isn't kosoto gake done by hooking behind the knee and just offbalancing the oponent until he falls ? In MMA you see it a lot done from a body lock. This is different, the mechanics are more like a kneebar, similar to a jujitsu sweep.

well, that technique is legal in judo =D

it is usually called kosote gake (outer hook)

ouchi gari is probably legal as it does not threaten harmful injury and can be counter easily. and beside, it emphases more of the upper body rather than just tripping.

this technique is illegal because your knee touches the ground before the opponent's, which would make you lose the point. The only exception to this rule is "da dehe", or the inner trip (o uchi gari) in which it is ok for your knee to touch the ground, even if the move is not successful. I'm not sure why the rule is like this.

xiao dehele is another exception to the rule. Shuai Jiao has this rule as in Qing Dynasty the annual competition is with Mongol Boke and in Qing Boke any part of body touching the ground other than two feet means losing the game.

you're right, actually da dehe is the one where you remain standing, and xiao dehe is the kneeling one.

In da dehele you either remain standing (2 pts) or have control and fall on top of your opponent (1 pt). In xiao dehele you kneel first and remain in stable position (2 pts) or unstable position (1 pt).
