  • @LouieboyXOXO1

    green day is crap

  • The 8 people are not proud and did not flip their fingers to the king of England!

  • This song is true look what we have become especially the beginning of this year

  • I think it's hilarious, nuff said.

  • So true, so so very true.

  • This should be our national anthem, just imagine blaring this shit when we win at the olympics

  • pussy shit

  • @brianc33921 Ha, you're calling this stuff pussy? Look at you, favouriting Godsmack videos and videos how to get buff. Tart.

  • @MrDismemberment lol ok bro

  • @brianc33921 Takes one to know one.

  • i showed some of these lyrics to a total america has never made a mistake person a real jackass

    guess what :3

i changed him with this song or the descendants did

  • Youtube fights. punk rock.

  • @XxRapiDaSHxX congratulations for making yourself look like an idiot... hes talking about when America declared independence, England had a king back then retard.

  • anyone notice they said the king of england? they must really be stupid americans, because england doesnt have a king :D

  • @XxRapiDaSHxX durr hurr

  • @XxRapiDaSHxX Back during the days of the American revolutionary war they did actually.

  • I don't know what everyone is talking about. Right now I really don't give a shit about Green Day or Blink 182. Right now I'm listening to a kick ass song by the Descendents. Bands are bands... listen to the ones you like and fuck the rest.

  • greenday sucks blows and swallows. this kinda reminds me of bad religion tho

  • @chickenuggets63 Sounding similar to Bad Religion isn't a bad thing. But, they don't really sound like them. The Descendents sound like the Descendents.

  • @chickenuggets63 I was thinking the same thing! also, it started playing this on my bad religion station on Pandora.

  • @carguy12345678910 Greenday tries to sound EXACTLY like them. Thats not influence.

  • @StraightOutaPortland Greenday sound nothing like the Descendents. Would you really be like, 'ohhh this song is either by Greenday or the Descendents... It's hard to tell'. No. you wouldn't.

  • @KiteSwift Never once said that. Listen to the rhythm Greenday uses and the tone of their voice. VERY similar.

  • @StraightOutaPortland I agree. GD does sound like them a bit.

  • @StraightOutaPortland What the hell are you talking about ? Green Day is Green Day, Descendents are Descendents BOTH GREAT BANDS! BOTH DIFFERENT BANDS Listen to the song.

  • Years of history class, wasted when I could've listened to this

  • Greenday stole their sound

  • @StraightOutaPortland their is a difference between influence and stealing..

  • @StraightOutaPortland you sir are not very smart if you truly agree with that statement. Blink 182 sounds more like the descendents than green day does. the descendents are much more edgy than green day. just because both bands have catchy poppy punk songs does not mean they sound the same.

  • 6 people have proven this song's point.

  • PUNX NOT DEAD IN CANADA!!

  • SKATE SKATE SKATE!!!!!!!

  • this song OOZES truth

  • happy columbus day

  • this reminds me of bad religion.

  • America was never about equality. Rockin song though.

  • Green Day didn't kill punk, they actually made it more popular and increased the fanbase in the 90's cos of Dookie. sure they're not as good as the Descendents, NOFX or whatever, and their new music isn't as good as their old shit but they're still great

  • PUNK AINT DEAD, ITS ALIVE IN ME AND SOME OF MY FRIENDS, EVEN IF IT IS JUST ME, STILL ALIVE N KICKIN MOTHER FUCKERS, FUCK YALL I DONT GIVE A SHIT, THUMB ME DOWN

  • @CorporatePiss Your'e right me and my few punk friends are in a punk band.We don't play the stuff on the radio we play Bad Religion,Stooges,Black Flag,Misfits and the Ramones.Usualy we play originals that sound like are influences. My generation needs to stand up and create music instead of bitching about how music has turned into a form of corporate oppression.

  • @celtkid95 the Ramones play on the radio quite a bit actually

  • @aquakiller8

Yes they do.But you know what I mean.

