I <3 Roy Rogers!! :) And one of my absolute favorite hero fiddle players, Hugh Farr, is playing one of my favorite tunes of his I'm TRYING to learn, Cajon Stomp! :)
This was a pleasure to watch and listen to and yes it did make you feel happy, just loved it when Trigger said his hello :) and dancing and giving his master a kiss...now where have I seen that before? ;) xx
@CowboyandtheSenorita have you ever been to duck run? thats where is boyhood home is. he lived in Scioto county too. because they honor him every year.
@angiecopus One year we would love to go. We have looked into going, but something always comes up to delay the trip. Can't wait to go one year, though!
He was a man of many talents--I saw him shoot trap as a guest--he was very elderly at the time, but with a borrowed gun and no practice he stood up and shot a terriffic score, right in with the very best that day. He was an excellent businessman, and I never heard a hint of a scandal or any impropriety EVER! He was a true hero to me up to this day. He had an excellent voice and was overlooked as a front line vocalist IMO. He was an avid motorcyclist as well.
@moll2kate Actually, this is "Little Trigger". Roy had a second horse that actually made all the public appearences as "Trigger" and who did most of the tricks in the movies. Little Trigger was an extremely smart horse and was trained to do over a hundred different tricks. Anytime in a Roy movie if Trigger is dancing or something, that is Little Trigger. "Son of Paleface" is all Little Trigger. Sleeping in the bed with Bob Hope included!
It wasn't publicized that there was Little Trigger. Roy didn't want to confuse the fans. Roy puchased Little Trigger because, in the early days, on a personal appearence a fan cut off Trigger's tail. So Trigger had to wear a fake tail for over a year until his grew back to full length. Also, it was tiring for Trigger to do all the personal appearences and make all the movies, so Roy got a "double". Little Trigger. Trigger JR replaced Little Trigger when he got old. Hope this helps!
@CowboyandtheSenorita I love all this "inside information". I remember when they had Trigger himself "stuffed" in the Roy Rogers and Dale Evans Museum in Victorville, California. A statue of Trigger was outside.
@recovering16 Glad you liked it! I like inside info too. ;o) I wish we had been able to see the museum. We were sooooooo sad when they closed it. End of an era. It doesn't get better than Roy and Dale!
@decoycarver17 He was the best singing cowboy. And Dale was very good looking- and could really sing, as well. I watched their show every Saturday. I really miss Roy and Dale.
@bloodngutspatriot I saw this comment last night having never seen the commercial and didn't think anything of it. Today, I saw the commercial and had to say I saw it. It was as Charles Barkley would say, TRBL!!!
Oooooh, so GOOD. My favorite part is Trigger's dancing at the end. He was an amazing horse, just amazing. And Roy's pretty amazing, too! My other favorite part about this clip is you can see some of the original Sons of the Pioneers, including my song-writing hero, Bob Nolan. Although he didn't write this song, he wrote most of their wonderful, wonderful songs. He was so handsome, I don't understand why he didn't become a star in his own right.
I'm twelve and I wish that more people my age could appreciate old cowboy movies and old movies in general! Roy Rogers is my favorite cowboy ever and he always will be. Plus I really love this song :)
Trigger's first big movie was "The Adventures of Robin Hood" where he was Maid Marian's horse. Olivia de Havilland of course was Maid Marian and Errol Flynn was Robin Hood.
@nancyfloressantos True.. Roy Rogers did his bit for the war effort.. Pat Brady & Lloyd Perryman, two members of The Sons Of The Pioneers', were already serving in the armed forces..
Found it! Bless you for letting us see Roy and Trigger again. I never miss this movie, just so I can hear him sing this highly unusual song by Cole Porter. That horse -- was supernatural. To BeaverCreekHome, I'd bet you'd like John Denver's singing. Western, not country. 'tho there's nothing wrong with country...Happy Day to you all. 6/25/10
What memories! I was a cowgirl back then and my bike was my horse!

My boyhood hero. I think he was from Ohio and spent part of his youth living on a houseboat with his parents. A great voice.

@vs800rider Yes, he was from Ohio. Actually, the house that he was born in stood where third base of the baseball stadium in Cincinatti is now!

@Dogwarrior They had "artistic" differences and Trigger insisted his contract be sold to Roy Rogers. The rest is history
