Regarding the "pink flower" example, skeptics (like all idealogical philosophers) fabricate standards of judgement that appear to support their position. The 'vatican' of the skeptic movement is CSICOP & Robert Anton Wilson wrote an interesting satire on them called "The New Inquisition". It shows they're not so different from many of the people they attack.
Is this you Steven? He no longer is licensed. He gave up his license in 1993 after failing to get certified. In 2004 he was deemed unworthy of credibility in a Youngstown PA court when he was sued by a chiropractor who publishes material that Barrett finds disturbing. Bolen Report has a complete and detailed history of Barretts misdeeds and court room Failings, complete with court documents and file numbers.
Wait... he's being sued and prosecuted? So he's a defendant in concurrent civil and criminal cases? Wow. That's a pretty bold claim there. How about some references to go along with those assertions sir? Maybe a state? Court? Case number? Something substantive? Or should your menacing tone of impending doom for Barrett and his minions be enough to convince me of the veracity of your claims?
@Stiltwalker81 No, he is being sued in one federal case, and being investigated for prosecution for violating the civil rights of those doctors he is suspected of making false claims against for his own economic reasons. the man has dug himself a hole that he cannot possibly escape.
@Chiropracticmafia I'm thinking that in high school and college (assuming you went to either or both) you were frequently marked down on your research papers for not citing sources. Remember those pesky bibliographies you had to attach to the end? Ok, I'll lower the bar for you. At this point I will take a reference to a major media news outlet corroborating your claims. Until you can do so, I declare shenanigans!
@Stiltwalker81 Obviously, you are either a physical therapist with an ego problem or you are simply no aware of the physiological dynamic of the human condition. Each breath you take your physical state changes due to the O2/Co2 gas exchange. Every time you drink water your bodies PH changes, every time you piss it changes. Even when you generate a thought due to the chemical reactions necessary to activate the neurological process change your individual physiology.
@Stiltwalker81 the insulting tone you've taken on this issue suggests that you either do not have a college education much less a doctorate of any sort. It is generally those individuals with a poor understanding of the topic that tend to get pissy, like you have done. This is typical of Barrett who though he has a doctorate was never able to get certified in his own profession and was relegated to attacking his betters with the financial backing of those he works for.
@Chiropracticmafia Ridicule and contempt is all I have for dishonest purveyors of complete bullshit. You continually evade my simple request to source your claims against Stephen Barrett. Here, let me show you how this is done (unfortunately I cannot post a link). A search at licensepa(dot)state(dot)pa(dot)us returns a result for: Stephen Joel Barrett, Medical Physician and Surgeon, Active - Retired, "No disciplinary actions were found for this license." Shenanigans!
@Stiltwalker81 Barrett is a horses ass. He hasn't been licensed since 1993. He gave it up voluntarily because, I suspect the he couldn't get certified. Upon his passing it is my plan to find his grave, drink a keg in celebration of his passing and filter the keg through my kidneys onto his grave.
@Stiltwalker81 To reply to your CDC comment. First the CDC is in deep doo doo for falsifying studies, in favor of Thimersol content, their lead researcher is being prosecuted for wire fraud. They are openly defying the Freedom of Information Act and not releasing public records that show the dangers of vaccines etc...not only that but they are currently being investigated as accessories to the crime of wire fraud because of their lead researcher. CDC is owned by the Pharm..so?
Holy libelous libel batman! When you have to result to character assassination to support your position, it becomes apparent that your claims are entirely indefensible. I encourage anyone who reads the assertions below to try to source them. Go ahead. See what you find. Sad. Just sad.
@Stiltwalker81 You might wish to consider the people who have backed Barrett have very often lived to regret buying the BS behind that grin he wears. NOT one of his associates has escaped unscathed. Many in fact are scrambling for cover to protect themselves for the fire storm that is currently forming over their heads.
also anyone who has ever thought Barrett was legitimate might rethink their position once their beloved leader is indicted. many who have followed Barrett have ended up sued and in need of legal assistance to separate themselves from the disaster that has become Barrett the puppet master. Also many cures for cancer have been discovered, none of them pharmaceutical, the very paymasters behind Barrett and his attacks on legitimate 'real' doctors who actually passed the national board exams.
the current litigation he is facing may cost him 20 million in damages. He is suspected to have made false claims against doctors all over this country anonymously, ruining reputations and careers. He may be facing federal charges if he can be linked to these complaints. The most damaging cases originating in Texas where he is suspected of being party to making dozens of false complaints against a select few MDs who were damaged by these unsubstantiated claims.
It is also worthy of note that Barrett has attempted to make a living suing people. Has been suspected of making false, anonymous claims and complaints against doctors he disagrees with or does not like. He currently owes millions in settlements. Has won absolutely none of the cases he brought against people, cases he initiated through his organization and later placed himself on the stand as expert witness..to be paid by the defendant he sued. Barrett is a quack.
To those who appear to revere Dr. Barrett might wish to consider this. Dr.Barrett could never get qualified in his profession as a psychiatrist because he could not pass the neurology portion of the national board exam. this was necessary to become certified as an expert in the profession of psychiatry. He is also deemed unworthy of credit in the US court system due to the fact that his testimony has never been based in fact but rather his own opinion and nothing more..ever.
Let's just say two people found a six leaf pink flower while jogging together on the side walk. One of these two individuals says "hey this flow cures cancer", the other says "no it doesn't." ....don't you find it completely illogical to say that the person of skeptism needs to show proof that it doesn't cure cancer? The person making the positive claim is the one that always needs to show proof. Herbs almost never work better than placebo.
