so boring. i waited 4 minutes to realize these guys can't write good synth music. at the 6 minute point the only thing i liked was the numbers in the lower right hand corner. what a waste of 12 monotribes.
wicked, sick of people talking down these devices. they cost 199.99, you seriously are not going to find a analog drum/synth even close that quality for that price.
It seems like every one judges it alone, how many of you are literally musicians and literally only use 1 instrument. stop being so critical because i highly doubt you do just own 1 single instrument.
There are endless possibilities and variations of how it can be used. if it was used in one way some didnt prefer, no need to bash..
the ending sounds nice but i think the monotribe is a bit limited looking at my analog collection and possibilities. if this had like the power of 6 monotribes in 1 box i would consider but just 1 plastic box with some analog sounds nahhh. it's good that korg finally slowly getting into analog again but for me it's too slow. look at DSI with his products.. come on korg..hit me with that 100% analog vco MS2000 style synth
@devmiles i bought one of these to mod and resell. its actually a metal case and its really durable. price is a little high for how limited it is though.think korg is trying to compete in analog since all the circuit benders are making some good money off the market
@devmiles seriously? you clearly do not own one, otherwise you would know its capabilities sadly exceed what they were showing. Ill admit its drum part is not specifically the best but for its price, its worth every penny. Its actually a very solid built machine plastic or not.
what disturbed me the most about this comment is you act like you know analog, yet as far as you can go back is the MS2000. The MS10, MS20 and Korg 770 are what you should be mentioning.
@devmiles also should be noted the expandable options of this device let alone their choice to release the monotribes schematics so people can modify them to their own tastes as well as even improve on its it design or even add non existing features. that alone for only 199.99 is absolutely beautiful.
you really shouldnt descredit it so much, i can understand if you already own roland tb303's or 808's but many dont.
for what it is and the effects you can talor the sound with, its amazing.
Very nice near the end. It took a bit longer than I would have wanted to get started. That being said it, it turns into something very pleasant and crunchy. Nice work!

