  • @WatcherofCreation hey thanks

  • I learned so much from this video, and I know you weren't getting massively into it as it is an insanely long piece, but I believe the beginning where you are two drawing and wah wahing is actually 2 draw 3 blow 2 draw, there's a bit of a boucne sound before the 3rd 2 draw hits and I think that's what you're hearing is the switch over. I've learned a lot from this video hopefully I'll make my own video soon of this piece. Keep it up Adam!

  • Oh bless you for posting this. I started playing harmonica a couple years before Cowboy Bebop, but I must admin, I didn't get really serious until I saw the show.

I would gladly pay CASH MONEY to see you do the same treatment for the solo at the end of "Don't Bother None (Long version)". I'm already able to play (as you say) 90% of it. But I'd still love to hear you go through it.

  • Great job man I'm going to learn this for sure tnx..

  • I understand! that's awesome.

  • can this be played in C?

  • how long would it take to learn to play this if i would start to play harmonica now?

  • @Affael I've been playing Clarinet a lot longer than Harmonica (clarinet about 11 years, harmonica closer to 2 weeks). With any instrument, it greatly depends on how much time and effort you put into it. More practice usually translates to better technique. Just be sure to pay attention to what you do and learn from mistakes! It also doesn't hurt to have access to a teacher that knows the instrument well, and can provide one-on-one lessons.

  • This is a great video, and major kudos for the song! Cowboy Bebop is one of the most incredible animated shows ever created, with some of the most memorable music (such as this song!). Spokey Dokey is one of my favorite tracks. There's another harmonica piece played in episode 24, that wasn't included on any of the CD's, that I'm also curious about.

  • @insanentity **Correction, it's near the end of the LONG VERSION of "Don't Bother None." It's a seriously intense harmonica song if I've ever heard one!

  • dude thank you so much!!

  • Hell yeah! Thank you so much for making this!

Brb, getting a harmonica right now.

  • Hey do you think a Lee Oskar Major Diatonic Harmonica from guitar center would be appropiate for learning this?

  • Shame on you for not knowing cowboy bebop! I hope it got you watching a bit of the series. Good stuff. Actually is the reason I picked up the blues harp in the first place

  • for some reason he reminds me of the music version of bill nye the science guy.

  • its "Spockey Dockey", short vowels if you please. "(Captain) Spok(t), the mouse ran yo the "dock"... please pronounce it like that, as that is the correct JP pronunciation and everything else you have done absolutely astonishingly well.

  • @Cloress1: I didn't know that, and I thank you for the correction. If you google "spokey dokey" you'll find that it's in the Urban Dictionary--which I didn't know--and I strongly suspect that folks who use it in the way discussed there (mis)pronounce it as I have, to rhyme with the familiar American phrase "okey dokey."

  • @KudzuRunner You are right, the anime pulls many references from American folk culture for example each episode has a name such as "real folk blues, Sympathy for the Devil" and it is written in Englishand so yeh the Japanese would try and pronounce it Spokey Dokey as in a wheel spoke after all they don't pronounce the that episode "reru foku burusu" or write it in katakana.

  • @Cloress1 I think if that was the case, it'd have been spelled like that.

  • @Cloress1

No, it's the way he said it. It's like "okey dokey" with "sp".

  • THE MAN!!

  • lol was that a....anemay? anim-.....whatever! xD

  • and whats the lesson?

first:"Anime Shows can have GREAT Music!"

sec.:"Dont leave things in the Fridge " ;)

    great vid ^^

  • god bless you man!

everytime i learn a song i feel like i have another super power!

and this song is powerful enough to make my wife cry in a romantic date!

    haha

    peaceout!

  • Great video! The Seatbelts are one of my favorite bands these days, and this song really got me wanting to learn to play the harmonica. Definitely going to buy one at the beginning of the month!

  • Rue-itch-ee-roe Sin-no is the pronunciation. I'm not a big blues ace, but this song gives me chills. Thank you very much for this video because I love Cowboy Bebop and this piece.

  • Believe it or not I forgot you did a lesson on this. About a month ago I started watching the show, nothing to do with your post; I can't remember why I decided to watch this show.

Anyway, I started downloading the soundtrack and instantly recognized the song name as a lesson you did and here it is!

