I have read a lot about Buck Clayton and it is very interesting that even before his Basie Days he was a band leader and was instrumental in introducing jazz to China. The Chinese wanted in particular an african american jazz band and Buck was the leader. Then after he had retired from performing on trumpet he did a lot of work as an arranger and mentor to many in NYC. You can hear his great talent in this wonderful solo of All of Me where he creates so much original melodic content ..thanks
I grew up in Buck's hometown of Parsons KS across the alley from his mother. She used to cut my mom's hair. Wonderful old lady. Buck's autobio is a splendid read.
I have a 10inches record. It says " Buck Clayton orck. palm club. limited edition not for sale. Palm26." It has 6 tracks: Swinging the blues, going chicago, sent for you yesterday,on the sunny side of the street, night train, outer drive. Matrix nº H26A and H26B
Any idea of when it was recorded and why?. Please if anyone knows it let me know it. Thanks.
