Try a set of Roland PK-5 MIDI pedals with a Roland GAIA SH-01 Synth (killer Moog Taurus/Bass/Tuba sounds plus hundreds of other sounds). Not that expensive.
@puppetmetal Wow! About as much as a used Wurlitzer, Fender Rhodes, or TR-808! I had no idea it was up there in the "revered" category of synth instruments like that! LOL :)
Yesterday, I saw Pallas live, a fantastic prog band. The bassist had one of these bad boys, and honestly, the sound was just...incredible. It literally shook the room.
Doh! I know he meant Geddy Lee of Rush. I was injecting a little wry amusement into the thread. Well, failing clearly.... Do feel free though to correct me as to any misalignment of the Led Zeppelin line-up, or indeed, a deceased wealthy philanthropist having contributed to their musical line-up! Yours sincerely, Vickers Doorter.
@VickersDoorter Lol i shoud have known by spoons and banjo... TBH i make hip hop music but have great appreciation for any good music. Prog-rock is my shit!
Why in all these videos, are these people using their hands for a device that was obviously designed to be used with feet? You'd think there would be some organist somewhere who would take real advantage of it!
Such a fat sound. Genesis was big on these live in the old days. You'd feel it in your scrotum at certain points. I'm also hearing Human League's 'Seconds'.
Both Daryl and Mike used the taurus extensively even on the last tour. Check out the "live in Rome DVD" and escpecially the tracks Ripples and the medley at the end of Cage.
He's playing it with his hands, like John Hackett used to do live for his brother, Steve Hackett. Early Genesis and Rush (1970's)also used these alot. I'm not sure alot of people realize that both Geddy and Alex used these in Rush. Though I've read (some years ago) where Geddy said they only use them to trigger midi events anymore.
I desperately wish someone who doesn't realise the value of this would sell one to me for peanuts :) The sounds are intense, and I especially love the 'untypical taurus sounds' - they remind me of my old Commodore 64!
I got these after years of looking for a deal on ebay. Love the Variable stuff. Now I have an idea of how to use it. I would love to see how you have the settings more. Maybe have the camera from above more. Good job.
well, you wouldn't use this to play the melody, you hold a C note and play a keyboard along with it. listen to the song, you'll hear that really low C chord.
In den höheren Tonlagen klingt der Taurus in der tat sehr nach Minimoog, allerdings kommt der Mini nicht annähernd an das extrem tiefe Soundfundament des Taurus heran.
WOW! I just listened to that on my headphones and HOLY SHIT i want one! what are the lowest and highest notes the Taurus can produce? thats crazy man...
Already commented ages ago but just listened to it again through my headphones. Phat is not the word to describe it, more like interplanetary collision :P
I have never seen this Synthesizer before. There is a lot to Bob Moog that I didnt know until I read one of his books. You all should read all about the history of Bob Moog (The man who created moog synthesizers.) This song is dark and I cant believe how the Taurus looks. there are pedals. that means you can use it as a foot bass pedal and play another synthesizer on top as a main.
Also Moog has been making great synthesizer since the 1970s. Kudos Moog!
Wow, now I'll REALLY be able to learn how to use the Variable setting. The manual doesn't help at all comparred to this video. I've just been using the Taurus setting only, but now I'll have to try some of the stuff you did and see if I can reproduce it. THANKS..!!!
