They (children) would have been safe right out there beside it ! The Opossum is very timid and shy and do not pose any danger to humans unless they are cornered and there is no escape route.. They are the least likely mammal in the US to contract Rabies. And several people find them to be very lovable, see my favorites. You won't believe how gentle they are.
I dont know the first thing about Opossum safety so thanks for the information. I did check out your favorites and they do appear to be a very loving little animal.
