To all those complaining about her being a mezzo soprano and about the lyric changes:

1. The lyrics are from the solo book, written Stephen Schwartz. I should know, my choir has the book and performed this exact version.

2. Elphaba, as a part, is written for a mezzo soprano. If you check on Wikipedia and even Stephen Schwartz's website it will tell you that.

So, I don't think this is that bad. Not the best, but I don't mind it. :)

2. She's mezzo soprano.

3. Stop with that "Idina Menzel is better". Maya just sings it in her own way.

4. For those who think that a mezzo soprano shouldn't sing this song - Roberta Valentini, who's performing Elphaba in Germany, is also mezzo soprano!

5. Take a look in the official songbook. There are the lyrics for the solo version.

Also erstens: Sie interpretiert das Stück ganz anders, es ist außerdem KEINE Musicalfassung, es ist jediglich ein Auszug!

Zweitens: Raussschmettern mit der Bruststimme *kopf schüttel* oder auch "belting" genannt. Nein, das muss man so nich machen. Es ist keine Orginaltonart und etwas höher von der transposition. Also...machs halt fei besser und halt mal schön die klappe!

Ich erinnere mich dass sie das Lied auch in ihren Solo-Shows gesungen hat. Damals war Wicked noch ganz neu und keiner von uns kannte das Lied. Bei ihr hab ichs zum ersten mal gehört. Danke, Maya!!

Actually. Did you know the Ahhhhh has lyrical meaning at all. It just kind of ends the song with a bang. Gets the listener all energized and excited about the music. So really the Ahhhhh is pointless...

The "ahh" at the end was added because they didn't want to do another "bring me down" as an end for the song. The "ahh" is Elphaba's emotional yell, or perhaps a battle cry. It's the climax of the song.

I'm pretty sure the climax is when she takes off from the stage, the intense vamp up to the "so if you care to find me" verse. IF you look at most of the songs from wicked, Stephen Schwartz ended them with a large chorded bang, NOMTW, TWAI, NGD, DG, all big endings....doesn't make it the climax.

This is Maya Hakvoort, a Dutch musical actor who has been very succesfull in Austria. She played Elisabeth in the Austrian musical "Elisabeth", for example.