  • @CorporatePiss punk died when the term "That's not punk" was made, punk is about not caring about anything anyone else does whether it be jocks or other punks, punks dont care

  • @aquakiller8 liking punk music dosen't make me a punk

  • @MEATWADFTW i never said anything about punk music

  • @aquakiller8 he/she right, its about being true to your self and not being influenced by other people

  • Punk's Not Dead, maybe to you it is... but i just saw the Casualties live and there definately was punk there

  • Punk never was. (Oooh, thumbed down?)

  • Punk is dead. Green Day killed it.

  • @01stupidstuff your giving them too much credit, man. ;)

  • @01stupidstuff

Punk is dead. Sex Pistols killed it.

  • @01stupidstuff how could greenday kill punk, THEIR POP PUNK THEIR AINT NO SUCH THING, THATS POSER SHIT, CANT KILL IT IF YA AINT PART OF IT

  • @01stupidstuff

you say stupid stuff, forreal. your username fits you.

  • @01stupidstuff

you say stupid stuff, forreal. your username fits you.

  • very good song

  • you gotta know the truth if you are gunna have pride

  • Old School Punk Rock Not Dead!

  • Speak it brothers.

  • I like how Milo sings "Klu" instead of "Ku."

  • i played this song once at work dishwashing, suprisingly another coworker knew who this was :)

  • @rebelbrown101 the sad thing is that only one co-worker knew that. Theese days every body is listening the shitty pop. Im glad that there at least 91,902 people that listen good music. DON'T LET THE GOOD MUSCI DIE!!!!

  • @MrEdgekid you're very right! nothing at all!!!

  • I thought this was by screeching weasel

  • You can be proud to be an American but you don't have to believe in the government, you all know that right?

  • @shaneshaneshane94

i agree. we live in one of the best countries to live in. we enjoy an unheard of amount of personal freedoms and some amazing things have taken place here. INCREDIBLE feats have been accomplished in our country. just last night, i made a delicious pie. but none of this means there isn't room for improvement and progression.

  • @stoopidryan8 thay may be the smartest thing ever written on youtube, no sarcasm

  • I'm proud and ashamed

    Every fourth of july

You got to know the truth

Before you say that you got pride

  • woo...america.

it's a love/hate relationship with this fucking country, lol

  • can we say thankyou to the american indians... the true americans...for being slaughtered so we can have an independence day?

  • @acissejbutt Native Americans. Saying American Indians is just insulting.

  • Bad Religion and the Descendents are two different bands, so why don't we all stop comparing them? This is Milo Aukerman, not Greg Graffin. If you want to talk about Bad Religion go watch one of their videos, feel free. But leave us Descendents to our own shit.

  • Happy 4th of July, everyone.

  • @CortneyElin Fuck USA.

  • @GDookie16 How sweet of you.

  • @CortneyElin I'm so sweet,.. like USA.

  • An argument created over a good song, what a surprise. People can't just listen to the song without arguing about it's message? Whoa, you guys are all so original.

  • @jonnydarkfall Yes. Self righteous comments about other people's behavior is so original.

  • You've got to know the truth before you say that you've got pride.

  • akuma you are being really ignorant you both generalise each other way too much.

  • i want to rape the replay-button and the like-button in one time.

  • like it a lot

  • I am American, and every lyric is true. Though you it's true, can you all really judge us if you're not 1 of us? But even so, I find our country is filled with hypocrites and I just hate the fact that our leaders think we're unstoppable, but we are really stupid (at least some of us are). At least i admit that things have always needed to change, but never will, and that really depresses me :(

  • our band came up with song called if you belive in god than burn down a church

  • IM JUST ANTHER STUPID AMERICAN!!!!!!!

    p.s i hate america period -.-

  • @punkster678 than fuck you!!

  • it sucks

  • I don't like punk, but so what? I'm not the audience for the song - and neither is the dude complaining about it.

It's well-produced and in its genre, reasonably powerful. AND IT CONVEYS THE MESSAGE - America USED to be a great country, and we let the politicians and corporations fuck it up.

Be ashamed - be very ashamed. THEN FIX IT!!!

