It was indeed a tough choice, especially after (spoiler) becoming a kingslayer myself in the 2nd act. I still had in mind that Letho ruined Geralt's reputation and so could've get him killed. Luckily Geralt escaped from the hands of his Temerian opressors but on the way to find a kingslayer he still fought bounty hunters. Was there any other way to clear his name than to kill Letho? With Roche being there as a witness - yes.
@AlecFortescue You know, if you let Letho free. He will stay lapdog of Emperor, ready on his signal. And now, that emperor is invading north, there will be another conflict with Geralt.
So I believe, his death is the canon ending. It makes perfect sense from Geralts POV.
@OkurkaBinLadin Reason why this game is so good it's because it's not canon at all, merely with the books, but the games follow it's own path, and as a Witcher, Geralt SHOULD spare Letho, he took care of Yennefer and helped Geralt chase the Wild Hunt, but it's still his job to kill the Kingslayers.
Btw, there really isn't a canon ending anyway, you will most likely just have to import your savegame for the next Witcher, considering the amount of choices you make in this one.
I killed him. This was the hardest choose of the whole game. First time I though: he is my brother of blood, he is the witcher, and I can't kill him because Witchers are a dying breed. But on other hand: he was the king slayer, and his thoughts were directed only on his own pleasures, not for people. And so he died.
Honestly, I wanted to let Letho go; since he was just another witcher being exploited and used, but it'd be lame without a final boss fight. Also I didn't like the fact that he kept saying if he and Geralt fought, that he would win.
Anyone here who thinks betrayed by the ending, cuz it did not fulfill your f*ing needs, screw you, what? you wanted the game to end here? you wanted all the story to be done with so we can move to another franchise? NO! fuck you, let them make a third one and continue the story, not finishing it in 4 chapters.
@Chester1004 Letho despite all he is to your former self and despite him sparing you.. He was a Nilfgaardian Assassin that killed many of the Northern Kings. His assassination of Foltest framed you and caused you to be hunted when you were JUST about to enter a normal life with Triss. Plus he just Orphaned two children and paved a way for a Nilfgaardian invasion of the Northern Kingdoms, which means everyone you knew *In both games* would be in danger of persecution and death. I killed him.
i choose this ending to really enjoyed this game(loved the reference to the books). although i enjoyed the witcher 1 more(just of the uniqueness and combat system). i loved the pacing and the way the story unfolded in the witcher 2. the questions you had at the end of the witcher 1 lead to these answers in the second game with led to more questions to deepen the story really really interesting. the game also forces you to make tough decisions as well.
Other than the plot line, this game is fundamentally broken and underdeveloped. I was so dissapointed in the last level. They basically just hand you the armor sets you need in the end (the gargoyle quests were easy). And even if you dont get the best armor its still a piece of cake. Fighting letho is nothing compared the first fight. I had him down in less than 2 minutes. Left alot to be desired. Not worth 60 bucks IMO. Too linear, and drink pots while meditating?? Really??
@uio223 LOL I paid $40.00, which is what they should have charged to begin with. This game is hardly worth $60 with all the pointless features it has.
@vidfreak56 This game is totally worth every penny of the $60, most of todays games with this pricetag will get you around 8 hours of gameplay while Witcher 2 is easily over 20 hours, if not 40 if you play through the other possible scenario.
@BoboCarsi LOL but 20-40 hours of what is the question. Youll spend that amount of time doing very useless things that amount to time filling and not rpging.
@BoboCarsi LOL you thought u were rpging. If you look at what you really did...the so called rpg elements were just glorified time fillers. Linear quest lines where you're basically handed the locations, and you dont have to read the journal anymore (i didnt once). Few armor pieces (rare, magical? meaningless) that were just basically handed to you with little to no work. An economic system that didnt work. No way to farm for anything. Bad minigames. Glorified 3rd person action title.
Iorveth dies if you decide to go and save Triss first, and then send him to break Filippa out of the dungeon because Filippa kills him. On the other hand if you take Filippa with you first, Iorveth helps you control Filippa and open the chest to the counter spell to free the dragon from Filippa's control, he goes on to the mages meeting and lives.
@PainRocks well it depends on what choices you make afterward too...there are 16 different endings too, and as I found out from my second time playing it, there a four different beginnings.
I like The Witcher 1 endings a lot better, at least they left you with an ending story with narration of what happened to all the factions and the witcher.
I though about my promise to Roche, i had to kill the king slayer. Also that that Letho was used doesnt change the fact that he wasnt a good person(unlike geralt ofc ;d).
@NFVGames I think there'll be more, as a "base" - A. Sapkowski's prose, I mean series of books "Wiedźmin" ("The Witcher") - haven't been used yet from cover to cover <- there's a lot of plot of "Wiedźmin" books left to use to create games. By the way, A. Sapkowski's series "Wiedźmin" is fnished now. And it's worth to read it.
Checked in Internet. Here someone tells something about the English version: sffchronicles.co.uk/forum/45833-the -witcher- saga-by-adrzej- sapkowski.html [remove spaces] The saga was released, but I can't tell you where you could buy it.
I liked Foltest but after all I saw Letho just a tool used by others and I felt sorry for him. His also a witcher so I let him go. I don`t need to fight super combat at the end of every game. This ending was good enough for me :)
I have the same thoughts with one exception. They really had to show some ending cutscene that tells us what happens next or at least to summarize that we have accomplished.
In many ways this game has bad design. From a cuscene followed immediately by a major battle without ability to save before that to bad inventory management and inability to drop the unneeded quest items, which at the best case should have disappeared from the inventory once they are no more needed.
Letho wasn't used by others, he was hired by the emperor to kill kings in order to give witchers equal rights to others. They were outcasts and barred from some towns. If Letho killed the kings the emperor would help that cause and aid Letho's witcher academy (can't remember the name). Letho used Ioverth and the sorcesses and betrayed them both. I'll be honest, the only reason I killed him was because I felt I owed it to Roche. Not the first time Geralt has killed another witcher.

You kidding me?
Did any of you ever read any Witcher novels?
Geralt and Letho were actualy huge bros. before he got amnesia.
Why would you kill him anyway:
- he spared you when you fought him in the elven ruins
- if you decide to NOT save Triss in chapter 3 Letho will risk his life and save her from Nilfgardians
- Letho never wanted Geralt to be accused as the Foltest killer, the problem was Geralt was at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Besides, who wants a cliched boss fight right at the end of the game?? I was suffering from 'Blockbuster Fatigue' by that stage anyway...
Oh well, i guess i'll just go back to saving innocent subjects then looting their homes afterwards all over again...
This game's very addictive. Pretty amazing for a non-open world RPG...
