  • Those ones towards the end sound SO 70's! I love it! LOL

  • evanescence - oceans

  • Geddy Lee from Rush loves this instument live. It allows him to play the synth at the same time as bass.

    very cool!

  • it sounds a lot like my minimoog model D

  • 03:54 - 05:55 !!!!!!!!!!

  • ES UN PEDAL?? POR QUE LO TOCA CON LAS MANOS??

  • I would have totally pee'd my pants if I had heard this when I was 15!

  • "You take me to the Top." a bassist in addtion to this thing for two basses in the "Loverboy" song. Yesser Rick wakemen probably invented the thing. Used in 1980's sci-fi alot. 2:53 Dark Star 1 hyperdrive.

  • Is this what Newton Faulkner uses?

  • wow. vintage shit

  • Is this effect was used in the begining of The Police "Don`t stand so close"?

  • @adam1984pl

    yes

  • @retrosound72 Is that oscillator sync at 5:54?

  • @RogueRotting360 no sync! but the 2 VCOs are in phase.

  • @retrosound72 Ah! It's hard to tell the difference.

  • Comment removed

  • I would love to know if anyone makes something like this that isn't huge or REALLY expensive (Moogs, I'm looking at you). Something I can use to trigger programmed bass tones by foot while I play guitar. Anyone?

  • @managainstcatfish

Roland PK midi bass pedal + Waldorf Pulse

  • @retrosound72 Thanx!!

  • @managainstcatfish

Roland PK midi bass pedal + Arturia Analog Factory (PC app)

  • @managainstcatfish

Roland PK midi bass pedal + Arturia Analog Factory (PC app). You´ll need a midi usb interface with your PC. Quite cheap and effective! Happy grooves...

  • @managainstcatfish

Roland PK midi bass pedal + Arturia Analog Factory (PC app). You´ll need a midi usb interface with your PC. Might be a tad bit cheaper than a Waldorf Pulse (which is quite amazing).Happy grooves...

  • @managainstcatfish

Try a set of Roland PK-5 MIDI pedals with a Roland GAIA SH-01 Synth (killer Moog Taurus/Bass/Tuba sounds plus hundreds of other sounds). Not that expensive.

  • where did yu find this thing and how much do these things go for??

  • @rollipolioli You can find these on eBay or Guitar Center Used Gear for $2000.

And yes, I said two thousand dollars.

  • @puppetmetal Wow! About as much as a used Wurlitzer, Fender Rhodes, or TR-808! I had no idea it was up there in the "revered" category of synth instruments like that! LOL :)

  • Pure filter power...

  • how do you pug your bass into the synthesizer?

  • damn that thing is a dinosaur, cool though

  • Damn.. This sounds awesome.

Would love to have one of these.

  • At 2:46 it seems a drugster motorbike!!! XD

  • radiohead perfection.. just change that beat :)

    cool as man.

  • Cool.

    This is ääääääähhhh Bass-Keyboard.

  • Nice instrument for a sci-fi horror movie.

    To make the aliens' voices.

  • Sounds like Huey Lewis

  • Yesterday, I saw Pallas live, a fantastic prog band. The bassist had one of these bad boys, and honestly, the sound was just...incredible. It literally shook the room.

  • troy uses this on Crack the Skye

  • sounds like cure

  • why does this old peace of tech sound so freaking good?

  • what the heck? how does this hook up to everything? can you use it like a guitar effects pedal?

  • this is a monophonic analog synth like the Minimoog but played by the foot or here by hand ;)

  • well yngwie j malmsteen has one of these on his pedal board and i think he uses it along side his guitar sound

  • @retrosound72 so basically its plugged into an amp and played like a keyboard

  • Getty? It's Geddy

  • Surely he means John-Paul Getty, who played the spoons and banjo in Led Zeppelin?

  • @VickersDoorter surely he means geddy lee, bassist/vocalist of rush

  • Doh! I know he meant Geddy Lee of Rush. I was injecting a little wry amusement into the thread. Well, failing clearly.... Do feel free though to correct me as to any misalignment of the Led Zeppelin line-up, or indeed, a deceased wealthy philanthropist having contributed to their musical line-up! Yours sincerely, Vickers Doorter.

  • @VickersDoorter Lol i shoud have known by spoons and banjo... TBH i make hip hop music but have great appreciation for any good music. Prog-rock is my shit!

  • Genesis? Ever heard of Chris Squire or Getty Lee? The that's who these were made for.

  • Between :30 and 1:00, did I hear the opening to "Wild Weekend"?

  • Why in all these videos, are these people using their hands for a device that was obviously designed to be used with feet? You'd think there would be some organist somewhere who would take real advantage of it!

  • what is the problem?

