Hydrogen sulphide is more dangerous than hydrogen CYANIDE & highly flammable. It's far safer to leave the sewer until the gas is gone.

I work at a sewage plant, and to be honest I dont know if the ones in my area/region are run better but a typical sweage plant does not have raw flow coming down stairs and on walkways, this sewage facility looks severely run down. Judging by the fact that there in a confined space containing toxic gases and no one is following any sort of cofined space regulation, leads me to believe its probably somewhere in the states, probably down south.. lol.

@cheemooo Well there is a huge population difference from back then to now but also if you've read about early world civilizations they too had bath houses and a sewage system they just didn't go abouting pooing everywhere. How hygienic is crap left out in the sun or snow? Isn't it a fertile ground for germs to breed? and again there are other climates/seasons to consider. what happens when it rains? We'd be ankle deep in our own poo...eeew!!! That's why we have sewage system n treatment plants

Most sewage plants except for the smallest have showers in the locker room.The health Department usually innoculates the workers against Hepatitus,none for Aids or Dysentery.I worked for a company where you had to wait to shower until you went home.Most Scba's only do 30 minutes at a time.Worst part is when it rains and you're trying to keep it from overflowing the system.Sewer plant operator for 18 years.

Certain types of gasses have small molecular structures that pass right through a mask. If an oxygen molecule or a nitrogen molecule can get past a mask, many Hydrogen compounds can as well, as well as Ammonia which is VERY lethal and smaller than an Oxygen molecule if I remember right. In that case only a rebreather/recycler unit can protect you, and those have their own problems.

when i first moved to this city I went to the BonnyBrook Plant. Sounds happy but it's a sewage plant. The smell wasn't so bad it was the condoms i saw people flush down the toilet. It was an odd introduction to calgary
