  • Explosively formed penetrators have never looked so sexy!

  • here in greece ,we have a very effective an modern also artillery! and our moto for artillery guns is '' power via knowlenge" or in greek ΙΣΧΥΣ ΔΙΑ ΤΗΣ ΓΝΩΣΕΩΣ!

ARTILLERY IS THE MOTHER OF THE MILITARY WEAPONS!

  • Wonder how many of these the rebels in libya got, for um, testing, humanitarianly?

  • Bofors is absolutely my favourite weapon manufacturer.

  • @randomkille why ?

  • Comment removed

  • More proof that Artillery is a long way from dying.

  • But too expensive

  • @leqio many times cheaper than a tank

  • THINK WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THAT WARHEAD HITS AMMO AND FUEL.

  • Man! I've seen Rube Goldberg devices that are less complicated in its operation than this 155 BONUS shell.

  • 05:50 it´s not copper,which metal is it ?

  • 130 mm penetration? is that a joke? thats like trying to bust through a safe with a chisel. even the top armor of the t-90 would shrug this off like nothing.

  • @rawheas I must correct you here.

Top armour of tanks is much weaker - 130mm of penetration is easily enough to get through it. Plus, like the bloke says - spalling and similar effects. You don't always need to penetrate armour to get a kill.

  • @BazilRat except its not 130 mm, thats bs, the T90 was specifically designed to have a strong top, since so many modern weapons try to go through like this. for this reason it uses an auto loader, so that there is no need to have a person in the top of a tank and thus it can pack way more top armour in. 130mm is not enough to get a kill on a modern tank, its a joke.

  • @rawheas Even if you dont get a kill with the first direct hit, almost all rounds fired hits. Theres a Swedish saying: Nära skjuter ingen hare = Close won't shoot the rabbit, but if you actually just hit the rabbit time after time, thats good enough

  • Swedish hi tech! =)

    7:11Bofors 155 BONUSGod I LOVE this shit.ted

  • God I LOVE this shit.

Only thing I hate is that there is NO possible way for modern video games to come even close to simulating anything close to reality. As a potential programmer of near-future video games, I'm kind of... well, distraught. I can't simulate this with today's computers. Today's *submunitions* are already smarter than the usual enemy AI!!!! What am I supposed to do!?!?

  • Smart artillery is amazing, almost as good as a guided missile. Although alot cheaper to make than missles I imagine.

  • Is this capable of piercing a LEO?

  • @EpifanioOchra probably not...

  • @EpifanioOchra Yes it is.

  • @EpifanioOchra Most certainly

  • swedish techology rules

  • Just don't be inside the tank when that thing rained down on ya....lmao

  • If I order right now, what else do I get for bonus....?

  • @SirRetku The thrill of killing someone from a safe distance.

  • how the hell does that sensor survive the launch??!!

  • We like our enemys so much that they disserve a bonus. =)

  • Quick question: Does the shape charge get formed in mid-air and the molten cooper travel several meters down? How can that be so accurate?

  • Do you want me to put a snail on your eye?

  • just launch a rocket from Washington and kill anything that move in Afghanistan, isn't faster ?

  • imagine the infrared detector going wrong and hitting something which it's not supposed to hit at all, like a mass of civilian cars, etc.

those kind of weapons are amazing on the one hand, imo, but on the other hand it's pure madness to develop such stuff.

  • @FabianBajorat Well, did you watch the video? It's munition that actually recognises different forms of vehicles ^^

  • holy shit lol I didnt know we had stuff like this. I bet hte insurgents would love it :p

  • Я всё придумал))

  • the german army gets something similar with parachute

  • Atleast not modern tanks, now u only need to fight countries with crappy old russian tanks.

  • As long as there are tanks people will want to have the ability to fight it. I don't believe we will see a post WW1 type disarmament faze for a long time yet.

  • @Chronobeanz The Swedish AT-4 sells still quite good and the need of anti-tank system might not be as necessery now a days but they are still needed, look at the invasion of Iraq!

  • @Chronobeanz exactly.... the modern battlefield is much different..... the enemy no longer wears uniforms.... your friends look like ur enemys and your enemys look like your friends.... armor is rare and you barly battle face to face..... its all hit and run behind the scenes pussy shit

  • So you say there is no ground-war anymore ?

Tanks are still an important and reliable force !!

  • @HionShrooms if your enemy is fissible

    yes

tanks are also huge driving targets for IED's air strikes RPG's and anti tank mines

these weapons improve to im pritty sure a modern country would have less trouble dissabling a abrham tank then a third world countrty with ww2 and 1 weapons

  • Katyushas would move a lot of dirt or kill a lot of civilians. This would actually hit the vehicles.

  • agreed

  • @fritzgryphon don't bullshit to Katyushas. These, like you said, katyushas(more precisely MLRS Smerch) have similar armanent since 1994 in Russia. And for 5 pieces in cluster, and for 12 barrels.

  • it looks like they can make one hundred of those shells a month :P

they must be very cheap, too :P

  • thy still cost only a fraction of what a tank costs and the time to build. so of this round hits its target half of the time.you still only spend a fraction of what it would cost to counter them with your own heavy tanks

  • leve BOFORS ta mig fan!! :P

    mvh fran Tenerife

  • Impressive

  • But those targets were stationary. Does it work against moving targets equally well?

  • 0:14 yes it is designed for stationary and moving targets.

  • nice, has it every been used in war zones anywhere in the world?

  • I don't think so.

However the joint Swedish/American Excalibur artillery shell has been used in Iraq.

It is a GPS guided Artillery munition that has pinpoint accuracy.

    Damn impressive.

Just search for Excalibur here on the tube.

  • Yeah...and then we have the Special forces who takes those out...

  • There are only two laser systems functioning to date. One has to be carried by a 747 and the other is the size of a small house. That is why IDF refused the system, it would be a tempting target... But yes, laser defense system is the future, the far, far away future...

  • What will happen if they don't find any "correct" target?

Will it land on the ground ready to be found by kids later or shoot a random hole in the ground?

  • I would assume that if the wide image detector finds no suitable tank targets it will target a secondary class of targets that has a wider range allowed for the target parameters.

If it finds no targets at all it will most likely detonate at a set altitude above the ground. And perhaps it might even self-destruct in such a way that the charge is directed away from the ground completely.

  • It depends on the programed fuse. You can still fire it as a standard 155cm artillery "Area effect" round if you need to, but the main thing about this round, is that it gives you a "Battlefield target selection option"

    Länge leve A4!!

  • They should make another season of Future Weapons and put this on one of the episodes.

  • A Sweet Swedish present from above!

    5 stars video!

  • swedish/french for truth

  • ups, my mistake!

  • I now Sweden is good at designing things, but what exactly has France contributed with. Perhaps money?

  • Garlic, snails and bad smelly cheese

  • Agreed

  • @SgtDrDeath Want some rotten herring and knäckebröd with that?

  • France produces the Electronic Optical Unit (also called EOU in this video) mounted in each submunition.

It contains the IR transmitter and receiver, and the electronic required for images processing.

  • Yes, it looks like BAE have a hand in it...

  • @stayinmove u know its only swedish?

  • @stayinmove
