Depresing music. Terrible quality of the image. Nowadays Cinema must be a desert to keep us searching for new cinematographic sensations in old movies!
@love233 - nowadays cinema i s a desert, barren as hell itself. or would you rather watch unMysterious films like "twlight saga: new moon" "2012" "transformers: the revenge of the fallen"? theres a wellspring of bad blockbusters to choose from, and foreign films aint classic like they used to b- they r also v e r y influenced by todays shitty hollywood.calling most recent foreign films"art"is just relatively speaking compared to todays sold-out hollywood.who r todays bergmans, fellinis, kurosawas?
I agree with you. Movies today have more to the special effects than to the art of acting itself. But there are always old and hidden jewels: for instance I am downloading - Riddle of the Sands (with Michael York) and russian movie Vij of 1967. Better than like you said 2012 or New Moon. Thank you.
@love233 - i saw "viy.' or 'vij.' its not scary, and i had a problem with the acting in it, it has a Story in which the power of religious faith is the way to fight off evil spirits, and to show an inner struggle of faith, strong acting is needed. however, there is a certain scene about the witching hour when spirits come out to play which has excellent and original makeup effects by russian fantasy genius, aleksandr ptushko. (u should see his films) the titular demon, viy, looks hokey, though.
@love233 - the musics not depressing but doesnt fit a horror film. and yes the image quality is weak. the image quality of "the man who laughs" and "the golem" is much better. also i hate the titles on flashing white bkgrnd. i am waiting for the point where scapinelli stands with his umbrella in a Strange forward-leaning pose.
I love this movie. Wish Kino or some other outfit would give it the restoration it deserves - starting with a better soundtrack. A DVD with with this version and the original w/Paul Wegener would be great.
Did you know that one of the extras in this opening scene was Horst Wessel? Yikes.
no dueling scars on Veidt -- not high enuf in society?

wish they hadn't used such recognizable music - unknown would have been so much better!!