This is only a sound demo and in my other taurus vids I play most it with my feet.

    check:

Steve Hackett - Clocks or Phil Collins - I can`t take it anymore :)

  • @skubadhaiver

Check out The Cure - Cold (Studio Davour)

They use the Taurus.. and it sounds awesome.

  • Is this still available to purchase?? If so, how much?

  • They have a remake of it out now. It is in the 1500 plus range.

  • -MOOG = MIRACLE!!!. 5*****

  • such a base.. amezing

  • Such a fat sound. Genesis was big on these live in the old days. You'd feel it in your scrotum at certain points. I'm also hearing Human League's 'Seconds'.

  • Both Daryl and Mike used the taurus extensively even on the last tour. Check out the "live in Rome DVD" and escpecially the tracks Ripples and the medley at the end of Cage.

  • thats a funny old toy :P

it's meant to played by the feet am I right ?

    awesome!

  • Nice mastur-Bass-tion

  • @nexusdawn great phrase "mastur-bass-tion!

  • sounds more like dub step :D

  • He's playing it with his hands, like John Hackett used to do live for his brother, Steve Hackett. Early Genesis and Rush (1970's)also used these alot. I'm not sure alot of people realize that both Geddy and Alex used these in Rush. Though I've read (some years ago) where Geddy said they only use them to trigger midi events anymore.

  • and check Phil Collins - I Don't Care Anymore,

    and The Police

  • @mabrion

They do use them a lot to trigger events like the piano slide at the end of the spirit of radio, but they also play them like in Xanadu

  • are you going to get the new Taurus? the Taurus III?

  • pero aslo con los pies wey

  • I'll name that tune in one !!

  • What does those things on the left and right do? The foot slider things

  • loudness and filter control

  • Neato! Combine this with a minimoog and another set of keys and you've got yourself an analog organ! (lol)

  • Speechless...

  • 2:50 i was WTF??? sounds sick!!!!

  • I desperately wish someone who doesn't realise the value of this would sell one to me for peanuts :) The sounds are intense, and I especially love the 'untypical taurus sounds' - they remind me of my old Commodore 64!

  • i can do that on my bass guitar

  • SICK THANG!

  • Killer

  • la zorra misma, increibleee!!

  • MY EYES NEVER SEEN BETTER INSTRUMENT!! this sound kicks ears...

  • Awesome

  • I loved mine. Can't believe I sold them.

  • boar mein haus bebt !

  • looks like your wanking it off...only joking good video, amazing instrument

  • I got these after years of looking for a deal on ebay. Love the Variable stuff. Now I have an idea of how to use it. I would love to see how you have the settings more. Maybe have the camera from above more. Good job.

  • someone do jump by van halen with this please!

  • The chord melodies of that song will be quiet hard to play because it's monophonic synth.

  • well, you wouldn't use this to play the melody, you hold a C note and play a keyboard along with it. listen to the song, you'll hear that really low C chord.

  • Those are freakin awesome...Those were used on the beginning of Motley Crue's 'Shout at the Devil' album....

  • such a COOL instrument

  • WOW! I just listened to that on my headphones and HOLY SHIT i want one! what are the lowest and highest notes the Taurus can produce? thats crazy man...

  • Hey, how come you did not use the black boxes to either side of the control panel? is that for vabrato?

  • loudness and filter cutoff

  • maybe you should play it with your feet...? ;-)

  • lol

  • Do the oscilators phase in and out on all the models or is it the patch programming ?

  • straight black hole heavy!

  • Can the unit on top of the pedals be detached so that you can play it with your feet and adjust the controls with your hands?

  • Already commented ages ago but just listened to it again through my headphones. Phat is not the word to describe it, more like interplanetary collision :P

  • This reminds me of the music from the game Doom.

  • those are fun, too bad they are like $3000

    :P

  • ufff impresionante muchassss horas de diversion

    joder con Glide Maximun

  • exelent work, and nice stuff

  • awesome!

  • I can understand why Rush would want this, its amazing !

  • when i saw the picture of the video i thought in RUSH too

  • Cool, I can actually invision Blue Man Group playing it with their fists also. :-)

  • I have never seen this Synthesizer before. There is a lot to Bob Moog that I didnt know until I read one of his books. You all should read all about the history of Bob Moog (The man who created moog synthesizers.) This song is dark and I cant believe how the Taurus looks. there are pedals. that means you can use it as a foot bass pedal and play another synthesizer on top as a main.

Also Moog has been making great synthesizer since the 1970s. Kudos Moog!

  • the fattest bass ever...

used by Genesis, Rush, Asia, U2, The Police Marillion and me ;)

  • Wow, now I'll REALLY be able to learn how to use the Variable setting. The manual doesn't help at all comparred to this video. I've just been using the Taurus setting only, but now I'll have to try some of the stuff you did and see if I can reproduce it. THANKS..!!!