@theUSER101 This is incredibly exciting. I never thought I'd actually be getting attacked by an internet troll. If this "M.D." wanted to be taken seriously he would know better than to neglect citing his work. Also, this was months ago and I had just stumbled over the site, maybe it wasn't even the "real" quackwatch. Either way, you're being a douche bag and I love it.
@theUSER101 Since science in its true form requires a fixed environment in which the variables are controlled, physiology cannot be limited by a scientific study, due to the dynamic nature of the human body. Also cancer has many forms only four of which actually respond to chemotherapy...none of which are actually lethal. Also Royal Rife had a non-pharmaceutical device that destroyed cancer...he was destroyed by a Quack Dr. Morris Fishbein. Who never graduated med school
Quackwatch are the real Quack Masters. I heard the guy who set it up, couldn't cut the mustard at medical school, so dropped out and decided to pursue a career as a life long Quack
@UKMrblue Lmao you mean Stephen Barrett, M.D a psychiatrist? A guy who started the website after retiring? The Vice President of the Institute of Science in Medicine? A man who earned the FDA Commissioner's Special Citation Award? Awarded honorary membership in the American Dietetic Association? He taught a Penn State and has a personal library of over 100,000 books. Yeah that guys a real quack...now why don't you go take some slippery elm and become a smart as him.
@theUSER101 He was forced to retire because he couldn't make a living as a doctor. Was employed by the AMA to attack Chiropractors. If Barrett were as smart as you claim he would have won at least one of the suits he initiated. He also wouldn't have been disallowed to testify in court as an expert witness if he actually knew something about which he spoke. Quack: a pretender of medical skills (Barrett)
@Chiropracticmafia I don't worship Barrett or anything, I just think skepticism is the best way to go about things. Barrett definitely seems to have a bias against anything "alternative" because he neglects valid evidence for some things. Chiropractic for example is good for lower back pain but...that is about it, no better than physical therapy though. Using the "human body is complex" argument for lack of evidence in field studies is retarded and isn't true. That is quackery at its best.
@theUSER101 In the truest meaning of the word 'science' as applied in study. the human condition with its dynamic and genetically unique reaction to how it reacts to any given condition let alone a medication...and in more than a few cases an excess of 8, 12 and in one personal experience...32 different medications. How scientific can you be if the person you are studying is taking an entire drug store...? How many reactions can you remove from that variable? You cannot.
@Chiropracticmafia Studies constantly prove things to be effective over and over again, like Valerian root or creatine. Studies show things to be ineffective over and over again, like Echinecia. You cannot just throw the "human body is complex" quackery out every time your magic fails over and over again. Your statement is demonstrably false.
@theUSER101 Skepticism is a negative way to look at anything. giving the benefit of the doubt to a subject you may not understand completely is the most effective way to go if you are truly open minded about it.
@Chiropracticmafia Cont: Skepticism has nothing to do with looking at something negativity. It has everything to do with logic, reality and evidence. If someone says their name is John, no need to doubt it....if someone says they have a pet dragon, there is reason to doubt. If someone claims Chiropractic helps asthma and studies show it doesnt, yet you still believe anyways.....that is irrational and you need some skepticism. Chiropractic really is a joke though.
@theUSER101 No it is not. It is and has been valid throughout its history. Proven over and over to generate a healthy body response to health issues medheads fail to address.
@theUSER101 Only to an ignorant buffoon is Chiropractic a Joke. the entire premise of chiropractic is based on solid physiology, not speculative assessments determined by a bought at paid for study in a lab owned by the pharmaceutical company. I am skeptical of pharmacy, of its general acceptance in mainstream medicine..its overall efficacy..and of course its safety. As Medicine is currently the leading cause of death in the US I'd say your assessment of chiropractic is flawed.
@Chiropracticmafia Funny, the CDC says the leading cause of death is Heart Disease, followed by Cancer, Stroke, Chronic Respiratory Disease, Accidents, Alzheimer's, Diabetes, Influenza and Pneumonia, Nephritis/Nephrotic Syndrome/Nephrosis, Septicemia, Chronic Liver Disease and Cirrhosis, Essential Hypertension and Hypertensive Renal Disease, Parkinson’s disease, and Assault (homicide). Drug related deaths (illegal and prescription) don't even make the top 15. More shenanigans!
@Stiltwalker81 To elaborate, a CDC poison issue brief attributes 27,658 deaths in 2007 to drug poisoning (from both legal and illegal drugs). This includes accidental and intentional overdoses (suicide or homicide). Opioids are, by far, the most significant cause of prescription drug death due to their addictive nature and high rate of abuse. This brief can be found at CDC(dot)gov. See that... I site my sources. No shenanigans here!
@Stiltwalker81 Since the CDC is owned operated and staffed by the pharm your Barrett like devotion to there 'honesty' shows just enough thoughtlessness to be deadly. Death by medicine is a compilation of information that suggests that not only is the profession of Medicine the leading cause of preventable death in the US it is suspected that the information amassed so far is only 5% of the actual numbers of deaths caused by Mds every years.
@Stiltwalker81 Only your shenanigans there pal. Sadly persons like you do not chose to acknowledge 'anything' that shows medicine to be less than pristine, perfect and of divine providence. The church of medicine has its minions much like the medieval church did, even to the point of declaring all non-medical professionals heretics. How dare anyone question the greatness of the church and our high priests? However like the church medicine will soon find itself tarnished Amen
I searched quackwatch and did not find the article you a referring to. A google search of the title returns a single hit at paghat.com/herbalquacks.html This site seems to be about botany, not medical science. Can you link me to this article at quackwatch?
@Stiltwalker81 Quackwatch has a great many articles. However, he tends to remove those which he has lost a settlement to by order of the court. He has lost so many suits lately I'm surprised the site is even operational. word has it that he will lose the right to publish his name on line...