Cowboy Bebop has a lot of jazz and blues music within. I think the episode called Sympathy for the devil is about a guy who doesn't age and plays harmonica :D (of course he's a bounty).

  • @hessonr well done :D

  • Eargasms

  • That's my new favourite word!!!

  • The Marine Band harmonica is key "D major" o the "Db major"???

    Please I want that harmonica!!!!

  • D major

  • wuoa...man really thank you. it's works... specially the tong advice.... you are amazing

  • I'm gonna grab a 6 pack and lock myself in the garage and master this piece tomorrow!

  • dude, thank you sooo much! I'm so glad you took the time to make this video Adam. That was I who called it to your attention, I'm very greatful. Your the man, seriously!

    hahaha

    take care

    The Seatbelts - Spokey Dokey"

  • im so happy seeing people see how badass cowboy bebop is music and show wise

  • Ruichiro dosen'y have as good tone as Adam. (In My opinion)

  • i like how u make ur videos

  • so i wouldnt be able to play this song at all on a 10 hole in c?

  • nope, you need a D harp, I'm looking for one but even on internet they are hard to find

  • not really...

  • really go into your random guitar shop their like 30 bucks special 20s though

  • you can, it just won't be in prefect pitch, but you can and it will sound like the song

  • Play it third position???? Omg id love too see someone try.

  • I love this song. And Cowboy Bebop is my favorite series ever! The Seatbelts are an awesome band.

  • truly amazing...thankyou

  • thanks for this

  • awesome man kudos!

  • NAH MAN THAT WAS AN ANY..A...ANNIE-MAY? xD

Awesome vid man, that part just made me rofl though =]

  • please do the chorus, thanks

  • is there any way you could do this over the chorus? i cant figure it out

  • You're so cool. lol

  • Wow, you break it down smooth.

  • This is one of my favorite harp songs of all time. Bebop is such a good show and the soundtrack is unstoppable! Adam I think it's awesome that you're branching out and learning (and teaching) something totally new - thanks!

  • ummm..... I guess i wasnt paing attention to that part. XD sry.

  • Don't I say that I'm using a D harp?

  • @KudzuRunner Are you using a minor or major diatonic harp?, I'm a little new to learning

  • what key is this in???

  • There is also another version of this song that comes with the 3 disk cowboy bebop soundtrack. The title is called Spokey Dorkey (atternate take) on the album. Might be worth checking out.

  • pro^^

    keep it coming

    *eagar harmonican* aha

  • this is awesome. i didn't think something like this would pop up when i searched the song!

  • hi adam

i want to know what is your website!!

    i appreciate your help

    bye

  • It's Modern Blues Harmonica. Just put those words into google.

  • still dont get it but im bad at harmonica.intresting anyway.

  • OMG Thankyou so much i was the one who asked you about this song. THAK YOU SO MUCH ADAM!!....thank you so much for answering my message and makeing the lesson like i asked thank you so much adam. sry i cant stop thanking you but thanks a million Adam

    -Adam summitt

  • That's right: you are indeed the person who asked. I recognize your handle. It was a success, as you can see. Many people love this song. My feeble attempts at decoding it made that clear. I'll try to do a couple more videos soon.

  • hey thanks adam i think you can get a handel on the song you just got frusterated is all and from what i herd you started getting really close you just had problems with one part of it but i think from what i was hearing that you could get it theres just one part that you where a little off i think when hes in the wah wahs he bends the note or changes the note really maby a toung block but can you make a not lower with a toung block? anyway but you where close and after you get.......

  • Past the fast part, im sure it will be easy for you. thanks again Adam and im looking foward to your next videos on this bit

    -Adam Summitt

  • I have the tabs.

  • There's a long and detailed tab available through a quick Google search and/or YouTube search. I've seen it; I don't like it. Like the great majority of tabs, it's useless unless you've actually got the recording right there with you. It doesn't offer any legible time-count for the licks it represents. But perhaps a few people will find it more useful than I do, and I encourage folks to search it out.

  • very good excelente soy aficionado a la armonica sigue asi.

  • Thanks a lot, man. I learned so much just from looking at this 6-minute video. I'll check out your website.

  • good lesson...but i want the slide guitar licks lol

  • Hello Adam. Thanks, you blew off some serious issues I had about playing the first part.