  • too short :C

  • I love this song, i've listened to it 5 times in a row already!

  • I gotta say that there is A SINGLE thing I totally hate about USA. The Ignorance. How the Governments and their propaganda totally kept the american in the deepest ignorance and stupidity. And that nobody's in this state is trying to get out of it.

  • Fuck the government.

    Fuck the pharmaceutical companies.

  • Does Greg Gaffin sing in this..?

I can here Milo too.. is it both of them?

  • @BrancaMyName

    you sir are crazy

  • @BrancaMyName why?

  • This should be the new national anthem.

  • In honor of today's news, this song blasts throughout my office.

  • @broknrekord3 I just posted the song's full lyrics on my facebook, then posted the song right above all of my family who were posting lines from "God Bless the USA."

  • one of the few songs i like from that album :) nothing beats milo goes to college though that shit is STILL the shit

  • This is music, no need to discuss your political views of the world and this nation.

  • @twoforsixate Music about politics. Why not discuss?

  • 5 people have no ears

  • "you've got to learn the truth to say you have pride". I feel like I have raised my children proper sometimes for liking this band (that as far as I can tell has 3 horrid songs)

  • Are people not getting the message of this song? It's not just about completely blasting America. It's mixed feelings, it's about the conflict of ideals against the reality of America. "I'm proud and ashamed", it's not about completely hating America.

  • @DontShakeItUp You hit the nail on the head for sure.

  • @DontShakeItUp The second verse also talks about being proud of the accomplishments of men like Ben Franklin and Mark Twain...but then they talk about slavery and the KKK. America has both a proud and disgusting history, as do many countries. We just need to learn from the mistakes of the past and not repeat them.

  • @Haushinka234 history will sometimes repeat itself, its hard to prevent it

  • It's a Descendents song, bad religion is badass, but bad religion didn't make this song, so finish up your drink and go home!!

  • "I'm proud and ashamed..."

  • This isnt Bad Religion!!! It's the Descendents!!!!

  • @R0TT3N77 Obviously haha. Besides, Greg Graffin's lyrics are way more intuitive.

  • @billiejoesexi I could see Bad Religion covering this though. Without a doubt, they'd make this even more amazing.

  • @R0TT3N77 Yeah. Bad religion couldn't be this cool.

  • @Youngmoon08 I hear people all the time say this is from Bad Religion. (Face-palm)

  • @R0TT3N77 I will join you in that face palm. lol

  • @R0TT3N77 Yeah, i love both bands and have done so 20+ years. BUT this really sounds like a Bad religion song.

  • @steinarsxe True, it does. But I've had people try to argue with me about it. Just bugs me a little when people say that. But then again I should just get over myself and not worry about it haha.

  • if anyone in the uk (Hampshire) wants to start a skate punk/punk rock/pop punk band or needs a drummer message me! :)

  • These valley boys need a holiday in Cambodia.

  • @rushtoqueue So they can see how right they were about Americas negative impact on the rest of the world?

  • @Kerbieridesagain I agree to disagree.

  • @rushtoqueue deal

  • why do people hate on america? Ok yah, we have some ignorant people and a high obesity rate, but ignorance is everywhere, and if the south wasnt here that obesity rate would be a lot lower. And there's places like China that take people's individuality from them and force children to be the best and rip their creativity from them. America isnt so bad after all is it?

  • @dreaminsleepin Depends what you're replacing it with

  • @dreaminsleepin Because people always hate those who have some sort of power. Be it the most, or even just a little bit. There's a difference between rational dislike, and hatred because you think it's cool. Even this song isn't about hating America, it's about knowing what America was, and how we can make it better.

  • @dreaminsleepin I think everyone hates America because they come off as being loud, gluttonous, selfish, ignorant people who just wanna start wars with countries over issues that don't concern them, while drinking bourbon and shooting guns and using God or Jesus as an excuse to justify it all.

  • @markfryer87 Because that's exactly what Americans all think.

