Such is the magic of marketing hype. These watches could be mass produced using modern assembly methods and sold for a few hundred bucks apiece and still turn a tidy profit. The reason why they are so pricey is because of the marketing involved. Too many people with more money than brains will pay six figures for a watch because of 'handmade' or 'in-house' movements. This is silly. Homage makers like Alpha, Orient, and Parnis prove that you dont need to spend big money to get this style.
The funny thing is that watch brands like these are the epitome of artisans. They collect pre-orders before the watch exists, make very few and labour tirelessly over the design. You pay for design not materials in a watch like this. To buy one is to be a patron of the arts. Sure, only rich people can be patrons but that's how it has always been. You gotta spend money to make something beautiful and these beauties wouldn't exist if no one was willing to buy them.
Lot of people been guzzling their Hateorade on this comment string. Yes, it's a really friggin expensive watch, yes, maybe some Oil Princes and Russian tycoons will be rocking these, and yes, maybe some of them will hang this heavy machinery on their wrist to compensate for the light machinery hangin off their waists: still, many more will buy because they find it to be an exquisitely beautiful work of art that they themselves as collectors are going to be thrilled to have. Plus, the money th
I love the marketing on these super expensive watches, its very interesting how a company can make a watch simply to promote it as being so awesome you need a graphical 3 minute movie to justify how awesome it is.
@kingmanted too much uncalled hate there..... every custom watch is unique and admirable for it's mechanics....movies are there just because you can't tear apart a 100.000 $ watch to see what's inside of it.
I agree with most of what you are saying but one thing... What you might see as ugly someone else might find beautiful. Personally I feel that rolex makes ugly and boring watches. But that does not stop millions of other people to think of rolex as the pinnacle of watch making beauty. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder thank God. If it were not we would all be driving the same car, wearing the same clothes, dating the same girl, walking the same dog and so on...
For the price, it BETTER be made of tiny nanobots able to shape themselves to my will... Just another "High End" manufacturer catering to rich Russian Oligartchs and anyone else who thinks anything assigned a mega-buck price tag automatically makes it something worth having.
Their watch designs are ugly as sin, mechanically less than impressive, use nothing extraordinary in materials or technology... but still have a premium price tag. FAIL.
Its a nice and artsy watch.. and a cool presentation.. but I couldn't justify 100k on something that is functionally equivalent to a fashion accessory...
bling bling!
I'd actually be scared of getting my arm cut off wearing something like that. My arm is more valuable to me than 100k.. sorry!
artistically interesting, yes. Functionally, FAIL. Brave move accusing the minute and hour hands of being able to be improved on for instant at a glance readability of time. Every watch I've ever seen with unconventional presentation has failed to show the time as readily as a conventional dial.
They really need to create special watches like this. I do like simple nice watches like IWCs and other high-end watches, but I think we(or watch collectors) should look for something special like this one :D
hahahahahaha, it's to leet to be called just a watch. but still, id prefer other things, but if i did have bilions of moneys i wuld buy i redeculously expencive watch just for the 'ness' of it
Complete sexiness... damn that watch is beyond awesome, at $100,000+ anyone who's somebody will get one, only 200 made, just so u know...hurry the hell up people!!
Urwerk is an horologist (watchmaker), while Harry Winston is a jeweler. See their websites and you'll instantly know the difference. H.Winston watches are beautiful enhancements made to movements that were designed by horologists. That said... this particular star movement actually looks pretty different from the Opus V to me. At least, I would _not_ guess it to be the starting point for the H.Winston customization...
Holy smokes! What an amazing looking watch. What a teaser video. Too bad it costs a small fortune to buy one. Spookie you mentioned I-Reel made the song, any idea where I can purchase the music?

This must be the worst advertising I have EVER seen. And what a waste of brain power maing such a piece of crap. What is the goal here? Hey, lets make something really simple totally complicated to the point, that it becomes absolutly unusable!
By the looks of it only one of the three pointer points at the 60 minute sector of the watch the pointer gives the minutes and the hour is atop the pointer over the minutes sector

How the hell do you tell time on that thing? And yet another watch we will never have... Maybe.
ken151979 3 years ago
Soon they will copy it with the same technology and you will get it for about 1000 bugs.
It is a nice watch, but as costfull as a house and the movement about the as complicated like a Lemania 5100.
100.000 bugs are a little bit too much I think (at least for me).
But who cares, I don't have so many money, so I will never buy one.
