Self harm isn't always a call for help, & it's more common than you think. For the most part, it is NOT a prelude to suicide, it is merely a way that some people cope with the pain they feel inside. It is no more self destructive than an alcoholic or a drug addict, just less socially acceptable. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, & I respect their right to have it, but i have more respect for those who attempt to educate their own ignorance before passing judgment. *hugs*

However, I then realised that by making things worse for myself it wasnt doing good, and that I needed help, badly. I got the help I needed and now I look forward to a brighter future.

i really have a problem with people cutting, like it's not necessary. yes people suffer I understand that. But there are "positive" ways to deal with depression. To say that being depressed and being emo are remotely the same thing is not true. Yes, depression is a real medical illness. Yes, some emos have depression. I have met kids with black hair and dark clothes, gotten to know them, and found them to be some of the most happy people I have ever met. They would never even dream of self-mutilation or suicide. I talked to a shrink and he said I had a smart mouth but other than that I was a regular teenage girl. I am not suicidal, and I pity the people who are.
