    you are also twisting your upper body when you flip. dont do that.

  • as far as i'm concerned you could probably do one, don't look over your shoulder cuz it makes you twist. Don't forget to keep your arms straight cuz in this vid ur elbows bend even as u swing them back so u have no chance of straightening them. And reach when you jump back you'll get farther.

  • cd12117, i can do a backflip a frontflip and a wallflip (all very sloppy but i can do them none the less) i tried all of them w/o a spotter. i had some friends watch me and tell me what i was doing. but other than that i did it all by meself and the worst injury i had was some sore muscels from the movements.

    i love back handsprings, i do them all the time and my gym. but one time i landed funny on my finger and had to wear a cast for 3 weeks and i was put through a lot of needles in my hand

  • also don't swign your arms unless you already can do a back handspring because you will get hurt and also make sure that you don't swing your hips forward because that will give u a really high bhs. Other than that it is a good attempt

  • welll..... Beign a gymnast, I think you should have a spotter for the first couple tries and then once u think u can do it, go for it! Not bad though, just be careful!

  • Okay nice.. Trust me I tried one in the snow not as easy as on the ground.. and try wearing some lighter clothes on your first tries soo much easier.. Try starting with your knees bent it could help and I must say your soo brave for trying that and in the snow too! The first tries you just freaked and twisted in the air.. The other times were really good! I never got that far on my third try! Just get a little more power.. an indoor spot.. and some shorts and you'll be set!

  • Cheese mats are a good way to throw a backhandspring by yourself without usually getting hurt. And usually if you can throw by yourself on that... thats when you can start working on floor.

  • always follow your hands with your eyes till you see the floor. a common mistake is to look over one shoulder out of fear of going backwards which makes you land crooked or not do it at all.your arms locked and you should be springing back into a handstand position, from which you use your shoulders to push yourself back onto your feet... good luck!

  • lol nice try! if you are still trying to get a bhs, i would recommend not to do it in the snow instead find a mat or a trampoline! heres some tips:

    start off with your arms straight out in front of you and suck in your butt and stomach in a "closed" position. then bend your knees back as if you were about to sit on a chair and when you are about to fall thats when you push off with your feet to jump. swing your arms keeping them close to your ears and STRAIGHT.

  • try keeping your arms as straight and strong as possible no matter what, and try mastering backdives into a pool first, basically the exact same thing as starting of a back handspring the only difference is that you dive backward insted of divig back into a handstand

  • Oh I'm not that good I had good friends who were in the school dance team, they're national champs for 9 years running! anyways they did lots of stunts so I know a bit...they taught me some...but I cant do it as well as they can...if you wanna see them...check out GHS or Glendale High School All Male and you'll see a vid or two of them and their stunts...

  • hey buddy, wat u do is u squat, den jump back with ur arms straight up (as if ur diving). ur arms must be locked straight. den arch ur back so u can plant ur hands to da ground. den u push wit ur arms&shoulders as u plant ur hands onto da ground, to land on ur feet.

I went through the exact same thing, I tried my first backflip in the snow -thinking it would be more soft- (which it really isn't) and after standing on top of a 2 ft. snow pile for over 30 minutes, looking backwards, making sure the ground was still there and such, I went straight up and onto my head and then rolled over. Didn't get it on film though :)

So decrease your power.you have enough to get around so dont be afraid to use less power.plus keep your body in a straight line while flipin..and last but not least a back handspring is first a back dive directly on ur hands then spring power to snap back around.

  • your doing really good. when i first started tumbling i was scared like hell to do it, i admire that u tryed... Here's a few tips: sit back like ur in a chair, arch ur back, lock ur arms and push off with ur feet. if u follows tese steps, ull be doing provincial 1 or sumthing in a year or so.

  • Also, Make sure you're jumping back more. Instead of just jumping up, you need to jump back and up at the same time. lol its hard to explain, but i think you get it.

  • Your problem is that you are trying to look at where you are going. Keep your head straight. Find a point to look at and just go back. Also, do notlean forward.Pretend you are sitting in a chair and lean back. The rest is common sense. You'll be fine! Keep working at it and you'll get it.
