The snare bed is where the snaryness comes from. If you know how snare beds work, you'll realise, you can't put all kinds of snare wires on any drum. Wide snares are useless on narrow snare beds. The way i choose a snare drum, is by it's snare bed first, then what the shell is made of. The snare bed provides all of the snare drum's characteristics aside from the material.
