When he moved his bed from in front of the sand tower and into his house, the spawning place reset, and since he moved it he didn't sleep in it.. that's why he didn't spawn there :)

@inkblack3 Actually no theres nothing wrong with that as long as you don't mind having a 40% chance of suffocating in a wall. Its the fact that he forgot to sleep in it so it never saved it as his bed. It still thought that the bed was in the wilderness but it isn't.
