still great Videos and a fine example of traditional building..

  • is it stabilised with what? what waterproofing sealer did you use?

  • Unfortunately, upto the moment I haven't think of reliable sealant material that is adhesive to the dirt. But still searching

  • super hot wax would absorb into the earth, would be hydrophobic. easily good for walls, maybe even roofs against water.

  • I will be very appreciative if you give more details on this hot wax and where to find it.

  • as you can see from what i have said, it is a theory, but it is of sound logic, how to do it? well, some experimenting would be in order. first the surface must be hot, second melt some wax, third brush or spray wax on the earthen surface, fourth test it again a reasonable rain simulation, repeat until satisfied that either it will not or it will work, hire me if you would like

  • Hi brother, did u mixed straw with the earth or not? 2 will it crack when its dray? thanx

  • Hi there,

    1. Yes, straw is a primary ingredient in the mix

    2. Cracks take place in earth cons. just like concrete or any other construction material. Amount and size of cracks depends more than one factor, mix ratio is the most improtant one.

  • How do they build a concrete flat roof and it manages to stay up without falling in? Definately rammed earth is the cheapest and strongest building material for homes that a meant to last generations. A very genious idea!

  • Actually we are in the process of building a second floor that will be roofed with concrete too.
