It is one of their most technically intuitive songs, and every time they play it live they make it ten times better.

It is by far one of my favorite songs by them, and am always impressed with the guitar and bass in it no matter live or recorded.

In Scar Tissue Anthony writes that the inspiration for this song was the death of his friend Gloria who was the inspiration for the song Give It Away and shaped a great deal of his perspective on life with her actions and ideas. Probably a very poignant song for him to sing live.

yup, they did a concert in order to raise money for her but she was too close to dying so they took her to the venice beach and bought her a house where she died. it was pretty much the end of the last chapter of his book. incredible autobiography...

it's not ironic in any way... he bought her the house on venice beach because she had lived in venice but not near the ocean and she had terminal cancer, so he wanted to let her die in peace. they spent a lot of time in her new house with her until she passed not long after.
