  • Sir. Meaning no disrespect, but I hope to god I never need an insulin pump in my life. I am a 43 year old man diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I can't stand needles!!!

  • Hello! I saw this and I am an advocate of the Quickset infusion set. I have found that inserting it into my stomach hurts, but if you place the set on your back (love handles) where there is a little more skin, it works much better. Glad to see the insulin pump is being used by many. * have been on medtronic pump for almost 3 years now. I was diagnosed when I was 11 years old, and taking shots was the least of my worries. Using the pump gives you way more control of your blood glucose!!

  • I have just witnessed a person having a set delieved by a health professionnel and it was terrible. You should have demonstrated to the patient to push down before releasing..I hope that these comments will help but we are happy none wiser.

  • Thank you very much. I'll have my daughter see this. We're talking about getting her a pump.

  • @n01uno if it hurts you should think about injecting in a different area.

  • Lol I used to save those caps in my first year on the pump. You'd find them everywhere! Pockets, car, pencil case, fruit bowl XD It was bizarre!

Did you know with the little blue needle-thing, after taking it out you bend the long bit forward and it 'clicks' to cover the needle? :P

  • Wow you look like your getting buff

  • i got my pump with my health cover, but i have to pay for everything to change stuff over.

  • Forgot to show how to prime the pump after it was inserted.

  • i dont know about anybody else but my hospital pays for all my stuff

  • how much will it cost?

  • @bethpab21 how much will it cost?

  • @bethpab21 I think it costs now around 5000$ and more than 1000$ a year for all the infusion sets and the reservoir bottle

  • @bethpab21 mine coasted $6500

  • you did not do the fixed prime

  • I am not billionare to get this :(

  • Yeah i had to use one of those MiniLink Wireless Transmitters for testing for 3 days and i swore down i would never use it again.. Its a much thicker needle which causes it to hurt a lot more as well!

  • thats the ONLY negative thing i found about the pump, the little red bump after, and that is sooo worth it to me, ill take one of those every 3 days verses 4 to 5 injections a day, love my pump

  • Hey....you are so brave. I am 21 years old and was diagnosed at 20 with type 1.5 (basically type 1) and I get my pump tomorrow or the day after. I am so scared though because I don't know how I will react to it or how to change the sites. Think I have a nervous excitement.

  • @jtaund same thing happened to my ..at around 20 or 21 I got type 1.5 (actually I just recently heard of this called 1.5) and I got my pump but not installed yet on me..thats this Monday

  • @rhdtv2002 Good luck! I have had my pump for about 2 months now and love it! I wouldn't change it for the world. My numbers have improved greatly and I just had lab work done yesterday. I hope my A1c's came down alot! Good luck with the pump. I know you will like it.

  • me again sorry I meant to say Canadian government, not Canadian "giv"!

  • Thanks for this, I've only been using it one day and its a big help. I'm from Canada and the Canadian giv pays for this pump 100% for Canadians with Type 1 who are under proper doctor's care. Americans really need to get on board with their national heatlth care so your kids can get teh same benefits of universal health care.

  • This is a very useful and encourging video. I am a Doctor. My young brother is Diabetic since he was 4 years old, he is 14 years old now. we had a hard time controling his blood sugar in the past 10 years and now we are considering the Insulin Pump. I used this video to show him the idea of the pump. it helped alot. many thanks Brent !

  • You're a brave kid and I watched your video and knew if you could do it and not show any pain at your tender age that at my middle age that I should be able to do it too. I did it last tuesday and changed my first site yesterday. Thanks for the encouragement.

  • That poor kid, FM, I became insulin dependant at age 30 without meters, pumps etc., I used 30/70 insulin several times a day until I lost feeling in my legs and today October 13/09 I was told I am legally blind!!!!!Now, too late, I have a pump and some knew hope, help this child live symtom free for ever!!!

  • Im just wondering. For future reference when he gets a new pump. Did you ever check out the Omnipod by Insulet. Its compleatly wireless. He might want it, or just be fine with his current pump. IF you want to see videos on it. Type in Omnipod in the youtube search bar. Best of luck, Allie

  • Thanks for this useful video!! A lot of new patients have some difficulties the firsts times they use their insulin pump devices, of checking their glucose, etc. I think its great that this patients have online resources to learn and stop being afraid of their condition/disease.
