I can't get excited about a global sporting event that excludes more than half of the people on earth. Tell me how less fortunate kids can practice the luge or ski jumping? This just about a bunch of rich kids that rely on daddy's dime or government handout to slide down an ice tube on their asses or ski really fast then shoot a gun! Whatever..
well, take for example Simon Ammann - he wasn't a rich kid when he started doing ski jumping but he had a dream and look where it took him. O Johnny Weir who started skating on the cornfield behind his house in the pair of old skates because his family couldn't afford new ones....So it's not about the rich or the poor it's about how hard you work and how strong your will is
Of course there will always be exceptions, but not many inner city kids get to hang out at Whistler practicing ridiculous luge sports on daddy's dime.
If you actually want people to care for a cause, the approach is not to boycott their favourite moments/events...that just gets you hate, and lack of support as in the case of PETA.
There are always genocides and unfounded killings around the world, yet we still sit here and type on Youtube....enjoying the Olympics won't change "our" support in the least.
It's nice to help others, but you don't need to put the whole world's problems on your shoulders, especially when most if not all are completely out of your hands.
So I'd rather enjoy my life and help when I can within my comfortable means.
I am a proud Canadian! I hope all the tourists who come to the 2010 Olympic games all buy plenty of seal fur trinkets and clothing. I am proud to be a seal hunter, it is my heritage, my culture. And I am proud to be Canadian!
Yes. Unfortunately some just don't know what fun and enjoying life means...everything to them has to be a negative or an initiative, thinking they are making a difference.
The sad truth is that the best way you can help, would be to donate your time and money by going across the ocean to nations that can really use the support to build infrastructure, clean water and etc, like some nations in Africa, Middle East, and Asia...but instead they would rather be pretentious on YouTube.
I can just see Greenpeace, the shmucks, trying to ruin our games because of seals and the environment issues. Is there a more useless organization on the planet?
Go Canada, this is our time and nothing can stop us from showing the world that we're number one in evey way
soooooooooooooooooo damn excited for the olympics!!! cant wait for my city to show the world how to host a proper olympic games, and most of all cant wait for CANADA TO CLEAN HOUSE! LETS GO CANADA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
Now, you are correct that the governments have failed on the issue. However, they have poured nearly $50 million into the downtown Eastside in an attempt to alleviate the homelessness, however, they have failed to solve the problem. The problem isn't that the money isn't going into these areas, the problem is that we haven't found an adequate solution to the homeless issue in Vancouver. When you come up with a solution, go to your local MP.
bean1336: you FAILed to mentions where that $50 million went...specifically.
There are many models that have worked in countires like Denmark/Norway on homelessness....but it's more mental illness that plague the homeless...meaning less money is going to medicine/care.
i completely agree. every one of those damn "no games 2010" activists need to go hide in their respective holes for the next 4 months. if they try ANYTHING during the games, i hope no mercy is shown to them by our $1 billion security contingent. LETS GO CANADA
anti 2010 activists??? What the hell, I haven't heard about that! That's bs! I can't frigging wait for the winter games, I agree with your comment about no mercy from the security and hiding in their holes.
NIce...although I think that they'd probably protest too that they have to dig holes to hide in and blame the government (though I think that the Liberal government should be blamed)
the olympics next year are gonna be awesome i really want to go up there, only a national border and 3 states north and im there.shaun white gonna rock this year,i really want to see some skeleton, and bobsled, apollo anton ohno and some speed skating
Fuck all people who diss canada and the winter games im proud to be a canadian and cant wait to see canadians bring home the gold in vancover!!!!!!!!!!!
I've lived in Vancouver all my life, and found it to be a great place. You're exaggerating to a ridiculous degree when you say that we in habitants are nothing more than a collective group of gangsters and crimminals. Think before you post such thoughtless comments next time, 尔废话的王八旦!
Boycott the 2010 Canadian Olympics. Each year the Canadian fishing industry kills over a 1/4 million baby Harp Seals for their fur alone. 325,000 in 2007 and 275,000 in 2008. Just "youtube" "Harp Seal Slaughter" right here on Youtube and see exactly what's going on.
Seriously? the seal hunt is your ammunition for boycotting the games? Really? China had horrible human rights abuse issues, the US well .... so many issues I won't even start and you pick a fight about the seal hunt? Is that really all you could find? Guess we're doing pretty well.
If anyone deserves the game it's Canada. I'm proud to be Canadian.... well except the Avril Lavigne thing
The last time you got pulled over for speeding how useful was the argument. "Aren't there better things you could be doing with your time?" Argument. Doesn't make it any less of a crime. Do you gauge your level of goodness, on others' badness? It sounds to me like you're trying to justify your country's sins, by pointing to others. All your doing is creating a gray-scale of sin to which you can place yours near the bottom instead of addressing the issue. Funny Avril. Lavigne joke though.
I don't think that's what joelsweet was saying at all. His point, if I may, was that there needs to be a little consistency in terms of what warrants a boycott. If atrocious human rights abuses don't, then why should the seal hunt (which, incidentally, isn't for fur alone as you allege). Now, don't take that as an endorsement, I think it's a terrible practice too.
I'm Canadian, and I realize that the seal killing is a sad thing, and am COMPLETELY against it (screw the Harper government for making this an "international sport"). But how will boycotting the Olympics help? VANOC didn't cause the seal hunting: the federal government just allows it. So I recommend that you go up to the Parliament buildings and protest there, or at least demand to interact with your MP...you do know that they are have to fill out your request, right?
im supposed to go on a mission at the begining of 2010 but the olympics are too close(like 3 states and another country)but on the same coast. so i have to go lol
This video makes me so homesick for vancouver. I wish i could move back. Out of all the other cities in the world I've been to and lived in, which is quite a few, none compare to the beauty and quality of life in vancouver.
If you look closely at 01:54mins, the kid is wearing a Montreal Canadiens jersey. What the heck, Vancouver is Canucks territory, should be showing a kid wearing Vancouver Canucks jersey.
You will never have Olympic games here because of a massive Earthquake in 2008. Your greed, ignorance, intolerance and fear will come back to haunt you. Ta losers!! Go down with the ship.
Because of "the Whistler/Blackcomb mountains and snow first of all and secondly, the warm spring sunshine that will be blossoming the flowers in Vancouver when they come down from the cold heights ", and not because of its friendly, caring people. Vancouver, putting savage spirit into the 2010 games. Long Live Olympia...

Vancouver barely has any seal fur.....
Reason why is because asians don't car much for seal fur and vancouver is very hippy like.

Aren't the games meant to be a time where all nations come together, regardless of any wars and disputes between them?

Visitors coming to VANCOUVER.
The 2010 Olympics is a corporate event that bankrupts cities. Please also be aware of Homelessness issue in and around BC.
More specifically the east side of downtown vancouver...
Home of the Homeless in Canada. The Provincial and Federal Governments have failed on this issue decades ago.