  • where could i find one of these and for how much???

  • sometimes on ebay

    2000-3000 $

  • are they rare to find??

  • yes,

you can find the taurus sometimes on ebay

  • i just found one but it is $ 1,595

  • can i find one new, and not an second hand?

  • moog is reissuing their taurus pedals for a limited time near the end of 2009. i really want one, but 1,995 is steep.

then again so is all moog. totally worth it though.

  • Man I want one of those- sucks they cost an arm and a leg

  • sounds like the Boards of Canada

  • SWEEEET

  • This is awesome. Too bad I can't find one anywhere, I want one so goddamn bad.

  • eu prefiro os sintetizadores analógicos do que os digitais

os digitais também sao bons mas os analógicos também sao de excelente qualidade sonora

  • guap esta bueno

  • simply amazing and beautiful...

Santa i've been a good boy...

  • thanks :)

  • The Taurus sound will always be badass.

  • THats the Best Taurus Video I've seen yet.

    Rhythmicons

  • thanks a lot :)

  • That was AWESOME

  • thanks

  • AB FAB!

  • Holy shit I jst stumbled across this link looking for a bass linne to POlice's 'SOS'. How fucking neat I love these things. I'm still trying to get a set also . lol..

  • Amazing instrument. Love the BOOM graphic.

  • do the 2112 intro! haha

  • fantastic :)

  • Cool. Are you supposed to use your feet on that synth? Cool

  • Oh yeah, great demo

  • thanks :)

  • I forgot that they have aftertouch. Pretty cool. I wanted a set of these for years, never got my hands on them.

  • Perhaps someday when I have a few thousand dollars sitting around, I'll snag one off eBay. Until then, I have video samples like this!

  • thanks for watching :)

  • wait, um doesnt pj harvey use one of these?

  • PHAT

  • Kraftwerk must have had one of these too. And possibly Dick Van Dyke.

But in all honesty, I wish I had one.

  • Now I see why the Taurus preset was the preferred setting among its users during the height of its popularity back in the 70s

  • God's basses

  • I saw a guy playing this in phil collins' band. He did it like this

gentleman. I really cool. It can be played as a percussive sound, too.

  • Great for replacing the bass pedals from my hammond ;)

  • I've subscribed to you for a while now and if im a bit overworked, stressed or whatever i just check out your vids and im in analogue heaven = )

Keep it up, ur a legend and thanks for making all of these wonderful instruments available to experience. Also i love the style you play, very moody and soooooo retro, reminds me of old John Carpenter movies.

  • thank you for your kind words :)

    I love John Carpenter`s soundtracks...

  • Yngwie Malmsteen used to solo over one of these until the early 90's I think.

  • In the late 80's you can see him using

it in the rising force concert recorded

in Japan. Alex Lifeson of Rush is where I first heared it being most distinctively

used. Take a listen to Limelight off of

    moving pictures album

    -- peace.

  • I saw Rush on the Moving Pctures tour... Geddy Lee played the bass pedals, not Lifeson. ;)

  • Uhh he played them too. Ever see them do Xanadu, or La Villa, and Chemistry . He played the bass pedals on all those. Look for a clip from their April 9, 1983 show if you don't believe me.

  • He used it the same way Yngwie did: to fatten and alter his tone for certain parts.

It was used pretty sparingly. It was when they began to use keyboards more Alex wanted to emulate more of that tone so he adapted the taurus pedal -- i read that in an interview sometime back.

  • but your supposed to play it with you feet :-)

I suppose its easier said than done, as an organist I will let you off: playing anything with you feet takes some practice. Work at it though and free up those hands.

    awesome demo, still. Kudos.

  • thanks

fast sequencer sounds can I play better with my hands...

  • I want this so bad.

  • I cannot even describe how lucky you are to have this. DAMN!

  • I looked also for many years for it...

  • Bad ass. Nice playing skills as well

  • really nice fat bass sounds i really liek the tom sawyer preset and the others sounded great as well

  • thank you

  • dude you have the best equpment in the galaxy

  • thanks :)

  • Awesome piece of equipment!! Are these hard to get? Wish I had one.

  • thanks

unfortunately are the taurus bass pedals hard to find. were not built for much piece of it. to find sometimes on ebay

  • awesome base!

  • thanks

  • I've been listening to this with headphones on, and the sound is really interesting. Boom indeed.

  • thank you

  • intresting instrument music and film

  • thanks for watching and your comment

  • Superb stuff!

  • thanks :)

  • who needs a Moog !!, THIS WILL DO

  • It is a moog ! :D

  • you must be able to travel back in time to get al the gear you get !! brill this