  • @markfryer87 What's wrong with shooting guns and drinking bourbon?

  • @dreaminsleepin

"I'm proud *and* ashamed every 4th of July"

    This song is hardly one-sided.

  • @bowlsallbroken i wasnt talking about the song. and now that all this peter king hearings bullshit it going on, im against america too

  • @dreaminsleepin The idea of a free America was lost when they failed to seperate Church and State.

  • @dreaminsleepin I will never turn a blind eye to the injustices that America has perpetrated and continues to perpetrate. However, we have also done some very great things.

  • I like this, it's way more to the point than their "Bikeage" ore "Hope." Plus, I like the apparent mid-90s Bad Religion vibe.

  • Descendents is kind of a cocktease; their other stuff isn't really like this :(

  • Damn! First time hearing this song! I fucking love it!!

  • this bass on this song is hard to master. I'll post a bass cover...one day

  • This song got me into Skater punk.

  • SO FUCKING TRUE!

  • <3 this song like the message saying that he can't deny the fact he is apart of the system(Calling himself aother stupid american) but he still knows the haps. ;)

  • this is my favorite son

  • i definitely agree with this song. America is screwed up. it's just been that way for a while, and i doubt it will change

  • @DragonRyder1988 everywheres fucked up to a different degree. you just gotta find the place you feel that is the least fucked up. becasue i can almost garuntee that 99.9% of the population isnt gonna agree with EVERYTHING the government does. but you just gotta make comprimises.

  • I dont hate America I hate the United States that Control it.

  • @Chewbaccatwat very well said my friend

  • @Chewbaccatwat You hate the country, but you live in it. You complain that something is wrong, but you do nothing about it. What a cool guy you must be.

  • @Knarf009 how do you know that he does nothing about it? can you see him clairvoyantly at a great distance?

if you know how to see that far, please tell the rest of us how to do it! there are a great many youtube commentators I would like to get a good look at from a distance :)

  • @leet512 Well, there never has been a punk that changed the country, therefore, he cannot be doing anything (with any success) about the problems of this country.

  • @Knarf009 You know why "there never has been a punk that changed the country?" Because no one listens to us, because everyone in this country is a judgemental asshole that's scared of change.

  • @AkumaMello666 Or maybe what you have to say is nothing more than the ignorant ramblings of a hormonal teenager. You'll grow out of this phase, most people do.

Even if punks do come up with a valid point they express in a way that does nothing but turn everyone against it. They destroy their credibility with vulgarity, immodest dress and disrespect.

Did MLK cuss? Did he scream? Did he dress like he just rolled out of the gutter? No. Take the hint.

  • @Knarf009 He didn't cuss, he didn't scream, he didn't dress like he just rolled out of the gutter and they killed him anyway because they didn't like his views. He might as well have cussed, screamed, and dressed like he rolled out the gutter.

  • @mindingosafado Who the hell is this "they"? One racist son of bitch shot him. The fact remains that his message was heard because of how he presented it and that's what angsty hormonal punks don't seem to understand. You catch more flies with honey-- which is to say if you present your message in a pleasant way more people will listen. Loud aggressive punk isn't any kind of pleasant way to send a meaningful message.

  • @Knarf009 "They" are the people who didn't like him. The Government was one of "Them", that is, people who didn't like what he was saying. Yes, one person shot him, but many people disliked him, which is why I said "They". Yes, I know "They" collectively didn't shoot him, but "They" collectively bred and environment in which one man stood out and shot him. I'm saying it didn't matter if MLK cussed or dressed strange, because people who were treated like shit could relate to him & supported him.

  • @mindingosafado If MLK hadn't stood up and did what he did then that atmosphere that got him killed would still exist today. So yes, the way he presented himself was VERY important.

  • @Knarf009 Also, about loud and aggressive. The people hearing the message have to have to share the same feeling of anger and aggression against whatever someone is angry about. That's what makes punk music powerful, the fact that people who make it, don't sugar-coat how they feel, they don't act different. They simply express pure feeling without altering anything. No, the presentation doesn't appeal to everyone, but if people ignored the dress, the attitude, they would prbly be able to relate.

