The range on the shotgun is fine. Shotguns in video games have terrible range, but in real life, people HUNT with them. I can understand if you mean that IN THIS GAME they have a much closer range, but honestly if you were going to complain about that shot, I'd complain about how it KNOCKED HIM OFF HIS FEET, which is completely unrealistic.
