Any love for Buddy Rich? I don't care who's the best. They all have their own styles. I don't know of any drummers besides Grohl who started a hugely popular band and played guitar instead of drums. So talented.
I think Dave knows he's not the greatest drummer ever. But I would have to say he has most definitely made a lasting mark on drumming and he easily has the best presence of any drummer I've seen.

Grohl is great. Watch his live performances with Nirvana. However, I don't understand how you can play the drums wearing gloves. If you hold your sticks right, you can play as hard and long as you like with bare hands (John Bonham)

@ALxtreme grohl is a decent rock drummer at best- rock is like k thru 4th grade in drum terms. the next group of drummers you listed are great progressive rock drummers, but this is like grades 5 thru 8th. top progressive rock are like thomas lang or dylan elise -grades 9 thru 12. their is a "best" category for drumming but you need to listen to jazz fusion - anything like dave weckl is so advanced beyond what most people listen to or can do - he's like the phd in drumming- 'crossing paths' vid

Why do people have to try to declare the "greatest drummer" of all time. There are soooo many great drummers, all great at different things, i.e. innovation, chops, stamina, speed, coordination, etc. I would match Buddy Rich against any of the so named 'greatest drummers' for all of those attributes wrapped into one man. As a drummer, i love his aggression in his playing, The one thing he brings to drumming that most others don't in my opinion. There are still loads who are better though.

While Dave certainly is a great drummer, he is NOT the best drummer in the world. When drummers are asked what drummer insprired them, they don't mention Dave Grohl. To be a great drummer, one needs to play their drums in a way that their sound is recognized no matter what. I can't see Dave drum beats and fills being memorable or having a style that other want to copy. John Bonham will always be regarded as the world's best drummer ever so let's all get used to that being said forever as well.
Dave is the best because of his energy, power and charisma. And also because he played for Nirvana. Not with an obscure death metal band only known by freaks and blood drinkers.

he really is an amazing drummer, Drumming isn't about speed or how much you payed for your shit, its about how you use what you have, and your beat, drums lead the entire band and dave Grohl has amazing beat and never loses it. Buddy rich does the same thing but extrememly fast.

More like your favorite drummer which I can't argue it's your opinion. But what makes him best in the world? Just because he was in Nirvana and played all these gigs does'nt cut it! Mangini has several WFD (Worlds Fastest Drummer) records. Dave play's guitar and sings now I don't even really consider him when thinking of great drummers.

While Dave certainly is a great drummer, he is NOT the best drummer in the world. When drummers are asked what drummer insprired them, they don't mention Dave Grohl. To be a great drummer, one needs to play their drums in a way that their sound is recognized no matter what. I can't see Dave drum beats and fills being memorable or having a style that other want to copy. John Bonham will always be regarded as the world's best drummer ever so let's all get used to that being said forever as well.
