Well that's nice Premier Bligh, so how about you do something about reforming Queensland's ARCHAIC abortion laws, which have not been reformed since the 19th century?
@anaemia Certainly at least one person here is a "Labor Party Apologist". Until the last decade I used to vote Labor, but now I always vote for the Greens because they have strong proven moral principles which include equal rights and treatment for gay people. Labor don't live up to their own policy commitments - one of which is to enact a truly equal age of consent in Queensland.
Thank you. It is nice to see an incumbent political leader actually leading. Please don't underestimate the positive impact even a symbolic measure such as this will indeed have on people at risk. Now if only we could legalise marriage.
Premier Anna Bligh is so blatantly hypocritical in regard to her Government's treatment of same sex attracted youth. She refuses to allow them the dignity and protection inherent in there being an equal age of consent for them on par with their peers. The current law makes 16 and 17 year old gay and bi males potential criminals - and validates any bully who wants to harass same sex attracted youth. It will get better in Qld when our Government finally makes all youth truly equal under the law.
Sorry - to me, it just comes across as ticking a box on a media campaign. Not genuine, not helpful. IGBP should be a genuine message of hope to struggling teenagers (especially gay ones) that it gets better, preferably from people for whom it HAS gotten better. Anna doesn't mention the future at all! (Go ahead! Listen again!) There's no personal experience here, no emotion - just a bit of advice, call Kids Help Line (hopefully THEY will remember to tell you that it does, in fact, get better.)
Thanks, Premier Bligh!

You're all talk unless you raise the issue of equal age of consent. You have the mother figure down pat but some real action would be nice.

@anaemia to suggest that the dislikes must be liberal supporters is a disgusting presumption. Shame on you for that useless statement.

2 people are Liberal Party stooges who would rather see gay people feel alienated than a Labor Premier speaking out in their defense.

This is wonderful Anna Bligh. Well done. What a great example you set for all of the other politicians who seem to be lacking a social conscience.
Congratulations!!!

Thank you, Premier! We need more Australian politicians and public figures to get involved in protecting the most vulnerable members of our society.