  • @mindingosafado Imagine if someone was explaining to you that you're wrong about something but constantly called you stupid and a moron while he explained it. Would you be willing to accept what he says or would you block it out? Now what if he nicely explain it to you, complimenting your intelligent? Would you be more willing to listen?

It's as simple as that. Don't yell in people's faces about how they're wrong if you want them to listen and change.

  • @Knarf009 I personally don't mind when people call me stupid. Yes, most people wouldn't listen, I'm saying is the presentation of Punk immediately appeals to a fraction of people. The rest of the people who see it as loud and aggressive are busy paying attention to the loud/aggressiveness, I'm simply saying, mature people can bypass the loud/aggressive by ignoring it, but those less mature can't see past the loud/aggressive. Which means some people have to try harder to be open to it. That's all

  • @mindingosafado A mature person doesn't want anything to distract from his message. When you see a politician give a speech are you paying any attention to what he is wearing or how he has his hair? What's the main focus? Obviously what he has to say.

What about a female teacher? Would he be right if she wore a short skirt and a low cut top showing lots of cleavage? Obviously not because that would distract from her lesson.

Punk is a distraction for any meaningful message.

  • @Knarf009 Well, you're obviously hell bent on the fact that Punk is terrible and that Punk itself distracts from anything meaningful it could have to say. That's like saying someone's book is devoid of worth because you don't like the font, or that the Presidents speech is devoid of worth because you don't like his tie. You can do that, but it is quite ridiculous to say Punk has no worth because it's loud and aggressive.

  • @mindingosafado I never said Punk was terrible, it's just the wrong type of music to choose if you're trying to change something.

And would you read a book if when you looked at the cover there were a bunch of uncensored dudes having sex with each other? Or if you're into that, something else of an equivalent inappropriateness.

Likely you'd look at that and think "this is probably not for me" and put it back. And a president isn't going to wear a weird tie that someone would be distracted by.

  • @Knarf009 The whole point of art, music being an art, is to express something you think or feel. Saying Punk is the "wrong" kind of music to change something is ridiculous. There's no "right" and "wrong" in art. Sure there's "effective" and "less effective" but if the person making the song doesn't care how effective it is, and simply wants to express himself regardless of who listens, their choice. I don't think Punk worries about effective or even if right and wrong were applicable to art.

  • @Knarf009 And if I ever came across a book with anything that made me ask myself "what in the fuck?" on the cover, I would read the first few pages because I'd want to know why the author put something crazy on the cover. I do try my hardest to at least listen/read/try everything, instead of just looking at it and saying "this doesn't look like its for me" and never taking the time to analyze it, give a chance and decide if I like it.

  • @Knarf009 Not opening a book because of the cover is horrible. And yes, I've done it before. If I write anything off because of the way it looks, before actually getting any facts about its subject, It may take me weeks, months, or a couple years, but eventually at some point I'll mature slightly more and go back and figure out what something is really about, not what the cover makes me thing it's about and alot of the time its something I like in some way, despite the absurd outward apearance

  • great damn song! Yea I totally agree that the punk vibe brings the song justice. I love it, and I think of the same thing everyday, I live in a land that I love in many ways, and also despise...but one of the biggest prevailing problem, that pop artists like Green Day, and this guy, really capture, is the dumbed down, "finish up a drink and go home," culture that is the U.S., and probably has been for many many years.

  • @Knarf009 The word "vulgarity" simply means "lack of refinement." Who the hell decides what "refinement" is? "Immodest dress?" Who the hell defines that? And if me wearing mens pants and tank tops is immodest, then what the hell am I supposed to wear? "Disrespect?" Why should we respect someone who clearly is not going to respect us because they have a set opinion on just what is "vulgar" and "immodest?" If you like the message that's being given, then who cares who the messenger is?

  • @AkumaMello666 Those within your culture define what refinement is and what modest dress is. And you must be hopelessly ignorant if you can't look around and see what normal modest dress is. You should respect them because you'll need their respect and help if you want to accomplish anything.

