I don't think this process is too good & effective. Very few people get rid of Debt by itself. When they are unable to do so they have to file bankruptcy. Due to this they loose their property & harm their credit score. So, it's better to go for consolidation of debts through several debt programs.
That is so great! I have been on this since 2006 and I am now only a month or two away from finishing. I strongly advocate an important part of this process is to help others financially. My chosen cause is Kiva micro loans. Earlier this year something major happened that helped out my progress. I still don't know how or why it happened. (I can't say what it is due to confidentiality agreement) but I repeat - putting something out there is so important.
well I actually figured it out and I have paid off roughly 64% of my unwanted credit card debt which is roughly $12,726 in roughly 17 months so just under a year and a half.....and still have $7274 to go......seriously....? ): sorry Im just a tad obsessed.....! but I have paid off a good chunk.....thanks for your inspiration!
@keu143146 Keep it up! You can do it! :) It'll be worth it in the end, I promise! Here we are, 2 years later, and we are SO glad we are debt free, especially now that we've been unemployed for several months. Being debt free is allowing me to work for myself a bit and explore that as a possible career option.
Im still chugging away....I now have $7224 left at a .50 monthly charge....I dont think Ill ever see the end of it..... ): God is and has blessed me thru it all but its been about 14 months and I sill have just over 7k to go....im really frustrated....when I started it was roughly $20k but still..... ): I just dont think Ill ever be credit card debt free and Im not using them....grrr! ):
But then you will go back to debt if you buy a house NOT in cash! You are always renting from the bank if you don't own the house in full. In doubt ? Try missing a mortgage payment, then you'll see who really owns the house !
But congrats for being debt free...for now till the house comes!
@Morrocanprincess Right. We're saving a 20% down-payment and then plan on doing a 15-year fixed mortgage that is no more than 25% of our monthly take-home pay. We'll be in debt for it, but we'll pay it off and hopefully come out ahead since real estate is often an investment. Most other debt (credit cards, cars, business equipment, etc.) are on items that depreciate. By the time you pay it off, the value of the item is about what you still owe on it -- nothing. Real estate can be different.
That's so awesome. I know God doesn't want His people to be in debt to anyone except the debt of love. I'm praying & believing the Lord shall deliver us from the debtors as well.
@Kaystar32 When we started the process there was no FPU around here. We just read Dave Ramsey's book, "Total Money Makeover," and did it on our own. Since then FPU has come to town and Dana and I speak at almost every one to share our story. Fun stuff! I hope you guys get to go through FPU.
@mrsprincesslily We didn't put any money into savings while we were paying off debt, but as soon as it was all paid off we started putting that money into saving. We started saving like that two years ago, which eases the stress of our recent unemployment.
@FuryChord Yeah, totally. I worked 3 jobs and applied for every single scholarship I could find in college and graduated without any debt, but wasn't quite able to do that through grad school. Fortunately it's all paid off now.
Amazing. Im married, we dont eat out, and we dont pay for internet and tv. And we still can't save money to pay our dept. Because none of us are able to get a job right now. I hope you guys will pray for us.
Im so happy for you, and it was really inspiring to watch this video, thank you for sharing. God bless you <3
@esile567 My wife and I are actually unemployed right now, too. We're so thankful we started cleaning up our financial mess a couple years ago before hitting this point in our lives. Our Dave Ramsey emergency fund definitely helps relieve some pressure.
@rainzies Awesome! Hope you pay them off quickly! It's easy for the student loans to linger because they payments are sometimes low and low interest rates. Mentally it's easy to keep them around, as Dave says, "so long that Sallie Mae becomes pet."
this is a really great story. I am glad you all are Debt Free. But youth ministry wont help you financially. you might be happy with your life and that is great, that is awesome, i feel like that is a hard task to do but God will not help you with your financial interests. Only yourself and education will help you be successful financially. you should really understand that. And i think if you were really that Christian you would be giving money to the poor not to yourselves.
I like this story, the couple and the message but damn, a god had nothing to do with it.
As they said, they just finally realized: We cannot live like this anymore.
So, they started managing their finances and concentrate on the financial aspects of their lives. That's it. It was hard work and if the thought of god helping them, supported them emotionally through this period, then fine.
Yes Congrats to you! God is good. When I got serious, the master came when the student was ready. The day after I made the decision to follow through on getting out of debt I received a balance transfer in the mail for 0% for two years which is unheard of. It was a card I had opened already so I transferred my balances there. In about one year I can do my out of debt scream..thanks for sharing!
I will have a paid off home mortgage, but I'm doing it the easy way, I still live at home with parents, same deal with my brother, in order to hoard and save as much money as possible. We're both in our mid to late 20's. By the way I'm typing from an Imac computer at Best Buy. I don't own a pc.

