@blinky500 I do read i see where it says "My initial goal was to make a Samurai Jack inspired movie, but in the silent genre" I just thought it would be better with sound cuz i wanna hear the sword hits.
And i know u said the fights could have used some fine tuning i was just agreeing with you haha
If you fast forwarded it JSUT a smidge, ti would be a lot more gripping, but i understand the caution that goes with fighting with REAL katanas that discourage quick movements sfor safety reasons. All in all Great vid, but still a fast forwarded version would rule the day...
I love these kind of fanmade movies, even though I think they lack in terms of choreography (the fight scenes are not that great compared with all the other technical aspects).
Once they get it right - it's going to become magical.
Great job, I love the visuals, The action is cutty but still very good, I like the silence, it provides a chance to take in the score and absorb the scene.
Wow, I really like this. It's very well done, I think, and of course because I'm a fan of Samurai Jack myself, that makes it even better. We're all aware that some fine tuning is wanted but it's brilliantly done otherwise. You have true talent, my friend.
The fight scenes could have used some better tuning just with timing and speed. I dont know, or at least can not tell what type of editing system you were using but I will say this, if you break down your cuts and use the 'speed time' effect properly. (try 25 to around 50 as the speed setting) The whole point of the attack sequences are to make the fight look dangerous, instead what we saw was the obvious use of caution with a deadly weapon.
I saw what you were doing here. Personally, I thought your strengths at this time were how you were testing the limits of your frame. There are some fantastic compositions. It isn't Kurosawa...but, hell, what is anymore? Thanks for taking the time to put this one out. I'm thinking your stuff may soon become a favorite of my search for great fan films.
Well done for early work, and I especially enjoyed the last shot starting at 5:22. Only out of curiosity, have you ever considered a sequel, or even a remake?
I'm sorry, but I have a concept for a sequel, The Samurai encounters a group of rogue samurai that want to kill The Samurai because he killed one of their members with no choice.
what you needed in the fightscenes were speed and power, you could tell the actors were pulling there punches and that is what ruined it for me, but technically it was very profcient. Also I could tell yuou were using the cheap aluminum blades so you couldn't go all out because they damage very easily.
my suggestion is to use people who have some form of stunt training, people who aren't afraid of going all out and yet know how to pull their punches in a convincing way.
Good soundtrack, and the fella in black clearly has some acrobatic talent, but I do agree. The fight could've been alittle more crisp, just in terms of reaction times and what not. Overall, it's some great stuff. 4/5.
This would be way better with sound and if you choreographed it better

Fairly enjoyable, but the fighting seemed too slow and unreal. The was barely any killer intent from the characters. But good for early work.

I would reccomend just looking up "fight choreography" in youtube. You will see plenty of examples of what I'm talking about.

It was enjoyable to watch. I do agree about the fight scenes though, but they were still decent. Looking forward to Elektra.
