I thought The Mist started quite bad. The writing was a bit tacky, the acting hammy, but slowly it became better. The ending is perfect and much better than the original story. One of the great endings of the last decade.
I would definitely agree with all of you about 30 Days of Night, except I think two stronger leads than Hartnett and George could have offset somed of the script issues.
By the way the outsiders are not all african american, just one is. The other african americans are from the town, but join in with the outsider to leave. Hmmmm I wonder why?
haha don't be to hard on harnett. i mean i enjoyed the faculty....for what it was. and black hawk down is probably my favorite war film made to date. lol great episode good to see a modern episode once in a while
@maxpayne232 >> Yeah, I'll agree. But Darabont has done better jobs with those similar characters just by making them three dimensional. That's my biggest problem with Harden's part: just wayyyyy too one dimensional and I cheered when she died. Gay Harden's done better performances as well. But even so, outta all three, The Mist is the best one out of these picks.
Now, we're talkin! Ok, the mean-spirited violence in requiem wasn't worth the story. The prredalien impregnated hosts the way he did was because they had no time for eggs. Agree with Mike: gotta go to their homeworld; not bring'em here. Ripley DIED to prevent that, ferpetesakes.
30 Days was sh*te. Good premise ruined by overacting and terrible editing. The overhead shot of the whole town getting bloodied was the best moment.
They couldn't wait cuz the girls were stuck under a burning truck,no?
Nice Idea for the show, but , to be honest, what is the point of including Requiem? It seems like a waste of time to discuss such an obviously terrible movie!?
@saberous33 We all love the Alien series, so gotta discuss it. I didn't think the movie was good, but got to admire the high level of gore and violence. It's just a shame the script wasn't better. Hopefully, Ridley Scott's relaunch of Alien will be better.
@cinefiles Fair enough, although I wouldn't exactly use the term admire in reference to anything about 'Requiem' including the gore/violence. But I am also an Alien fan for life and am with you in hoping the reboot will be cool. I'm not holding my breath though...
I hate the ending of the mist also, but I really love the shots of the monsters near the end. Very Lovecraftian - so awesome! Wanna check it out in B&W.
Oh and if you wanna see a movie that's even worse with it's lighting, check out The Relic, I dig the movie but holy shit, it's hard as fuck to see anything in that movie.
@ZombiesAteMyArm I like The Relic, but agree with you. When I got the DVD I thought it was a bad transfer. I then got the bluray and then saw it was indeed the way the movie was shot. I like the film a lot, but I think Hyams in trying to hide the creature, shot it way too dark.
Great show, pretty much agree with what everyone said. Loved the ending to The Mist though and, while far from perfect, both AVP: Requiem and 30 Days of Night were fun and entertaining.
Edwin read the Mist novella in the early 80s before it was published in the Skeleton Crew collection in '85? Sure you weren't busy like getting born and stuff? lol great novella and movie though btw i personally agree with edwin and mike in regards to the marsha gaye harding character; religious fantacism run amok is not at all far-fetched especially in a high-stress environment.
I do remember thinking that in the theater on AVP:Requiem that they took the ending of Return of the Living Dead. I must admit I liked the brutality of it and creatures but the characters and lighting totally ruin what enjoyment could have come from this movie.
AVP: Requiem ticked me off even more than Alien 3, apart from the Predator planet.
I liked the Mist too, although I mentioned in the Discussion Board that the effects, especially the tentacle attack, were badly done. Edwin hit it on the nose with the comment on the coloring.
I loved The Mist, haven't had the chance to watch it in black and white yet though. The ending was a little too much but I think that's why Darabont struggled to get funding as he refused to change the ending. 30 days of night had its moments, but the ending was unnecessary. I haven't seen Aliens Vs Predator: Requiem yet, but the first one was poor, I'm keeping tabs on this new prequel by Ridley Scott, hopefully it will get the franchise back on track. Great show as usual guys.
You know they're releasing 30 Days of Night straight to DVD sequel in October?
AvP2 is an interesting failure. They use the word requiem probably because when two top alien killers come to Earth, it's basically the end of the world.
@ParadoxProductions1 Not that old, but it's a show from a little while back. We're trying to upload a lot of the older episodes before we get to the new ones as we don't want to sit on them forever.
Thanks guys really enjoyed the upload. Has edwin made any leeway on the stooges documentary? Also I thought it was kind of funny that the sequel 'dark days' is a coming soon to dvd and blueray release.
@oldmanwhithers Still waiting on the results, but I'm hopeful that I'll win. I'll keep you posted and upload my thoughts on the show if I make it. Again, thanks for everyone who supported me.

I liked The Mist up until the stupid ending.

Frank Darabont was under major pressure from the studio to give it a happy ending and credit goes to him for sticking to his principals!!!

My biggest problem with the mist was Marcia Gay Harden. Not her performance but her character. i wanted her to die so badly, i really hated her.
And Darabont does that in most of his movies, manipulating the viewer into hating a certain character. so that was my biggest problem with the film.
I have yet to see it in b/w but i want to now. Great episode guys.