We're just getting started on our TMMO. It's gonna be a long haul, but listening to your story and some of the challenges you guys overcame is really encouraging. Congratulations! I pray that God continues to bless you richly.
We need to debunk the myth that we NEED consumer debt in our economy to keep the market going. Just the opposite: the market crashed because debt caught up to businesses & individuals alike. The market was inflated for over a decade based on a false economy of people & businesses buying things with credit that they had no business buying based on their income. If we go back to a world where people save and buy instead of finance, a lot of that mysterious "market volatility" will disappear.
I just found this site about getting out of debt: outofdebtstrategy.blogspot.com. It's quite interesting. There are over 40 articles and every day new ones are added.

That is so nice. Thanks for sharing! I was a bit discouraged with how much to give up in this material world to pay up student loans, but now hearing what you have to say, I should I really go full blown. Thank you!

Way to go! I'm going through Dave's FPU right now, and I'm a single gal, so I've got some interesting challenges. Anyhow, don't listen to these folks knocking your faith. I'm not Christian myself, but Dave's principles are solid and could save our country! Anyhow, best wishes on saving for your emergency fund. Dave rocks! You should be so proud of yourselves!
@flutingaround Thanks so much. I wish the government would listen to Dave's advice, and realize how much better we are. I guess the best we can do for now is follow it for our own households so we don't get stuck in the debt trap.

Buried?? Do you call a truck payment and a home payment buried??? I don't even have a freaking credit card, only debit. Wow... you bible thumpers are something else!!
Good job guys. We're working Dave's plan too. We were cruising right along before the economy took a dump and I had a 50% cut in pay. However - we didn't go into anymore debt during that time and had plenty of money to pay all our bills. We look forward to this year as some of my pay is returning and we can attack that one last loan.
@danaschmoyer My pay is back on track with the recovering economy. We should be debt free at the end of this year if all goes well! Just had my washing machine explode on me - no big deal - that is what emergency fund is for. (luckily I can repair myself).
@searsbrothers What great news! Pass on your story of becoming debt free. It's been cool to see God bless others through the discipline he taught us. And way to go on being able to do your own repairs, very nice!
Great job. Your a cute couple and you should be proud of yourselves. I'm working on getting out of debt myself. I have a long ways to go, but I will get there!
We are a young family of 5 and close to 55k in debt. We started our debt snowball and hope to be debt free in just under 2 years. Thanks for posting this. Its great to see others to help motivate us to stay on track. I believe God helps us when we are obedient. Loved hearing about the help God gave and your acknowledgment of him helping you accomplish your goals.
@minwimm I'm glad this helped motivate. We still have to listen to Dave's podcasts to continue to strive towards saving for a down payment on a house, but continuing to be debt free! :) I'd love to hear how y'all are doing now. Keep that gazelle intensity!
I love your "eating out" monthly allowance of 25.00. Mine is 10 dollars per month for myself and two kids - we look forward each month to the once a month Dairy Queen cones!
Hi! Thank you for your message. My family has been on Dave's plan since November '08. We're in our mid-forties and my only regret is that we didn't "Dave Up" a lot sooner. You are a blessing and an inspiration to many. Keep up the good work!
That is the greatest story. I am looking forward to becoming debt free. IT is hard but we should be doing it anyway.. I will live like no one else so later I can live like no else. Thanks again.
How very wonderful for you and thanks for taking the time to tell your story and outline how you did it. I took some mental notes. Very inspiring. Most young people do not see the importance of what you did, as I didn't, but I hope that your generation starts a new revolution when it comes to debt and money. There is a huge industry that is thriving off of our indebtedness. You guys beat them at their own game. Once again, very inspiring.
We're paying our truck off in April, will be our last debt and will have our 6 month emergency fund by July. Praise God! Thanks to God and Dave Ramsey, who I believe is God's minister of personal finance. We paid off our mortgage, so our house and my car is paid for as well. Debt is a four letter word. I'll never go back to the old way & it really wasn't so hard. We have hope for the future now. Thanks for your story. It's lovely. read THE TOTAL MONEY MAKEOVER
Dave's plan works, it's hard but it's worth it!!!

Good work just keep in mind Paper is not money.
So if you want to save for long term do not save paper money to collect interest.
Save Gods money.