awful demo A gimmick they didnt manage to pull of because no one can make any music. Why is it almost every single analog synth is demoed on YT as if it were the music for a late 60's B space movie (and not in a good way)
And why korg do you put the three most boring drums sounds ever known to man on your machine. That TR606/808 style sounds are not used anything like the myth suggests. Im sick to death pf hearing those drum sounds on every sample pack, drum machine....but oh, rarely on record
Myth, total and utter myth. Sure the 808 has been used in Hip Hop but nowhere near as much as you think it has been. Take DJ shadow for example (his early stuff) show me a single 808 sound in any of his tunes. Even M+M barely used that sound.
Now, the point is just because you say its used in X this or that, does that really mean you have to follow the sheep and be like everyone else?
Anyway, this isnt really 808ish, I was speaking in general not specifically this box.
@harrymerchant456 It was extremely popular in mainstream hip hop and EDM in the 80s. Shadow's earliest releases were around 92' and 90s instrumental hip hop doesn't usually include an 808 anyways. If you haven't heard it at least 100 times then you're either listening to the wrong period and genre of music or don't know what an 808 is or the reason why it's important.
Of course it was used then becasue there were few drum machines going around. But your backtracking and blurring my point which is the 808 was never as popular as people say it was. During the 90's it was barely used. During the mid 2000's the sound started to become popular when minimal hit, but even then most EM musicians would just use a sample of an 808 style kik which may not have been an 808 kik anyway.
The legend of the machine is completely off the scale.
@harrymerchant456 I never backtracked, you keep talking about the 90s, the 808 came out in 1983 and was popular up until the early 90s. Your timeline is messed up.
The drum sounds coaxed from the analog circuitry was intended to reproduce the sound of a real kit. Of course its a billion miles away from that. When mass sampling hit in 84 (ish) the 808 was practically ditched by everyone. 1990 saw it come back for year with the acid thing. it had a resurgence over the past few years. Not in usage, but hype.Young producers have been brainwashed in to believing the thing is responsible for all EDM
@harrymerchant456 Yes you did. Sampling wasn't an *essential* technique in hip-hop production until 86' with Rick Rubin. ONE year of acid? Newbuild came out in 88'. Electro, Chicago house, Detroit techno, and acid house were huge movements which utilized the 808. Yellow Magic Orchestra, Afrika Bambaataa, 808 State, Aphex Twin, B12, Beastie Boys, A Guy Called Gerald, The KLF, The Future Sound of London, maaany more. It wasn't a commercial success for Roland, but it was used a BUNCH in 87-91.
Sampling has always been a massive part of hip Hop. Why do you insist on trying to rewrite history. Its so easy for you to sit there and drop names of acts who have used it. But in the grand context of the EDM scene its usage has definitely not been as you imagine it has. I could rattle off scores of EDM artists who have never ever used it and that includes hip hop artists. Not everyone loved the 808.
We will just agree to disagree. This is my last comment on the subject
@harrymerchant456 No it hasn't, you consistently ignore the dates I give. There are over 50 subgenres of EDM, I provided 3 very prominent ones which used the 808 very much and only a 1/4 of the artists who used it. It was used AT A CERTAIN TIME, which I stated. The fact that someone else doesn't use it has nothing to do with this. The logical fallacies behind your argument only show that you're continuing with nothing to show. Go back and actually listen to some 87-91 EDM that I cited. Thanks.
It might have been a good idea to have chosen a key and everyone stuck with it. All the notes were clashing, plus there was not groove whatsoever. Worst jam session ever.
This video is an excellent example that it does not matter how much you have, it's how you use it. To remake what they have done here, it would cost roughly $3000.
@Dulnlop chuck norris doesn't own a monotribe. he owns a notribe because it doesn't exist and still makes the most beautiful sounds any person could ever hope to hear, but it's all his...
@wakadorinoamazushow What I really wanna see on the electribes is better quality effects, i think the amount is fine for the cost, but more useful filters and the reverb on the electribes is awful.
I love what korg are doing at the moment with all the separate bits, you can get what you want and need and they're all performance orientated.
@H4NDCRAFTED The thing is that DSP chips have improved in power to cost ratio so much since the original ESX/EMX releases that having a couple of FX per part would be easy nowadays. If they want to cut cost they should remove the tubes and put the controls for a digital mastering compressor there instead. Also more assignable lfos wouldnt go amiss on the electribes either.
@aikighost The ESX is my perhaps favorite drum machine, and I have played it at many live shows. (See videos) For years, I have wished for an upgrade / alternate model with no tubes that runs on convenient / portable battery power! ( I like the tubes, but they draw too much power - the same sort of sound can be generated by using outboard tube gear when it is needed.) I now also have a new Microsampler, but the playing style is very different.
What I really want from Korg is a new Electribe with a feature list that befits 2011.
Radias/R3 synth engine, Sampling, Sample Layering and USB sample Import lots more FX with 2 or 3 per slot, Kaoss pad integrated for real time FX manipulations and the same great old school X0X style sequencing.
Now that would be something genuinely interesting.
@aikighost I agree but they should still keep them as separate units so ppl can afford them and mix and match still, but they should update with better effects or reverb at least. and add a full adsr for filter and amp. Kaoss intergration is ok but you can get that separately anyway now you have the quad.
@ or 3 fx per part ? that would make the machine very expensive and loose the whole premise of the series, you might as well buy one of thier workstations if you want that ?
@Gorpisnorb seen as the video is by KORGINC i would imagine these people work for korg. So that's why they have 12 monotribes. Not because they're rich.
I'd like to have a Monotribe but it's seriously far too expensive for what it is.

H4NDCRAFTED 8 months ago
@H4NDCRAFTED The thing is that DSP chips have improved in power to cost ratio so much since the original ESX/EMX releases that having a couple of FX per part would be easy nowadays. If they want to cut cost they should remove the tubes and put the controls for a digital mastering compressor there instead. Also more assignable lfos wouldnt go amiss on the electribes either.
aikighost 8 months ago

Now that would be something genuinely interesting.
aikighost 8 months ago
@aikighost I agree but they should still keep them as separate units so ppl can afford them and mix and match still, but they should update with better effects or reverb at least. and add a full adsr for filter and amp. Kaoss intergration is ok but you can get that separately anyway now you have the quad.
@ or 3 fx per part ? that would make the machine very expensive and loose the whole premise of the series, you might as well buy one of thier workstations if you want that ?

@Gorpisnorb seen as the video is by KORGINC i would imagine these people work for korg. So that's why they have 12 monotribes. Not because they're rich.

yall must be rich..nerds

12 machines , you guys serious.
jackstrikergraphics 8 months ago
they should stop using high frequencies, it's a torture if they start playing high pitched notes :P