You can sit around saying "fuck the world", but you won't get the world's help and you'll never accomplish anything. Lastly, why listen to someone who doesn't respect you?

  • @Knarf009 respect is earned. if i gain people's respect by becoming a sheep and following their twisted ideals, i don't want their respect, they sure as hell won't have mine.

respect is earned. until you've earned it, go fuck yourself.

    fuck the world.

  • @Rabsputin How is it being a "sheep"? Is getting a job being a sheep? Everyone gets a job, so everyone with a job must be a sheep, right? The world works a certain way and we play within those rules. If your clothes are the most important thing to who you are and you can't compromise on what you wear then you're nothing. You're no different than a little rich girl buying thousand dollar jeans to feel important.

Besides, how have YOU earned anyone's respect? You're a lazy worthless hypocrite.

  • @Knarf009 "Is getting a job being a sheep?"

yes, it is. getting a job and conforming to what's expected of you in society is the behaviour of a sheep. capitalist society doesn't want you to be able to think for yourself, it wants obedient workers who won't go above their station.

"The world works a certain way and we play within those rules."

as defined by men. fuck the rules.

    (to be continued)

  • @Knarf009 (continued)

"If your clothes are the most important thing to who you are"

they're not. they do appear to be for those who expect you to conform though.

"You're no different than a little rich girl buying thousand dollar jeans to feel important."

the clothes i wear don't change how i feel one iota, unless i'm freezing and i put on a jacket.

    (to be continued)

  • @Knarf009 (continued)

"Besides, how have YOU earned anyone's respect?"

in a multitude of ways, one of them is being my own person and not another lamb to be led to slaughter, but you wouldn't understand this.

    "You're a lazy worthless hypocrite."

and you're jumping to conclusions due to an emotional reaction to my previous comment.

fuck the world YOU live in, it's a living nightmare for those of us who actually give a shit about being ourselves.

  • @Rabsputin Hahahahahaha it's funny because you're serious. Enjoy trying to justify the fact that you're completely worthless and an embarrassment to your entire family. I'm sure your teachers and family are really proud of the complete nothing that you are. You really showed the world! XD

  • @Knarf009 you can laugh all you like, i really don't care, but realise that you actually have no idea who i am, and jumping to conclusions serves only to make you look like a cock.

enjoy the world you've been brainwashed into believing is the only way to live before it comes crumbling down under the weight of the greedy bastards who own you and the people you love, you're the one filling their plates.

  • @Rabsputin I'm not brainwashed in the slightest. I acknowledge that being a lazy parasite like you is a bad way to live.

You're a parasite on the life blood of our society, leeching from others without returning anything. It's funny that you ridicule this society and yet you're the very thing that's wrong with it. The problem with the American life style is people consume more than they produce, making them an incredible tax on the planet. Your life is a strain on humanity.

  • @Knarf009 "I'm not brainwashed in the slightest."

yes... because you'd KNOW if you were brainwashed, wouldn't you?

you're jumping to conclusions again. you ASSUME that because i understand how capitalism works and despise it that i'm some kind of burden on "society" and that i'm not gainfully employed.

i don't leech off of anyone, i'm a self made man, the fact remains that you have to deal with the society that you're born into until you can change it.

    (to be continued)

  • @Rabsputin That's funny, then you're a sheep and a hypocrite. You claim getting a job makes you a sheep and you claim you have a job.

So not only are you completely self-righteous, but you don't even practice what you preach.

You'll never change society and you'll never even make a real effort to try. You need to get your hormones under control and stop lashing out at people.

  • @Knarf009 who lashed out? you were the one flinging insults around.

i'm no hypocrite, but i do understand the concept of surviving your environment. i'm self employed, so i'm halfway closer to independence than those who work under a boss.

when you're working against an enormous capitalist system you can't change how you live overnight without an extremely high chance of perishing, thanks to how deep rooted this diseased idea of civilisation runs amongst the population.
