From a drummer's perspective, he wasn't trying to upstage the band. His fills/beat changes were so perfectly in time and fit to the song; he's clearly grown up playing that song, and frankly just has the skills to play it better than Lars.

Playing slow as a fast drummer shouldn't be hard, but it's completely different in sense that spending so much time playing fast tempos and filling up every gap of every song has a negative impact when you try to play slow tempos. That's because you tend to fill every gap like you're used to. I'm a drummer for almost a year but that's the way I feel when I go from faster songs to really slow ones.

yeah well they just cant handle the way that joey plays...cause they are used to listen metallica with lars...the point is that slipknot with metallica are different kind of style music..joey is used to play more in double bass so thats what he did with metallica too he played the songs with his style thats why they sound a bit different if he had time to practice them they'd be better(For the metallica fans) cause for us(slipknot fans) he is awsome even in these songs :)

so its true he hasnt much time to get in form for metallica but if you just listen to the playing you will hear that he didnt get it right. on the beginning he gets out of time an, oh man i know a lot of people will hate me when i say this but joey can never do that shit lars do with this feeling. lars is just the perfect drummer for metallica!

I am sure they are about the same. Its all about the kind of music you play, and how much you work on it. I like Joey better then Lars, not saying hes better then Lars. All tho Lars could add a little more bass, and mix thing up a little more. I've had talked about this every time I see my old friend, who played guitar for me for five years. Bottom line Lars just needs to mix it up and add more kick. Tried of that same old boom klack boom klack 4/4.

better than lars... yeh right, all he knows is complexity, lars nails the heavy accentuated beat much better, makes for a better paced tune. double bass isnt everything! he was a good fill in though, faithful enough to the original, but he adds some good bits..