But you allow me to make a little critic, look like you forgot the 4 blow, after the couple of tongu blocking in the 2 hole, at the very firsts seconds (0:06 of the song).

    I've got the feeling to hear -2 -2 -2...-2 -2 -2 +4 -2 -2 -2 +4 (with tongue works), am I hallucinating?

Otherwise, I knew this song was going to make you the envy of trying to playing it, it was just a matter of time!

    It's 10 years old..

  • Spokey Dokey is what inspired me to play Harp. Thanks for the amazing video! :D

  • Thank you ^_____^

  • I must confess I'm a blues harp fan because of Cowboy Bebop. Then again, I must confess these are the only blues harp featuring CDs I got. Now that I've discovered your video lessons I'm surely going to widen my musical culture but still it's incredible how an anime could be so incisive in bringing a taste for good music to us young people.

I wish to thank the whole CB project staff for making such things possible.

Of course, thank you Adam for teaching us the way we like it!

  • I love this thanks for your videos no joke i've learned so much from your videos keep it up!!!

  • Hey adam, nice video thank you very much, my favorite harmonica tune is "Pocket Rocket" by the Fabulous Thunderbirds, any chance of covering that or part there of in a future tutorial, it always gives me goosebumps....

    Cheers

    Brett

  • I gotta check that tune out.

  • "Pocket Rocket" is Kim Wilson at his best. I'll make a note of that. You've got good taste.

  • !!! This song made me want to learn to play the harmonica!

  • Me too^^

  • Adam,

American harp player here living in Japan. Correct way to say Japanese harp players name in Reeeuuuueeeeechiroooo-san.

Just trying to help. Love your videos over here.

  • Cowboy bebop is what got me into blues harp! This piece inspired me so much also please look up Digging My Potato on youtube! Just search that it is the first result and an amazing solo. If you could one day break that one down I would forever be thankful to you.

Anyways man, I hope you read this...and thanks a lot for all your helpful videos. I'm gonna get back into harp!

  • Hmm..ive heard Taylor Hicks do somewhat the same lick in a solo as the first lick of the first part of Digging My Potato from Cowboy Bebop..

  • Great video, can't wait for the rest of the song Adam! would love to see diggin' my potato next, even if it's a quick video :P -- you started the series, might as well finish it eH?

  • that opening two note is the same opening lick to the song pretty baby. The 3draw-2draw (without a roll to the 1). I think the song pretty baby is in on an A harp.

  • Thanks Adam, for doing this!

Btw first you say "Ryu" and then "Ichiro"(Seatlle Mariners) and put them together "Ryuichiro" his familyname is "Senoh" (the opposite of Say Yes")

  • There is usually some great harp playing in cartoons and anime..... there is also another great harp song from the series thats nice and slow too played on a Db harp i think

  • if its diggin my potato i think its a Eb not 100% shure tho, is it the one with the bongo drums?

  • you proncounce his name fine "ruu ee chi ro, seh no" but in japanese the r's are not really pronuced as r's but a mixture of r and l rluu,

Thanks for doin this, its the song that made me pick up the harmonica, another one he did is called diggin my potato

  • sweet stuff

  • I love The SeatBelts, and Cowboy Bepop and HArp...this is the best video.....ever

  • Hey Adam, this is great! I love this song, I wasn't expecting you to do a clip on a piece from cowboy beebop soundtrack (great soundtrack, great cartoon too)... Thanks a lot. 5 stars

  • Very cool stuff. Now I'm gonna have to check out this guy's stuff.

  • Adam, it´s awesone that you decided to look upon this song. You know, this song "alone" was the reason why many young harp players decided to pick a harmonica. It´so much important for the younger generation.

Beleiveve me, this will make you very, very appreciated by the young crowd. Me included of course.

Cheers and, Kuddoz!!! (and five stars of course)

  • I didn't realize that it was that important to younger players, but I'm delighted to know that. I've worked up a second video on the song but wasn't sure if I'd continue past that. Now I think I will.

  • Yep. The series is what got me to pick up the harp originally.

  • yep^^ i'm learning right now, lol

  • This is the song that made me want to play harp, and I've seen a few people online say the same thing.

  • I can't believe you are doing a video on this, this is so awesome

  • Always great to see you here on youtube!

Thanks for more insight on the blues.

  • Intresting stuff!
