Anette is so sweet. Okay Tarja was better overall with a nice operatic style. But damn Anette is pretty darn decent lie and not as underwhelming live as Tarja sometimes is. Also Tarja was stuck up, Anette is lovely :)

Don't worry man, this is their first concert from 2007. She has come a very long way since then. Try Nightwish live at Wacken 2008 or perhaps a fan vid from their final concert at Hartwall 2009. She has grown so much!

With such a high number of Nightwish clones Anette helps them to break away from the pack again making them sound different. In terms of mainstream metal, Tarja helped them sound unique but when it comes to symphonic metal, classical singers are a dime a dozen.

No, Tuomas is the music behind Nightwish. He writes mostly everything that the band plays. Tarja, for the most part, wasn't the creative force behind the music. Most of the time she just sang what Tuomas had for a melody.

Of course she can't sing like Tarja. Anette simply has a different voice and different technique. She's not classically trained. However, that by no means makes her a terrible singer. How do you figure? Personally, I think Anette sounds a whole hell of a lot better in their heavier stuff than Tarja. Why? Tarja can get too technical with her singing; it's too proper and there's no dirt to it. With their ballady stuff I'm biased towards Tarja because she CAN sound much prettier. Either of them can do both well within their own way of doing it. I can understand people saying Anette makes them sound poppy, but I'd personally rather listen to that than over the top vibrato...
...and don't tell me I don't know what the hell I'm talking about. I've been involved with choirs and one of my friends is a college singer learning to teach music. Neither Anette or Tarja are absolute in their technique. Anette can get tonally heavy or strained in her singing, but she can belt powerfully and make a particular lyric more convincing than say Tarja's operatic singing. If you listen to her she's sometimes guilty of wandering off pitch because of her vibrato going too wide...
...at a technical standpoint, Tarja is very good. Of course, music is also a stylistic thing. What works for one particular song may not fly too well with another. Anette does sometimes get "spread" in her tone making her sound immature or juvenile. Tarja has good vowel placement (for the most part, no one's infallible) and good tone as well as a very good voice. This song, for example, I think sounds better with Anette, but I can't imagine her singing "The Siren" as well as Tarja.
Of course, you also shouldn't judge ability based on one performance of one song. This is by far not Anette's best at this song. You can tell she gets shouty and heavy in the latter parts of the vid.

I'm not discussing your "liking". I am discussing the vocal changes throughout NW's history. Once doesn't really sound anything like Oceanborn, despite the fact that both albums have the same singer.
Vocal change is not that big in comparison to the band as a whole. The songwriting is the same, the musicians are the same. Only the interpretation of some of the old material has changed. I guess for some people it's big.

DPP sold so many copies because those songs are written for her voice. It's a good album and she's a good singer but she can't sing most of the old songs. However, the Euro 2007 dates were like an experiment, I saw them in Nov 2007 in CA and was scared to death after seeing these vids on You Tube but actually they were great live! That said they cut the set down to only 3 old songs...

Did you hear Tarja sing this on End of an Era? Good lord... she is rarely in tune and her vibrato extends from over a full half step on each side of the note. She also delays resolutions of phrases so that she can be the center of attention and stand out, and sacrifices the music as a whole to boost her own ego.
It's really no surprise they fired her right then and there after that concert. I mean, I would've just on the basis of her singing, let alone her attitude.

Anette can get tonally heavy or strained in her singing, but she can belt powerfully and make a particular lyric more convincing than say Tarja's operatic singing. If you listen to her she's sometimes guilty of wandering off pitch because of her vibrato going too wide...

...at a technical standpoint, Tarja is very good. Of course, music is also a stylistic thing. What works for one particular song may not fly too well with another. Anette does sometimes get "spread" in her tone making her sound immature or juvenile. Tarja has good vowel placement (for the most part, no one's infallible) and good tone as well as a very good voice. This song, for example, I think sounds better with Anette, but I can't imagine her singing "The Siren" as well as Tarja.

too. If she did it in a softer way,
the ballads would be a lot prettier.
But I actually like Anette's version of The Siren.

the problem is comparing Annette to Tarja... The first has a normal voice, nothing special...but Tarja was awsome, when she sang she made me feel touched...She was like a crystal rain above a metal river...
Annette doesn't give me any emotion....It is just a good singer like a lot of others... But nothing else...

They didn't "lose" their style. They produced symphonic metal with Tarja and they continue doing that with Anette.
Considering that they already "lost" their pseudo opera style with Tarja after Wishmaster, i don't see what people are complaining about.

Tarja changed something in her way to singing, it was less opera style, but I still liked it.. It was just a way to renovate them, but they didn't any BIG change.. Listening their song after Wishmaster, I still felt the same sensations...
Annette is a BIG change... and in my opinion a decline of Nightwish...

Vocal change is not that big in comparison to the band as a whole. The songwriting is the same, the musicians are the same. Only the interpretation of some of the old material has changed. I guess for some people it's big.

That would apply to anyone. Every song has to be adjusted to the singer's voice. However, the genre of NW has not changed.

DPP sold so many copies because those songs are written for her voice. It's a good album and she's a good singer but she can't sing most of the old songs. However, the Euro 2007 dates were like an experiment, I saw them in Nov 2007 in CA and was scared to death after seeing these vids on You Tube but actually they were great live! That said they cut the set down to only 3 old songs...

Did you hear Tarja sing this on End of an Era? Good lord... she is rarely in tune and her vibrato extends from over a full half step on each side of the note. She also delays resolutions of phrases so that she can be the center of attention and stand out, and sacrifices the music as a whole to boost her own ego.
It's really no surprise they fired her right then and there after that concert. I mean, I would've just on the basis of her singing, let alone her attitude.
