I love animation. It's something I'm studying and wanting to major in, and I have to say I absolutely adore and love Russian animation, ever since I discovered it about 1-2 years ago. It along with Japanese, French, etc. I wish American would create beautiful pieces like these like it used to. :(

It's amazing in its own way - the fact that it is not 3d, yet so well-drawn and so detailed - the fire and the shadows and the visual effects. I wonder what software they're using. It must be awfully hard to do that - not like in 3d where you have a set model, that can be easily rigged and the built-in physics engine that does all the lighting and particle things for you...

People, does anyone know what they are talking about? Is anyone talking based on facts rather than a biased opinion? Because it doesn't seem like it. Every single country has it's reasons to make their animations that way. I may not like everything I see, but as someone who is studying animation I get to learn their reasons and I respect it for that. So anyone who is insulting another country's animation, mainly Japan's, should dig a little deeper before saying something stupid.

Eastern bloc animators will, in my opinion, always be the best. Eastern European countries have this uncanny ability to tell a story simply and in a short amount of time, and tell it well.

Russian animation is all about color. I love it! They really saturate their hues, even the mainstream stuff from the Soviet era was like a Kandinsky painting. But, yes, like the description said, it doesn't hold back on violence if it must be used.

Actually most animes have a story, and many have morals. Americans may not have invented animation, but they sure are the ones who have brought it up, thanks to Walt Disney, and they like it or not, are the ones who made it what it is.

Personally, people always give America crap; I've noticed this. I've lived in America for some years now, and although not everyone is amazing, on the whole, they are really nice, and completely different from how movies and whatnot portray them.

Russian does have a lot of good animations, but I wont call anime and the american work for bad either.

They're different animations with different meanings.

The russian seems to be more serious.

Japanese are simple with lot of fantasy stories.

American are often just for fun.

They're all beautiful in their own way, but of course, there exists crappy animations too...

I love Russian animation as well, but you are insulting the majority of Japanese productions since I'm sure you have only been watching many shojou anime and hentai, hence your remarks.

You should try watching studio Ghilbli's works of art like Princess Mononoke, also Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade and Only Yesterday.
